    Real Madrid draw Borussia Dortmund in UEFA Champions League

    Arsenal to meet PSG, Basel

    Defending champions, Real Madrid, will play Germany’s Borussia Dortmund in this season UEFA Champions League group stage.

    In the draw for the world’s most prestigious clubs’ competition held Thursday in Monaco, France, the Spanish side will also square up with Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon and Poland’s Legia Warsaw in Group F.

    English Premier League club, Arsenal will play in Group A alongside French champions PSG, Swiss giants FC Basel and FC Ludogorets of Bulgaria.

    Five time winners Barcelona will confront another EPL side Manchester City, Germany’s Borussia Monchengladbach and perennial Scottish champions Scotland in Group C.

    Last season’s surprise English league champions, Leicester City, play Portuguese giants FC Porto, Belgium’s Club Brugge and FC Copenhagen of Denmark in Group G.

    The group stage runs from September to December.

    The pairings:

      Barcelona completes signing of Jasper Cillessen

    FC Barcelona has completed the signing of Dutch shoot-stopper, Jasper Cillessen from Ajax  Amsterdam FC on a five-year contract.

    Barca agreed with the transfer fee of £13 million and to pay £2 million in variables with the buyout clause set at £60 million.

    The 27 year old Dutch goalkeeper arrived in Barcelona this morning and after taking a medical examination, he signed his new contract in private and will be officially unveiled to the club tomorrow (Friday).

    American Cable News Network (CNN), has announced the demise of its Senior producer, Matt Null and a former Fox News producer, who died on Monday while on vacation with friends in Barcelona.

    The CNN correspondent and anchor, Christine Romans in a report said: “It is with a heavy heart that we report tragic news of one of our own this morning,” holding back tears.

    “He is literally the voice in our head every morning. When terrible things happen around the world, he is the one who brings it to you with calm and fairness,” she added. “He is someone who really made a difference in the world through his job.”

    Before joining the CNN team, Null worked as a producer for Fox News Channel’s “On the Record With Greta Van Susteren,” beginning in 2012.

    As at the time of filing this report, a cause of death has not been revealed.

    Varsity graduate killed by cultist in Imo

    The police in Imo state have confirmed the identity of a fresh graduate of Imo state University, Owerri (IMSU), who was murdered by fleeing gunmen on Tuesday.

    The police confirmed his identity to be Obrin Ibekwe, a newly graduated student who was doing his clearance in preparation for the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

    Ibekwe was found dead in a gutter at the back gate area of the University around 2:5pm Tuesday.

    The police who said that they have condoned off the area, have evacuated his lifeless body to the morgue, while investigation has been launched to ascertain the reason for the killing.

    The Nation Charity Match; Editorial/Production department wins

    As Vintage Press Limited, owners of The Nation Newspapers, is counting down to its 10th year anniversary, a charity match was played, between the Finance/admin department and the editorial/production unit on Saturday.

    The match which was held at the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi, ended in 2-1 victory in favour of the editorial department.

    The contest witnessed a large turnout of staff and their families despite the heavy downpour.

    The trophy was later presented to the editorial team captain by match officials and a representative of the company management team.
