    Delta police arrest suspected cultist, rescue four kidnap victims, recover firearm

    The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational breakthroughs in two separate operations, reinforcing its determination to combat violent crime and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

    The Command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, revealed in a statement on Thursday that on February 2, 2026, five armed men suspected to be kidnappers blocked the Ewu–Ajekuta Road and forcibly abducted four occupants of a Toyota Sienna vehicle.

    Edafe said upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Otu-Jeremi Division, swiftly mobilised operatives.

    He said operatives, working in synergy with sister security agencies and vigilante members of the Ewu community, launched an intensive pursuit of the suspects.

    He said the operation led to the successful rescue of all four victims, who were immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention.

    Two expended 7.5mm ammunition were recovered at the scene, he stated.

    The spokesman said a comprehensive bush-combing operation and manhunt were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

    Edafe also revealed that in a separate intelligence-led operation on February 3, 2026, operatives of the Ibusa Division raided a suspected cult meeting at Anioma Garden, Ugboli Quarters, Ibusa.

    He stated that during the raid, one suspect, Michael Ayauze, was arrested, noting that a preliminary investigation identified him as a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

    He indicated that a search of the suspect led to the recovery of one English Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, and assorted charms.

    He said other members of the gang fled on sighting the Police, stressing that efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Aina Adesola, has reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance for kidnapping, cultism, and other violent crimes. He urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information through the appropriate channels.

    The Delta Police Command has arrested 11 suspected cultists and armed robbers and recovered a locally made gun, four live cartridges and other incriminating items as part of an ongoing intelligence-led manhunt to curb cult-related violence across the state.

    The arrests followed recent cult clashes and killings in Ughelli and other parts of Delta State, which prompted the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, to order intensified operations against criminal elements.

    In Ughelli, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested eight suspected cultists linked to recent cult killings in the area.

    The suspects include Warri Ochuko, 40, and Lucky Okohwoake, 23, whose confessional statements led to the arrest of six others across Ughelli metropolis.

    A locally made gun and four live cartridges were recovered during the operation.

    Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and were allegedly involved in the killing of one Alex Adanike, 37, on January 15, 2026, at the Iwhrekpokpo area of Ughelli.

    In another operation in Sapele on January 26, CP-SAT operatives stormed a suspected criminal hideout at Irapa area, arresting three suspects identified as Kome Temienoro, 25; Ogaga Omogene, 17; and Biokoro Francis, 42.

    Recovered from the hideout were a wooden-carved pistol, a battle axe, a bulletproof vest, quantities of illicit drugs and other incriminating items, as well as a white Toyota Venza vehicle suspected to have been used for criminal activities.

    Delta police bust criminal networks, nab 12, recover guns, illicit drugs

    The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes in its sustained crackdown on criminal activities across the state, leading to the arrest of twelve (12) suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and large quantities of illicit drugs in two separate, intelligence-led operations.

    Spokesman for the command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bright Edafe, revealed the feat in a statement yesterday.

    Edafe said on January 22, 2026, at about 4:10 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Buffalo Patrol Team, while on routine stop-and-search duty at the Head Bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta states, intercepted a green Toyota Sienna travelling from Anambra State into Delta State.

    He said the occupants of the vehicle, all dressed in mufti, and claimed they were in Delta State to welcome a visiting religious leader.

    However, the spokesman said a thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a cache of concealed weapons, including three (3) pump-action guns, one (1) locally fabricated dane gun, one (1) battle axe, and twenty-six (26) live cartridges.

    He named the suspects arrested in the operation as Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic (male, 62 years), Agbata Mathew (male, 35 years), Osita Chineye (male, 39 years), Favour Peterson (female, 23 years), Prince Tochukwu (male, 32 years) and Clement Nwakwa (male, 51 years).

    He said the suspects had been taken into custody, and investigation is ongoing.

    In a related development, Edafe said on January 20, 2026, at about 1000 hours, operatives of the Ugborikoko Division, under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Setemi Agbede-Zoukumor, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, carried out a targeted operation that led to the uncovering of an organised drug syndicate within the community.

    The spokesman said: “A suspected dealer was initially arrested during the operation. In a dramatic turn of events, the suspect volunteered vital information, which enabled the Police to swiftly trace and arrest six (6) additional suspects believed to be key actors in the drug supply chain.

    “The suspects arrested are: Daniel Ojukwu (male), Rose Otofi (female), Osaro Okosu (male), Maro Ibecham (male), Fregene Victory (male) and Kevwe Irimoni (male).

