Why it is difficult to make conscious music – Dayo Adeneye

Veteran music executive, Dayo Adeneye aka D1, has stated that making conscious music is difficult because of the level of moral decay in this generation.

Speaking in the latest episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, D1 said conscious music would not be commercially successful in today’s world.

He said: “Right now, the world is not ready to listen to anything conscious. Is it this generation that doesn’t know their gender that you want to preach conscious lyrics to?

D1 said most ladies nowadays only bring their bodies to the table when it comes to relationships which makes men not see any value in them beyond sex.

  • Dayo Adeneye set to return to first love after failing at Assembly elections

THESE are certainly not good times for flamboyant-lifestyle celebrity-turned-politician.

The former Primetime radio/TV programme host, Dayo Adeneye, fondly called D-1, made an in-road into the corridors of power in Ogun State.

He worked with Governor Ibikunle Amosun at close quarters as the Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

After many consultations, Dayo Adeneye finally settled to contest for the Odogbolu constituency seat in the state House of Assembly under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) but lost. Well, it is not yet over until it’s over. So, while still hopefully looking forward to a dramatic turn of political events that may still favour him, a last resort awaits him in his erstwhile journalism profession.

Over 1.5m stunted children in South-West, Edo – UNICEF

United Nations Children’s Fund ( UNICEF ) says over 1.5 million children under five years in the South-West and Edo needs urgent intervention to address their stunted growth.

Mrs Ada Ezeogu, the UNICEF Nutrition Specialist, Akure Field Office, made this known at a two-day media interaction on child nutrition in the South-West.
The forum was organised by the Ogun Ministry of Information and Strategy in collaboration with UNICEF on Tuesday in Ibadan.
According to her, an estimated 17 million or 43.6 per cent of children in Nigeria under the age of five have their bodies and minds limited by stunting.

She pointed out that in the South-West, Ogun has the highest incidence with 26.1 per cent or 277,462 children.

The nutrition specialist described stunting as a “manifestation of the severe, irreversible physical and cognitive damage” caused by chronic malnutrition early in a child which is one of the most significant barriers to human development.

She identified the challenges faced by the affected states as absence of policy on adolescent nutrition, shortage or lack of maternity leave, non-enforcement of the code of marketing of breast milk substitutes, and lack of workplace protection and support for nursing mothers.

The Ogun Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Dayo Adeneye, emphasised the need to intensify effort to reduce stunting through proper nutrition, especially now that Nigeria was at a critical stage of malnutrition.

According to him, proper nutrition is germane to human growth, adding that a well-nurtured generation will contribute meaningfully to the development of its society.

“It is quite alarming to note that a large percentage of the young children in Nigeria is either undernourished or micro-nutrient deficient, while some even suffer from over-nourishment, otherwise called obesity.

“We cannot continue to fold our hands and stand aloof with such issues staring us in the face, most especially, when those affected are the vulnerable in society.

“These are under five, who have no voice and are definitely looking up to us to proffer solutions to their plights,” he said.

Adeneye noted that the Overview of National Nutritional Level indicates that 80 per cent of the world’s stunted children live in 14 countries, saying Nigeria has the second highest burden of stunting after India.

Grammy: Nobody shut us out, say Nigerian celebs

Wthe news hit town, there were mixed reactions. It was said that some Nigerian celebrities, who travelled the United States to attend the last Grammy Awards ceremony, were reportedly barred from the event because they couldn’t afford to pay $4,000 for a table.

As soon as the news went viral on the social media, many wondered if the celebrities were invited for the show.

While they could rationalise the presence of the duo of Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye of Prime Time Entertainment at the event, not a few claimed that artistes like Kcee, Julius Agwu, Harrysong, Seyi Shay and Dencia, who was mistaken for Nicki Minaj, had gone only to show off.

However, the celebrities, who are rankled by this seeming insult, stated their own side of the story.

Julius Agwu said: “I had a pass already into the Grammy, so also other celebrities. We arrived the venue in a limo and walked through the red carpet. However, we can’t deny the fact that we are not known as celebrities. We might be big in Nigeria, but nobody knew us there. Maybe that’s why we just entered the venue, just as every other person that attended.”

In his comment, Adeneye, alias D1, said: “I don’t know why we (Nigerians) like spreading rumours. What do we intend to gain from spreading falsehood? I’m not happy about it; I must confess. This is because you can’t get to the red carpet without an invitation. In fact, you need to get an invitation and tickets are not being sold. You can’t even work freely on the street when you don’t have business at the Grammy. You can’t snap pictures inside the hall. Pictures are not allowed, except at the red carpet. It’s part of the rules.”

Ayo Animashaun, chief executive officer of Smooth Productions, explained: “Let me correct that impression. They don’t sell tables at the Grammy. We were invited. In fact, we drove our limo to the red carpet. You can’t even get to the red carpet without an invitation and once you get to the red carpet, you have access to the main hall. So, it’s a rumour.”
