Catherine Edet, 29, and her male lover, Chinedu Nwobodo, 30, were on Tuesday granted N7 million bail by an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling two sisters.

. The trial judge, Mr A. T. Elias, admitted Nwobodo to a N5 million bail with two sureties, who are to deposit the sum of N250,000 each into the account of the court.

Edet was, however, admitted to a bail of N2 million with two sureties each in like sum.

The duo are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, defilement and failing to provide necessary care and endangering the health of the children in their custody.

They both, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin, had told the court that the accused had committed the offences sometimes in December 2016 at Ikota Housing Estate, Ajah, Lagos.

Omisakin alleged that Nwobodo, Edet’s boyfriend, was fond of defiling his lover’s two daughters, aged 9 and 12, whenever he visited.

“When he had realised that his lover was fast sleep after she must have drunk to stupor, he would have intercourse with the two girls,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offences contravened Sections 137, 245 and 411 of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2015 as amended.

The court adjourned the case until May 10.

  • School supervisor held for ‘defiling’ pupil, 2

School supervisor held for ‘defiling’ pupil, 2

A 46-year-old school supervisor,  Adegboyega Adenekan, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling a 34 months old girl.

Adenekan, a supervisor in Chrisland International School in Victoria Garden City (VGC) Lagos, was alleged to have defiled the girl under the guise of teaching her sex education.

Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni, who paraded Adenekan yesterday at the command’s Ikeja headquarters, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint by the victim’s mother at the Ikeja Police Division.

He claimed that preliminary investigation showed that the pastor defiled the girl, stressing that the suspect would be charged to court.

Adenekan said he got a call from the pupil’s mother accusing him of defiling her daughter.

The suspect denied committing the crime saying: “I am a teacher from that school; what happened was that on Friday,  November 11, I got a call around 8am from one woman and she identified herself as the mother of pupil. She alleged on the phone that I sexually abused her daughter. I then asked her, when, where did it happened, but after all said and done, she said, I want it between the two of us and I have not even told my husband. So when she dropped, I was disturbed. Few minutes after that, she sent a text message to me telling me that she still wants me to remain friendly with her daughter because she knew her daughter holds me in high esteem. She said I should still be a friend to her and all that. I must tell you that I wasn’t myself throughout that day. Again, I got a call the following day, from a man who identified himself . It was an international call. The man also said that I assaulted his daughter sexually and I said, I don’t know what you are talking about, that even yesterday, your wife called me and said the same thing. And I said, when could this happen in a nursery school where no one picks the children except the parents. You walk into the class and pick the child. I don’t know. I have never been alone with this girl, I have never bought any gift for her, and I had never taken her out anywhere. I was so shocked and the man ended the call when I told him all these. And immediately I called my head teacher, Mrs. Azike and I said Ma, this is the allegation I got from this parent which I knew nothing about.

“I want the police to do their investigation. I am ready to submit myself for investigation. I was told the girl is two years and ten months old.  I know God will vindicate me. I am married for 15 years with children.  The teacher of the girl is saying that nothing of such happened and that the girl never left her custody. This girl comes to school with school bus, from what I have heard, and then goes with her school bus. I am a supervisor in that school. I don’t teach. So the allegation that I teach the children sex education is so disturbing to me. I have never taught that girl, I have never taught in that class. She said she took the girl to one private hospital and it was confirmed that the girl was abused. I was told that I failed the lie detector test which I willingly made myself available for but I never heard of such a thing before. It was after that that I went online to research about polygraph. Before we got there, she first of all went there and paid for the test. She did all the arrangement before us and I failed the test.”

  • Father held for defiling daughter

For three years, he slept with his daughter. He got her pregnant and aborted the pregnancy of the 16-year old girl.

On Tuesday, the bubble burst, following the arrest of Peter Kennedy for the alleged defilement of his daughter.

His wife, the girl’s step-mother, was also arrested.

She claimed that when she confronted her husband over the act, he claimed that he “was trying to test his ability if he could perform more sexually.”

Kennedy was alleged to have been sleeping with his daughter since she was 13 and the girl went through an abortion last year.

A concerned neighbour at their Mende, Maryland Lagos neighbourhood was said to have reported the matter to the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), an agency of the Ministry of Justice. DSVRT reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Anthony Village Police Station, who ordered the immediate arrest of the victim’s father and her step- mother.

The police were said to have invited the victim, her father and step-mother, including the whistle blower, to the station where he was said to have confessed to the act in his statement.

His wife said to have confirmed that he has been sleeping with his daughter for three years and relived her involvement in the girl’s abortion.

DSVRT Coordinator Mrs Lola Vivour-Adeniyi and a police officer said last night that the victim had been tasted at Mirabel Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja. The result, they said, is expected today.

  • Court remands 54-year-old man for defiling 11-year-old girl

A 54-year-old man, Gbenga Adebayo, has been remanded in prison custody by a magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, for allegedly abducting and defiling an 11-year-old girl, Joke Aliu (not her real name).

