  • Diamond Platnumz, D’banj to headline The Future Awards Africa

    AS the 2015 edition of The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) inches close, organisers have revealed that Tanzania’s rave-of-the-moment, Diamond Platnumz and Nigeria’s singer, D’banj will headline the show which is marking its 10th anniversary this year. The event is billed to take place on December 6 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos.

    Incidentally, both artistes are alumni of the awards – D’banj was Young Person of the Year 2007 and Diamond won the Prize in Entertainment 2014.

    Diamond is one of Africa’s most influential artistes following his two time nomination at the MTV MAMAs where he won the Best Worldwide Act in 2015. His hit song Number One has gained massive air play around the globe.

    D’banj, a global music brand from the continent, this year won the MTV MAMA Evolution, he has collaborated with Snoop Dogg and has been ambassador for the ONE campaign.

    These two will be joined by Omawumi, a Nigerian award winning singer who returns to the TFAA stage, as the 10th anniversary is hosted by singer/songwriter Dare Art-Alade and South African OAP, Bonang Matheba. The award is held in partnership with the British High Commission, the Ford Foundation, Microsoft, the US Consulate, Canadian High Commission, Sterling Bank Plc. and The Tony Elumelu Foundation.

    D’Banj bounces back with Frosh video featuring Akon

    AFTER a hiatus from the Nigerian music scene, it seems Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’Banj, seems to be finding his way back to relevance again.

    The self-acclaimed kokomaster, on Monday announced the premiere of a new video on his social media accounts.

    “The wait is over,” he wrote on Instagram, with an accompanying poster highlighting details of the premiere. “Tune into @tracenigeria now and Enjoy #FROSH. Thanks for your patience and your Endless Support.”

    Only last Sunday, 2Face Idibia had appealed that D’Banj and his former buddy, Don Jazzy, to get together to make at least, one song. “Don Jazzy and D’banj, abeg make una do one more hit song, just one,” 2face appealed. The appeal came after 2face and D’Banj performed the song, I’m Feeling Good which was produced by Don Jazzy.

    D’Banj responded saying: “Sure! It’s going to happen just for you, abi Don Jazzy.” Don Jazzy in turn affirmed by nodding his head.

    D’Banj and Don Jazzy had worked together before they fell out.

    Omotola, D’Banj, Bono make case for women, girl-child

    Popular Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, star musician D’Banj and others are involved in a campaign seeking an end to abuse of women and the girl-child.

    The campaign, being championed by ONE.org, involves nearly seven million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease.

    They intend to achieve this with the theme, ‘Poverty is Sexist’ and a remix of the song: ‘Strong Girls’, which is about women’s empowerment and justice, written by Arielle T, Blessing, Gabriella, Judith Sephuma, Selmor Mtukudzi, Vanessa Mdee, Victoria Kimani, Waje and Yemi Alade . The remix will feature D’Banj, Diamond, Banky W, Femi Kuti, Bono and will be produced by Cobhams Asuquo.

    The news conference on the campaign held at the weekend. It was attended by A-list music and movie stars like Omotola, Waje, Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), D’Banj and Bono, who is the lead singer of U2 and co-founder of ONE, Banky W, Selmor Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe) and Dr. Sipho S. Moyo.

    “Women and girls everywhere are disadvantaged from the moment they are born. Who doesn’t want their sisters, daughters, nieces to have the same chances in life as their brothers, sons and nephews? That’s why this Strong Girl remix is so important. Our message is loud and it’s impossible to ignore, I hope that our leaders are listening.” Omotola said.

    P-Square, D’Banj others lift Nigeria’s image at Mama Awards

    Nigeria’s image as the music headquarters of Africa was given a boost last Saturday night in South Africa by many Glo ambassadors who dust other African Artistes at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) held in Durban.

    Top among the Glo ambassadors who led the list of Nigerian artistes that won in different categories at the popular music awards were Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, and the duo of PSquare. While D’banj won the maiden MAMA Evolution Award, PSquare took home the Best Group Award and Artiste of the Decade.

    D’banj won the award ahead of other super stars such as 2face and Asa who were nominated in the same category.

