  • APC to APGA: using Ojukwu’s name to campaign is deceit

The use of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s name by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to campaign ahead of the November 18 governorship election is a deceit, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said.

Dozie Ikedife Jnr, the running mate to APC candidiate, Dr Tony Nwoye, addressed reporters yesterday at Nnewi on APGA’s alleged use of the late warlord’s name to deceive the electorate.

He urged Anambra electorate to avoid sentiments when they want to vote on November 18.

The APC running mate said the party was prepared to remove APGA from government.

He described the incumbent administration in the state as a disaster.

Ikedife, the son of former President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, said over 90 per cent of Governor Obiano’s achievements in almost four years were on bill boards, pages of newspapers and electronic media with nothing concrete on the ground to prove their existence.

The APC running mate cautioned that the use of the late Odumegwu Ojukwu’s name for campaign would no longer work for APGA.

He said: “This is because Anambra people have demystified the antics of APGA government’s propaganda. They should allow the late Ikemba Nnewi’s soul to rest in peace.”

Ikedife noted that the bill boards dotting Anambra State landscape with the picture of the late Odumegwu Ojukwu and the inscriptions “nke a bu nke anyi” (this is our own), is the biggest deceit of the season.

The APC chieftain queried how a party, whose presence could not be felt beyond the River Niger or other boundaries of Anambra State, would become ideal for the Igbo or claim to be for the interest of the Anambra people and the Ndigbo.

He said: “The APC is coming with a passion to relieve our people from economic and political bondage.

“Agreed that taxation is a major source of government revenue, but we will ensure a pocket-friendly tax regime in our drive for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and make it open and transparent to all Anambra people.”

  • Southern Kaduna Christians oppose ‘political deceit’

Prominent religious leaders, under the aegis of Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Council (SKCLC), led by Bishop Joseph Danlami Bagobiri, at the weekend vowed to fight political deceit and injustice being meted out to the people ahead of the 2015 general elections.

They also said promised to mobilise their followers to vote for only credible and competent candidates who would address fundamental issues without recourse to political parties and other inclinations.

The religious leaders stated their position at the Southern Kaduna Prayer Summit in Kafanchan,  the political headquarters of the area.

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) former National President Prof Yusufu Turaki said: “I stand here to speak on behalf of Southern Kaduna Leaders Council and also on behalf of the majority of our people and Southern Kaduna in general. The rallying cry, groaning and yearnings of our people can be summarised in few words: the quest for socio-political and economic emancipation. Our sons in particular have been involved in politics since independence but with no tangible, visible and enduring results.

“In recent times, we have suffered too many political setbacks. One in particular worth mentioning is the death of Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa. Since our sons and daughters have lost their political bearings and relevance, we are now being compelled to chart a new political path for our people.

“We must change the political game and bring our people to the centre stage of politics so that they can become the centrepiece of our current politics. We no longer trust our politicians.”

Turaki, who is one of the leading African theologians, added: “We are no longer interested in any political slogans or political posters or political money bags, but only real political stuff for our people. We are no longer interested in hearing political stories and lies of politicians. Rather, we want to be listened to.”

  • When sweet deceit come calling

IF you take a deep look into the crystal ball, you can be sure that about 90 per cent of ladies desire to hook a guy who’s good looking, kind and charming all the way. Those were the things Omowunmi saw in Solomon and ever since she set her eyes on him she just couldn’t let go. He had just crossed over from the company’s headquarters in Abuja and he was a senior colleague. Initially, Solomon was not quite keen about a relationship, he appeared to be adjusting to the new environment as well as trying to carve a niche for himself at work.

On her part there was a deep hole in Omowunmi’s heart yearning to be filled with affectionate fingers. Her ex-boyfriend had just given her a red card and she was really pissed off with the fact that she did so much to win his heart. “That guy was really ungrateful. I did everything for him and he had almost nothing when we met. I actually took a loan in the bank to refurbish his car, bought new set of clothes for him and gave him some allowance to make him feel cool.”