    “Searches conducted at their respective residences yielded a large cache of illicit drugs and paraphernalia, including fifty-two (52) packs of GM Gold Indian hemp, one (1) pack of Canadian loud, forty (40) packs of Kolorado, sixteen (16) sachets of Swinol, thirty (30) tablets of Tramadol, fifty-two (52) packs of loud, and two (2) crushers, believed to have been used for processing and resale. Investigation is ongoing.”

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr. Aina Adesola, has reiterated that the Command remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks and will continue to deploy proactive and intelligence-led strategies to safeguard lives and property across Delta State.

    He further urged residents to remain law-abiding and to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, assuring them that all information received will be treated with strict confidentiality.

    Delta police restate ban on fireworks, knockouts, other pyrotechnics

    As part of measures to ensure a safe and peaceful Yuletide season, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has reiterated that the ban on fireworks is still in force and will be enforced strictly.

    Abaniwonda said the ban includes the use, sale, and display of pyrotechnics, including fireworks and firecrackers known as ‘knock-out’ and ‘banger’.

    Spokesman for the command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bright Edafe, said in a statement on Thursday that the decision came as part of the ongoing efforts to prevent and reduce crime.

    He said experience had shown that criminally minded persons could take advantage of this to unleash terror on law-abiding residents.

    Edafe advised parents and guardians to caution their children and wards to desist from using these items.

    He also warned retailers to withdraw from the sale of these products, as anyone found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted, and their goods impounded.

    To this end, the spokesman said the CP had directed the DCP Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, all Area Commanders, Divisional Police officers, and Tactical Commanders to monitor strict compliance and address any violations within their respective Areas of Responsibility (AoR).

    “Furthermore, the CP appreciates the cooperation of Deltans in upholding this ban, and citizens are enjoined to always report incidents of the use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station or by calling the command control room numbers: 08036684974; 08114895600 and 08025666914,” SP Edafe said.

    Police arrest suspected kidnappers, cultists, recover arms, vehicle in Delta

    The Delta State Police Command has arrested a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate terrorising the corridors of Delta State and its environs.

    Police spokesman in the state, SP Bright Edafe, revealed in a statement on Monday that operatives recovered one English-made Beretta pistol, one locally-made pistol, one pump action gun, six live cartridges and a Toyota Sienna vehicle from the suspects.

    Shedding light on the feat, Edafe said on November 23, 2025, acting on a distress call regarding a robbery incident along the Asaba–Benin Expressway by Dustbin/Mango Tree area, the Commander, Eagle Net Special Squad, SP Danyaya Inusa, swiftly mobilised surveillance teams of the squad in a coordinated operation with operatives of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, led by DSP Abu Joshua, to the reported scene.

    He said upon arrival, the criminal gang ambushed the operatives with sporadic gunfire, noting that the team, undeterred, responded with controlled precision, overpowering the assailants and forcing them into a disorganised retreat. 

    The spokesman said a fierce chase ensued, which led to the arrest of the following suspects: Oghenemaro Martins, 25, Tarebi Miracle Ogbada, 22, and Okorie James Kalu, 19.

    He revealed, “During the chase, the fleeing suspects abandoned a black bag, which operatives recovered. The contents of the bag directly linked the suspects to the robbery scene and their wider criminal operations. 

    “Recovered items include: one English-made Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, four live 9mm Beretta ammunition, one HP laptop, one iPhone S, one Tecno phone, one Samsung phone, One PS5 game console, two necklaces and one laptop charger.

    “The presence of the firearms and ammunition confirms the gang’s readiness for armed confrontation, while the assorted electronics, jewellery, and PS5 console matched descriptions earlier provided by multiple victims robbed at gunpoint around the Okpanam–Asaba axis.

    “Subsequently, the chain of identification has established a direct nexus between the recovered items, the arrested suspects, and the series of armed robberies under investigation. The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.”

    Also, Edafe said in another intelligence-led operation, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by the Commander, ASP Julius Robinson, recorded success in the fight against cult-related violence within Sapele and Oghara. 

    He indicated that acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of a violent cult group, operatives stormed strategic locations at about 0530hrs on 24th November 2025 and arrested Miracle Umukoro, 52, Mudiaga Ukavwe, 31, Solomon Oghoro aka Spartan, 30.

    He noted, “The suspects, who confessed to be members of the Aye Confraternity, were arrested with the following exhibits recovered: One pump-action gun, six live cartridges, one cutlass, one Toyota Sienna vehicle, Reg. No. LSR 621 JW, allegedly used by the syndicate for surveillance and operational logistics. 