It was gathered that Adebayo led the minor to his aged mother’s place in Usi-Ekiti, about 60 kilometres away from Ado-Ekiti, and held her captive for three weeks. He allegedly visited regularly and slept with her.

Adebayo at the same time joined the search team that went from one neighbourhood to the other to find the ‘lost’ girl in Ado-Ekiti.

As related by the girl afterwards, Adebayo promised to rescue her from her schoolteacher with whom she stayed in the Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti, on the grounds that the teacher was harsh. “Gbenga Adebayo is my neighbour,” she said. “He used to ask me to buy things for him. One day, he approached me, saying he wanted to help me because my teacher was harsh on me. He said he would rescue me from my teacher and take good care of me. He then took me to his mother’s place in Usi-Ekiti. Whenever he comes there, he used to sleep with me. He has done this 10 times now.

“I was at his mother’s place for three weeks after which I refused to sleep with him again, and because of that, he decided to take me to my aunt’s place in Akure. He told my aunt that he found me in his mother’s place in Usi and decided to help me by taking me to her. He is the first man in my life.”

Commenting on the allegation, an aunt of the girl’s in Ado-Ekiti, Mrs Theresa Agboola, disclosed that the victim is an orphan, after losing both parents some years ago. She said: “The girl was staying with her female school teacher (name withheld) who lives in a rented apartment behind Olagold, opposite Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, (EKSUTH) in Adebayo area. About a month ago, June 5 precisely, the girl’s teacher had called to inform me that she (the girl) was missing and that the whole occupants in the house, including the suspect, Gbenga Adebayo, were searching for her.

“That continued till June 29, when my sister from Akure called to tell me that the girl was brought to her by a man whom she identified as the same Gbenga Adebayo. It was then we suspected foul play. We reasoned that if indeed Adebayo was sincere, he could not be the same man who was part of the search team for the girl for three weeks here in Ado-Ekiti and also be the one who would now take her to my sister’s place in Akure after finding her.

“We then reported the case to the police who promptly arrested Adebayo and charged him to court. Last Friday, the magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti remanded him in prison. We also gathered that he had been sleeping with the girl before eventually taking her to his mother.”

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the incident. He said that the suspect had been charged to court for defilement.

DSP George Okafor, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect lured the victim to an abandoned jeep in the area and defiled her.

According to him, the matter was reported to the police by the community’s Youth President, Uchechi Elechi

“The victim was rushed to the Ezzambgo General hospital, Ohaukwu LGA by sympathisers, as her parents for whatever reasons failed to report the matter to us.

“This however, didn’t deter us from going after the suspect, as he would not go unpunished for committing this heinous crime.

“We are convinced that God would definitely punish him for wickedly defiling an innocent five-year-old girl,” he said.

He advised parents to always report such matters to the police without fear of molestation, exposure or stigma, as the command would always respond positively to them.

“We also urge the public to always give us relevant information that would assist us nip various forms of crime in the bud,” he said.

     •Victim’s mother reject N1m offer

The Edo State CCommand has arrested an 85-year old man for allegedly defiling a seven-year old girl at Use, Ogida Quarters in Egor Local Government Area.

It was learnt that the incident, which was reported at the Ogida Police Division, had been transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation.

The mother of the victim, Endurance Ogieva, a rice hawker, alleged that she was offered N1 million by relatives of the suspect for the case to be withdrawn.

In a chat with reporters at the police station, Mrs. Ogieva said the act was committed at the home of the suspect, where she left her children with her sister.

She said blood and semen were found around her daughter’s private part when she caught the suspect standing naked over the girl.

Mrs Ogieva said: “I normally left my children with my sister when I went to hawk rice. After 30 minutes, I decided to check on my sick son. I met my son sleeping and my sister’s husband was also sleeping. His wife was inside the room. I did not see my daughter. I later heard her shouting. I traced the shout to the landlord’s room. The man is about 85 years old.

“I rushed there and saw the man naked. I gripped the man and both of us fell on the chair. The man was begging me to settle. But my shout attracted the neighbours. Other men who came said I wanted to collect money from the man. When they checked my daughter’s private part, they saw blood stains and semen. I went to the police station and the man was arrested.

“The police took my daughter to their clinic and said she had a tear in her private part. They gave me a paper to do four medical tests.

“My daughter said the landlord called the girl to buy local gin (ogogoro). My daughter said he held a knife and threatened her not to shout or he would kill her. It was the forceful penetration that made her to cry.

“The family of the man has been begging me to close the case. But I refused because the doctor said my child had to be checked to ascertain whether or not the man has a disease. We have not done any test yet. I don’t want any money. I want the government to help me because I don’t know if he has damaged my daughter. The child is too small for a man of 85. I don’t want his money. They are promising to give me N1 million, but I want justice from the government. My husband travelled yesterday and he said he would return today.”

The Coordinator of a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Child Protection Network, Mrs Jennifer Ero, noted that the non-establishment of a family court in the state was responsible for the slow dispensation of justice in rape cases.

Mrs. Ero said the NGO would ensure that the case was charged to court.

Police spokesman Joseph Edogiawerie, a deputy superintendent of Police (DSP), said he had not received the details of the case.
