  • Court remands man, 82, for allegedly defiling girl, 13

    An octogenarian, Pa Ayoade Omobolaji, was yesterday remanded at Kirikiri Prison by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.

    Omobolaji, 82, will remain in custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

    He was arraigned before the Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, on a one-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse.

    Police prosecutor Simon Imhonum alleged that the defendant committed the offence on September 25 at 26, Amosu Street, Obadore, Igando, Lagos.

    The charge reads: “That you, Ayoade Omobolaji, on September 25 at 26, Amosu Street, Obadore, Igando, Lagos did forcefully and unlawfully defile a 13-year-old girl by having sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty.

    Osunsanmi granted him bail at N500,000.00 with two sureties.

    She said the sureties must work in a reputable organisation, own property in the jurisdiction, show evidence of tax payment in the last three years, all of which must be verified.

    The magistrate adjourned the matter till November 21 for trial.

  • Boy charged with defiling girl, 3

    A teenage boy, Emmanuel Gabriel, who allegedly defiled a three-year-old girl, is facing trial at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    Gabriel, 18, a cleaner, who resides at Shasha, a suburb of Lagos, was arraigned for child defilement.

    Inspector Clifford Ogu, the prosecutor, told the court that the offence was committed on July 25 at Air Force Primary School, Shasha, Lagos.

    Ogu said the accused, who is a cleaner in the school of the minor, was caught by one of the teachers.

    “He was caught when he was busy fingering the minor.

    “The accused ran away since then and efforts by the police to arrest him proved abortive until he was apprehended at his friend’s house,” he said.

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni granted the accused N250,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned the case until September 20 for mention.

  • Secondary school pupil charged with defiling girl, 3

    A 15-year-old secondary school pupil, who allegedly defiled a three-year-old girl, was yesterday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused, who lives with his parents at Adeyemi Makinde Street, Alagbado, is facing a charge of defilement.

    The prosecutor, Simeon Inuoha told the court that the offence was committed on December 19 at the accused’s residence.

    Inuoha said the accused called the minor and lured her to the bathroom before defiling her.

    “It was the cry of the girl that attracted her brother, who caught the accused in the act.’’

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    Chief Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, also ordered the student to be remanded in the Boys’ Correctional Centre at Oregun, Lagos, until the bail conditions were met.

    She adjourned the case till January 25 pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.

    Man arrested for ‘defiling’ girl

    Police operatives attached to the Abigi Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 60-year-old man, Adewale Enoch, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl on Boxing Day.

    The incident was reported to the police by the girl’s father and the suspect was arrested at Moborode in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

    Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi informed reporters that the suspect would be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation.

    Adejobi urged parents and guardians to monitor their children or wards.

    Civil servant in court for ‘defiling’ girl, 5

    A 22-year-old man, Adekunle Taiwo was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s five-year-old daughter.

    The accused, a civil servant, who lives at Atobaje Street, Agege, is facing a charge of defilement.

    Prosecuting police Inspector Racheal Williams, told the count that the offence was committed at about 10.30 p.m. at the residence of the accused on July 12.

    According to Williams, the victim’s mother went to buy food and left her child at the passage of the house.

    “The accused, who just returned from work, dragged the child to a corner and raped her.

    “The cry of the child alerted a neighbour who came outside his room and caught the accused in the act,” she said.

    The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    Taiwo pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, granted him N250, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

    He adjourned the case to August 12.