    “All suspects are in custody. The recovered arms and the vehicle have been registered as exhibits as investigations continue to unmask other members of the cult network and dismantle their operational structure.”

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has commended the operatives for their resilience, courage, and tactical precision in both operations.

    He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and any form of violent crime, assuring residents that the police would remain unrelenting in delivering a safe and secure Delta State.

    Police arrest suspected serial murderer, pastor nabbed for rape in Delta

    The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected serial killer and prison escapee in the state.

    The command also declared that its operatives have arrested a Pastor based in Sapele over allegations of defilement, rape, and sexual assault.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.

    Shedding light on the arrests, Edafe said, “On the 24th of October 2025, the DPO Agbor received a complaint that one Michael Ezenwai was trying to sell a suspected stolen phone.

    “The DPO swiftly mobilized operatives to the scene and immediately arrested the suspect. Upon interrogation, the suspect claimed that he brought the phone from Libya.

    “Later that same day, the phone rang, and the caller stated that the phone belonged to her sister, Christabel Egedefe.

    “Upon the strength of this information, the DPO and his team proceeded to the house of the said Christabel and discovered her dead in her apartment.

    “At the point, the suspect confessed to the murder of the victim (Christabel Egedefe), aged 26, and initially lied that the father of the deceased had asked him to do it.”

    The spokesman said upon further interrogation, the suspect changed his statement, saying that he was only trying to indict the father of the victim.

    Edafe said the suspect thereafter stated that he went on a robbery operation at her house on the 23rd of October 2025, and murdered her when she refused to let go of her motorcycle keys, and also made away with her mobile phones.

    He said preliminary investigation later revealed that the suspect is a serial murderer and was part of the syndicate that raped and murdered Uwaila Omorzua, a 200-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), who was murdered in the church when she went to study in 2020.

    “The suspect further stated that he escaped from the Oko correctional centre during the EndSARS 2020 jailbreak. The suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing,” the spokesman stated.

    Also speaking of the suspected rapist pastor, Edafe said on October 13, 2025, the command received a complaint via petition against a pastor of Omega Prophetic Prayer Ministry based in Sapele, on allegations of defilement, rape, and sexual assault.

    He stated: “On the strength of this petition, the Commissioner of Police detailed the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate.  On the 17th of November, the suspect, identified as Pastor Daniel Ololo, was arrested on his church premises.

    “Investigation revealed that the pastor allegedly used a fake prophecy to lure vulnerable church members to his church office, coerce them into believing that if he did not have sex with them, they would not be delivered.”

    Edafe said further investigation revealed that he had carnal knowledge of three sisters of the same mother who are his church members (names withheld).

    He stated that the last victim is 17 years old. According to him, the suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

    The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its relentless fight against the trafficking of illicit arms and ammunition.

    A statement on Saturday by the Command’s spokesman SP Bright Edafe said that acting on credible intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested a female suspect, one Jamila Abubakar, at Conoil Filling Station, Warri–Patani Road, Effurun.

     Edafe said upon her arrest, officers discovered a cash sum of ₦550,000 neatly concealed beneath her bag, suspected to be proceeds from illicit transactions.

    The spokesman said Abubakar’s apprehension provided a crucial lead that set off a well-coordinated follow-up operation.

    He stated that building on that intelligence, the operatives stormed Niger-Cat area of Warri, where they successfully arrested a notorious arms peddler, one Ahmed Ibrahim (male, 31), of Ekpan, Uvwie LGA, at about 0725 hours on 22nd October, 2025.

    Edafe said a search led to the recovery of a bag containing 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.

    He asserted: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a key supplier of weapons to bandit groups in the North and has long been on the Command’s watch list for his alleged role in several high-profile kidnapping and armed-robbery operations.

    “He is also linked to the kidnap and murder of one Ogheneovo Onemu (female), who was abducted on 17th May 2024 at Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North LGA, and later killed despite the payment of a ₦4,000,000 ransom.”

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, described the breakthrough

    as another testament to the Command’s unwavering commitment to stemming the flow of illegal arms, dismantling criminal syndicates, and bringing offenders to justice.

    He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to identify and neutralise all networks involved in illicit weapons across the State.

    The CP also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to aid the fight against crime.

    He assured the public that the Command would sustain its momentum against criminal elements and remain resolute in protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding citizens.

