I love to make people happy with my DJ skills, says Super Falcons’ star Deborah Abiodun

While her rising star continues to shine on the football pitch, Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has revealed a surprising passion off the field. The 21-year-old Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champion says her love for music runs deep, tracing back to her childhood.

“Music has always run in my family. My older brother is a musician,” Abiodun explained. “When we were younger, I used to be his beat producer. I would make beats for him and we just created music for the fun of it.”

But it wasn’t just her brother who inspired her musical journey. Her mother, who is a party host, also played a huge role in shaping her connection to music.

“My mom enjoyed organising parties and making people happy. I believe that is where my deep love for music began. I saw how it could bring joy to others and I’ve never forgotten that feeling.”

Despite her achievements on the football field, Abiodun sees music as her escape. According to her, she is an introvert who leans on music as therapy and companionship.

“I don’t talk to a lot of people, so music is like my best friend. DJing helps take the pressure off football. I’m emotionally invested in the game but music calms me down when things get too intense.”

Currently studying Digital Media, the young star is actively building her online presence, setting the stage for a potential second career.

“I want to be a lot of things, but it’s one step at a time. DJing isn’t just about the money for me, it’s about the joy and the fun. I don’t see myself working a regular office job. I enjoy practical work.”

Known for her skill and fearless spirit on the pitch, Abiodun is ready to turn the tables.

“I want to be a well-known DJ. I want to bring people the same happiness that music has given me.”
