He will also feature in a music video aimed at promoting agriculture among the youths on the continent.

“I look forward to this project. The fact that I will be working with some of Africa’s biggest stars is fantastic,” Cobhams Asuquo said during the press conference.

D’banj joined other African leaders and farming businessmen, including former president Olusegun Obasanjo, to launch the Year of Agriculture at the AU Summit.

It will be recalled that Dbanj recently shared a picture of himself in a cocoa farm in Ghana, a situation that has further confirmed his huge investment in farming.

OJB Jezreel not happy with D’Banj

ACE music producer, OJB, who recently returned from abroad, where he had a successful operation, is not happy with one of Nigeria’s popular pop acts, D’banj.

OJB, in a recent interview with a top radio station in Lagos, said, “The most disappointing one for me is D’banj because he passed through my hands; he was trained under my tutelage. That is offensive. I don’t care if you’re with Kanye West; you can’t forget your root. I won’t call anybody else’s name, but I will call his because it hurts.

“He never tried to reach out to me. It’s not like we parted on fighting terms. He told me he had to go to London and he went. And when he came back, it was Don Jazzy, and I said OK, that’s fine. And what he did worked and I’m very proud of him. He should have come out to say, ‘No, I don’t know why you people are saying all this. I didn’t give OJB N7million.”

Undeterred, D’banj, Burna Boy get crazy on stage again

Not minding fans’ recent criticism of his act in far away Zimbabwe, Dapo Oyebanjo aka D’banj, ended the year with his showmanship appeal, thrilling the crowd to near bare-body show at the Lagos Countdown show, last Tuesday.

His Nigerian fans appear to understand his style, and the ladies all went for him.

The Kokomaster, has he is fondly called, had represented West Africa in Zimbabwe where he was the main attraction, and when it was his turn to perform, he exploded onto the stage amid pomp and zest but soon fizzled out and slumped into near- pornography with some fans.

But the Lagos experience was different. It goes to show that it is not only the ladies turning up the heat during concerts, we see the guys also like to switch the game up a bit.

Perhaps D’banj’s act was a boost to what Burna Boy craves most. He took off his shirt to measure up with the Kokomaster. Incidentally, both singers had a collabo earlier, on a hit song, Won Da Mo.

Only recently, concerns were raised by fans over Burna Boy’s performance during Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s memorial concert. The artiste had performed near-naked, showing up in white briefs while mimicking the late Afrobeat precursor. His show gave rise to murmur among the crowd.

One of the critics of Burna Boy’s stunt was Fela’s son, Seun Kuti, who said on his BlackBerry Messanger that his father was not properly depicted by the act.

Dbanj urges FG to invest in music industry

NIGERIAN hip-hop star, Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, on Tuesday, July 30, in Abuja urged the Federal Government to design programmes that would boost the nation’s music industry. This, he said, will help to utilise the talents in the country.

D’banj said this when he made a visit to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke. He said that the youth in the country are endowed with music potentials that should be harnessed.

“Nigeria’s entertainment industry needs support and I am committed to being a part of efforts toward achieving this. Not everything about us should be about oil,” he said. He also spoke about the need to promote the country’s image in the international community through music and entertainment.

“But we can achieve this through establishing a collaboration that will offer support for young and upcoming musicians who have the talents to showcase the country to the world. There has been a lot of wrong perception about how we are. When you spend the whole day, you will understand. I want everyone to come and see how great Nigeria is. People will get to see,” D’banj added.

The artiste also described the entertainment industry as an employer of labour, adding that it is capable of keeping the youth economically engaged and out of social vices.

Duke called on musicians across the country and in the Diaspora to strive to be role models. According to Duke, the Federal Government is determined to “strengthen the nation’s entertainment industry with support from stars such as D’banj.”

He urged him to use his popularity and talent to attract international partners to promote the nation’s music industry.

  • Wande Coal quits Marvin records

    Wande Coal quits Marvin records

Award-winning artiste, Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe, popularly known as Wande Coal has quit Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records.

The Nation gathered that Wande Coal, a member of the defunct Mo’hits records, co-owned by Dbanj and Don Jazzy, released a single Kilaju two days ago, under his own floated record label called Black Diamond Entertainment. His two previous singles Kick and Rotate had been released under Marvin Records.

Although no official statement has been issued on Wande exit from Mavin Records, there are strong indications that he has moved on for good as the official cover art of the new single reads: Black Diamond Entertainment-Wande Coal Kilaju-produced by Maleek Berry.

The producer of the single is another indication that things have fallen apart in the Marvin camp as Maleek is Wizkid’s in-house producer.

A source who does not want his name in print disclosed that Wande’s career has been dormant right from the days of the Mo’hits records and as such he may have decided to take his destiny in his own hands by launching his own record label.

“Don’t blame Wande Coal; he’s only released one full-length album, Mushin2Mohits back in 2009,” the source said.

It would be recalled that Mavin Records was founded barely a year ago after the crisis that rocked Mo’Hits records. Other artistes on the label are Tiwa Savage, D’Prince and Dr. Sid.

    D’banj acquires $25, 000 suit

INTERNATIONAL superstar, D’banj who has been appointed as the Hennessy Artistry artiste for 2013 and also recently became the Goodwill ambassador for the Bank of Industry, has continued to rise in stardom despite his split from erstwhile partnership, Mo’Hits Records.

He has continued to command huge sums of money in endorsements, appearances and performances thus ranking him among the highest earning Nigerian artistes. In a recent newspaper interview, he confirmed he wears the same wristwatch as American rapper Jay-Z, valued at $50,000.

This increasing earning power has also led to an increase in spending as D’banj just took delivery of what is known as the Suit of Money. Designed by Okunoren, Nigeria’s leading clothing brand, the Suit is made of actual One Hundred Dollar bills and cost a whopping $25,000, which is approximately N3.7 million. It was entirely sewn by hand in London but was then taken to Italy for the specialized Milanese buttonholes to be done at the same factory used by Tom Ford.

His new song titled Blame it on the Money, featuring Snoop Lion and fellow Good Music act Big Sean goes further to emphasize his wealth where he states he is unapologetic for being rich, set to become one of the major anthems this season. His DKM concert features International rapper, 2Chainz as well as another surprise guest.

    D’BANJ is best on wristwatches

WHEN recently, top Nigerian singer, D’banj, was asked to mention the most expensive fashion item he has acquired, the artiste said it was a $50, 000 (N7.9m) FM wrist watch, plus another timepiece, which American Rapper, Jay Z also owns.

“I’m always wearing expensive things; like now, I have two watches on my wrist. I’m putting on a Franck Muller, master of complication. It goes for at least $50,000. The other is a big-face, the same one Jay-Z is rocking.”

When asked to describe his fashion style, the Kokomaster said; “I don’t know. I just dress how I want to be addressed. Sometimes, I want to look like a biker, sometimes I want to look like a billionaire. I wanted to get myself a power bike until I started making it. I had to decide against it because if I get injured, I would not be able to perform. Right now, I can only ride through video games.”