    Police nab suspected notorious drug baron in Delta

    Delta Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious drug baron in Delta State, Onos Afokoghene, 

     has highlighted the ongoing efforts by Nigeria Police to combat drug trafficking in the State.

    Operatives from the Orerokpe Division apprehended the 37-year-old following a tip-off during a patrol led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Paul Oboware, targeting a hotspot in the Jeddo Community. 

    According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, Afokoghene, known for distributing hard drugs in Warri and nearby areas, attempted to escape upon the police’s approach. 

    However, he said the skilled team was able to quickly close in on him, resulting in his arrest after a brief chase. 

    He said this incident underscored the police’s commitment to addressing drug-related crimes and enhancing community safety. 

    Edafe noted that “a thorough search of the scene led to a startling discovery of illicit substances and paraphernalia used in large-scale drug sales.

    “Exhibits recovered include the following: 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24 litres of soaked weed suspected to be Indian Hemp in dry gin (locally known as “monkey tail”), several sachets of Tramadol of various milligrams, and two (2) POS machines suspected of being used for drug sales.

    “The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to uncover his network of distributors and buyers.”

    In another show of vigilance and tactical precision, according to the statement, operatives of the ‘C’ Division Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, intercepted 400 live cartridges carefully concealed within a bus that was heading to Edo State.

    The statement said: “On 16th October 2025, at about 1200hrs, while conducting routine surveillance and stop-and-search operations at the Head Bridge, Asaba, the operatives flagged down a Toyota Hiace Hummer Bus with registration number NGK 16 XB, driven by one Ozoemenam Sylvanus.

    “The driver, appearing uneasy during questioning, drew the suspicion of the officers who proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle.

    “Their instinct paid off; four hundred (400) live cartridges were discovered carefully concealed within the bus.

    “The suspect initially lied that it was padlocks but was left speechless when the parcel was open and the true content was seen.

    “The suspect was immediately arrested, and both he and the exhibit recovered while investigation to unravel the source, and criminal network behind the illegal arms movement is ongoing.”

    The Delta State Police Command under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has again recorded another achievement in the fight against crime and criminality as operatives of the CP Special Assignment team and Safe Delta operatives in three different operations arrested suspected cultists, armed robbers and recovered their firearms.

    The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, said in a statement yesterday that operatives acting on credible intelligence busted cult-related activities within Ibusa Town.

    He said on September 10, operatives of CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) trailed and arrested one Oluwatobi Olugbemi, 29, a native of Ikenne – Remo community in Ijebu-Ode LGA of Ogun State residing in Ibusa.

    He said Olugbemi is suspected of being associated with cult activities linked to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, known as “Arrow Barger.”

    He said a Beretta pistol with one round of ammunition was recovered from his residence during the execution of a search warrant, stressing that investigation is ongoing.

    The police spokesman also confirmed the arrest of Raphael Chukwuemeka, 23, during an altercation where he was found in possession of a cut-to-size double-barrelled pistol and seven live cartridges.

    He said the suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

    Edafe also said operatives arrested Solomon Offor (22), Ifesinachi Nwankeze (19), and Ambrose Ugwuba (23) during a stop and search operation.

    He said upon their interception, a locally made single-barrelled cut-to-size gun, cartridges, and a dagger were recovered from their possession.

    All suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing, he stated.

    The spokesman noted that those arrests indicated a proactive approach by law enforcement to combat the issues of cultism and armed criminal activities in the state.

    He said the recovery of firearms and the identification of suspects linked to cults and armed robbery represent ongoing challenges to community safety that authorities are addressing through increased surveillance and targeted operations.

    Edafe disclosed that the cases would likely lead to further investigations into the broader networks involved in such activities.

    Father, stepmother arrested over death of three siblings in Delta

    Delta State Police have arrested a father and a stepmother after three siblings died during a visit to their father in his house, it was learnt.

    The couple lives at the Delta Steel Housing Complex, Township 1, Orhuwhorun in Udu Local Government Area.

    It was learnt that the sisters who live apart from their father occasionally visited and that the father remarried after their mother died.

    The incident shocked the community, especially as it comes less than a year after the death of their sisters’ mother.

    A source said: “Their father remarried shortly after their mother’s passing, with the stepmother reportedly being a close friend of the deceased.”

    The sisters allegedly returned from a birthday party the previous day to their father’s residence only to be found dead the folowing day.

    Delta State Police Command image maker, Edafe Bright, a Superintendent, who confirmed the incident said: “We are treating this as a suspicious death and are exploring all angles. The public will be updated as we make progress.”