From feeling cool, his demands increased and I became an emotional ATM machine. “Two months later, he told me that his mother’s rent had expired and he needed to pay the money immediately. Of course, I didn’t have much money but I just could not turn down the request of my dear Romeo.”

It was quite obvious that he meant so much to her and she just could not imagine what life would be like without this dude. “A number of my friends tried to caution and warn me to tread softly, but somehow I was madly in love with this cassanova. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t look beyond my nose, he had swept me off my feet and I just couldn’t think properly again. Foolishly, I dumped the guy who truly loved me and began to chase emotional shadows. I spent all my money and fortune trying to please him and unfortunately for me I was always on the receiving end. He had so many other ladies on his itinerary and my desire intimately led to desperation and frustration.”

Like Solomon, Adeola was indeed a ladies’ man with a tongue coated with sugar or honey for emotional fools like yours truly.

What a loss? But do you really blame this guy for turning the tables upside down? Most times, you do not really know who a person is if he or she is poor or penniless. This is the season of emotional humility indeed. Once their financial questions have been answered you can be sure of getting a transformation that would reveal who they really are.

At such moments, the adventurous side plays itself out and you can be sure to drink from the stream of emotional deception, arrogance and frustration. Now, it’s obvious that she is in love once more but she is also afraid of stepping into a fool’s paradise once more.

Well, you can’t really blame her because it is very difficult discovery if the love that you are entangled with ends on the lips. Recently, a self-professed ‘serial cheater’ came out to talk about how his unfaithful lifestyle ‘alleviates the pressure’ in his relationship with his fiancée. Interestingly, the man confesses to engaging in ‘respectful infidelity’, which involves keeping certain things off-limits, like cheating with a married woman or someone from work, and staying the night in her bed.

He explains that not only does he crave the excitement of being with someone new, but that he and his fiancée actually ‘work better’ when he is cheating – even if she doesn’t know about it. The man claims that one reason secretly cheating with other women helps his relationship is because staying monogamous makes him feel like he is ‘bottling something up’.

Interestingly, he explains that going a long time without cheating causes him to resent his fiancée, ‘because I’m not allowing myself to go and do what I [need] to do’. This cheating spree has actually been done at least 15 times since he began dating his fiancee.

Despite admitting to feeling a sense of ‘looming’ guilt, the serial cheater says cheating by no means indicates that he isn’t in love with his significant other. To minimise his feelings of guilt, the man says he never initiates a situation with another woman, instead letting them approach him first.

He also says that not getting caught cheating is the most ‘respectful’ way of being unfaithful. According to him, if a cheater does not view infidelity simply as something to get out of their system, and if they can’t come home and still love their significant other, they should not be cheating.

While he asserts that men are better at understanding the need to have ‘detached sex’ than women are, he also believes that men who don’t cheat are ‘wired differently’ than himself. In fact, the man confesses that he has only ever been faithful in one relationship.

Since he proposed to his girlfriend, however, he has decided to turn over a new leaf, which means remaining monogamous – if not for her sake, for the sake of the children he hopes they have together.

  • Kaadi Igbe Ayo a deceit, says Ondo ACN

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ondo State yesterday said the Kaadi Igbe Ayo inaugurated by the state government is a deceit.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Agbede, ACN said: “At a time when the government cannot pay its workers and is laying off thousands of civil servants, this extraordinary display of financial recklessness is nothing but an act of insensitivity to the plight of the poor in the society.

“This showiness at the detriment of the common people is not expected from a government that claims to be working for the people.

“The state is challenged with a leadership that lacks the capacity to deliver and engages in frivolities.

“This card project is certainly another chapter in a series of absurdities of this clueless administration.

“What is the usefulness of a card that captures the data of only people of voting age, if not for the dual purposes of draining the state’s resources and creating a data base for the injection of ghost voters into the voter’ register as revealed at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

“The inauguration of the card and its attendant fanfare is an attempt to cover their tracks and divert the attention of the people from the original reason behind the project.

“We are consoled by the fact that the reign of the Labour Party (LP) is a passing phase and would soon be consigned to the dustbin of history to pave way for a new government devoid of vices in the interest of the common man.”
