    Keshi offered N7m-a-month deal

Nigeria have offered coach Stephen Keshi an improved contract that will pay him N7million a month (over $44,000), a top official has exclusively told AfricanFootball.com.

For his first contract, which ran out after the World Cup in Brazil, Keshi was on N5 million monthly and has now demanded he be paid twice that amount.

The coach, who was not considered for the vacant South Africa post, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are expected to finalise a new deal next week.

A top official, who has been part of the contract talks, informed that ‘Big Boss’ Keshi has said he wishes to continue as Nigeria’s coach

“We have had meetings with Keshi and the good news is that he is willing to continue as coach of the Super Eagles,” the top official told AfricanFootball.com.

“He is only concerned that most of the fringe benefits in his contract were not provided and demands better treatment from the Federation. I think the first step was a success and we will build on it because the (2015 Africa Cup of Nations) qualifiers are not far away.”

The Super Eagles will in early September begin the defence of the AFCON crown they won in South Africa last year.

They are drawn in a qualifying group that has South Africa, Sudan and either Congo or Rwanda.

Man City hoping to seal Iheanacho deal

    • Dad proud of son

Manchester City will look to tie up a deal for teenage playmaker Kelechi Iheanacho when they return from their US tour.

The 17-year-old has agreed to link up with City but a work permit will be required in order for him to compete in England and the required paperwork is yet to be processed.

City are prepared to keep pushing the relevant authorities, with Iheanacho having shown what an exciting talent he is by scoring in a 4-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday.

Manuel Pellegrini believes the youngster is destined for a bright future and would like to see his potential unlocked at the Etihad Stadium.

He is, however, also aware that there are a number of obstacles to overcome before a player who starred for Nigeria at the World U-17 Championship in 2013 can be added to the City ranks.

Pellegrini said: “Kelechi is just 17 years old and he’s a very important player for us in the future.

“He has demonstrated what he can do in the future. It depends on the way he takes this profession, but I think he’s a good talent.

“We’ve not yet decided (what the plan is for him) because it’s not easy. He’s just 17 and sometimes that’s the problem. We’ll see what he will do in the future.

“For the moment he will stay with us and we’ll see when we return to England what will happen with him. But he’s a very important player for the future for the club.

“After the tour we will see what happens with him. There are a lot of things to arrange to play in England but he has an important future.”

After his debut goal in Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Sporting Kansas City in their pre-season tour of the USA, Nigeria youth international, Kelechi Iheanacho’s dad, James told SL10 of his excitement at seeing his son score for the English Champions.

“I’m super excited that my son (Kelechi) has scored his first goal for Manchester City. I didn’t watch the game, but his agent called and told me about it, and I have since seen the replays. I’m very excited about this development,” he told SL10.

Iheanacho Jnr. scored City’s fourth goal with a cool finish, after fellow debutant, Bruno Zuculini, Dedryck Boyata, and Aleksander Kolarov all also got on the score sheet.

Iheanacho had previously failed to make the Manchester City teams that played two friendly games in Scotland against Dundee United and Hearts, but grabbed his opportunity with both hands by scoring and putting up a good display against Kansas City.

Iheanacho Snr. continued: “I told him how hard he had to work to make the Manchester City first team and I’m happy he’s putting good effort. I hope he continues to work hard, and continues to progress.”

  • NFF TO TECHNICAL COMMITTEE: Seal Keshi’s deal in 7 days

NFF TO TECHNICAL COMMITTEE: Seal Keshi’s deal in 7 days

    • An Emergency Congress slated for Thursday, 31st July

THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has instructed its technical committee to seal a deal with Super Eagles chief coach, Stephen Keshi, for another four years in the next seven days and report their findings to the executive committee at an unspecified date.

The executive committee members stated categorically that they were still interested in retaining Keshi’s services for the Super Eagles, stressing that: “The Executive Committee mandated the Technical Sub-Committee to open channels of communication with Mr. Stephen Keshi with a view to extending his contract, as the NFF is still interested in working with him. The Technical Sub-Committee is to report back to the Executive Committee within ONE WEEK.”

The executive body revealed further that subsequent financial dealings with Super Eagles’ players and coaches must be done before the commencement of such international competitions to avert the show-of-shame that dogged Nigeria’s participation at the Brazil 2014 World Cup competition, where Nigeria was eliminated by France 2-0 in the Round of 16.

“Henceforth, all financial issues with players and officials must be thoroughly deliberated upon and agreed ahead of major matches and competitions, to avoid the kind of embarrassment brought upon the nation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil, when players boycotted training sessions before the Round of 16 match with France.”

“An Emergency Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation will be convened in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Thursday, 31st July, 2014 to ratify the impeachment of Alhaji Aminu Maigari from the NFF Executive Committee.”

The Executive Committee commended world football–governing body, FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for their keen interest in the development of Nigerian football and pledged that the country will continue to abide by the dictates of FIFA and CAF Statutes and FIFA–approved NFF Statutes.

“The Executive Committee thanked Nigerians from far and near for their patience and understanding during the crisis period and reiterated that concerted efforts that are geared towards the development of football in Nigeria, are on.

It remains to be seen if the NFF executive body will be in office when the decisions raised in the comunique are taken with a few days to the NFF’s elections, where a majority of those at Thursday’s meeting would be shocked at the polls.