    The Evolution category was introduced for the first time this year to celebrate artistes who have not only made huge impact on the African music scene, but also taken African music to the global entertainment scene. The winner was jointly decided by MTV Base and online voting through Twitter and Instagram.

    PSquare also beat some African heavy weights to clinch their award. They included Beatenberg of South Africa, Sauti Sol of Kenya and B4 of Angola. The Nigerian twins also won ‘Artiste of the decade’, in recognition of their consistency at the top of African music over the years.

    There was more recognition for Glo brand artistes as a third ambassador, Damini Ogulu, whose stage name is Burnaboy, won an award for his collaboration with AKA, Da Les & JR: (SA/Nigeria) on ”All Eyes On Me”.

    Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, and Di’ja of Marvin Records who were recently signed on as ambassadors by Glo were also honoured as ‘Dorobucci’, a song in which they featured prominently was named the ‘Song of the Year’.

    Award-winning actor OC Ukeje and ace comedian Basketmouth, who are also Glo ambassadors, were nominated for the Personality of the Year category.

    Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid), nominated for the Best Male Category and the Song of the Year Category, and Flavour (Chinedu Izuchukwu Okoli)ý, nominated for the Best Live Category, completed a memorable night for acts on the Glo ambassadorial list.

    Award-winning musician, Mr Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’Banj, stormed the new ultra modern regional administrative headquarters and laboratories of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Lagos last week to lend support to the agency’s renowned public enlightenment campaign against counterfeit drugs and other substandard regulated products in the country.

    D’banj who was conducted round NAFDAC’s laboratories at Oshodi and Yaba strongly commended the agency for its relentless fight against counterfeit drugs and efforts to save the lives of millions of Nigerians.

    He explained that his tour of NAFDAC laboratories and the illuminating explanations offered by the regulatory officers on duty should be widely disseminated to millions of vibrant Nigerian youths who are ignorant about public health issues and regulatory activities.

    His words: “I am very impressed and inspired with what I have seen at NAFDAC laboratories and other offices. Before now, I found it difficult to distinguish a genuine drug from the counterfeit. We hear a lot of news about fake drugs. From what I have seen today, I am well informed. On behalf of the Nigerian youths, I just have to commend NAFDAC for their good works.”

    D’banj who was mobbed by enthusiastic fans praised the Director General of NAFDAC for taking the agency to greater heights as one of the top 20 medicines regulatory authorities in the world.

    Director General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, who was highly elated, said D’banj’s visit was a morale booster and source of encouragement for the NAFDAC regulatory workers saddled with the sacred mandate of safeguarding public health.

    Dr. Orhii thanked the celebrated musician for his show of solidarity and readiness to strengthen NAFDAC’s public enlightenment campaign through his musical platform.

  • D’banj missing from his debt trial

    D’banj missing from his debt trial

    Popular entertainer and owner of DB records, D’banj was reportedly missing from his alleged debt trial. In November 2014, Henry Ojogho, Vice Chairman of Broron Group and Vice Chairman of MindHub Technologies, claimed that he borrowed D’banj a sum of N60m, which he refused to pay at the time agreed.

    He further claimed that D’banj issued two bounced cheques – one on December 20, 2013, and another on January 20, 2014.

    Not only was D’banj missing from the first sitting on Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Multi-door Courthouse, Obalende, Lagos, the claimant of the case, Henry Ojogho, was also not present.

    D’banj was represented a lawyer from Dele Adeshina’s chambers.

    The presiding judge, Justice (Mrs.) Oyebanji adjourned the case till May 7, 2015.

    Nollywood actress, Beverly Naya, has declared her love for Nigerian pop singer, Dapo Oyebanjo, aka Dbanj. Naya, who is one of Nigeria’s finest actresses, was speaking on her celebrity crush on One on One, a programme on Pulse TV.

    She said: “…I will just say D’banj. I love his swag, and he has a lot of presence. That can be appealing to a lot of women sometimes.”

    Sometime back, Nigerian singer, Skales, made it known that he appreciates her beauty and talent, and sees her as his ‘celebrity crush’.
