Rising Nollywood actor Denola Grey has expressed his views on the institution of marriage, while criticising the pressure parents place on their children to settle down.

During a recent podcast, Grey did not mince words as he described marriage as a recent form of slavery while querying why many parents, who themselves are reportedly unhappy in their marriages, are so insistent on their children following the same path.

“I don’t know why they are so obsessed with marriage when most of them are not even happy in their marriage, especially the older generation,” Grey stated. “And I’m like, so you want me to just meet someone, marry them, and just be managing them? I hate slavery.”

Grey, known for his roles in various Nollywood productions and his fashion sense, further confessed his preference for freedom over the conventional marital commitment.

Media personality Denola Grey has spoken out against the pressure African parents put on their children to get married.

Denola believes that many marriages are unfulfilling and likened them to “slavery”, expressing his desire to wait for a partner he truly loves, rather than tolerating someone just to appease societal expectations.

He stated this in a recent interview on ‘DressedToConfess‘ podcast. 

He questioned why older generations are so fixated on marriage, suggesting that many of them are not happy in their own marriages.

According to him: ‘’When will you marry? When will you fix your marriage? How about that? I don’t know why they are so obsessed with marriage because a lot of them are not in happy marriages, especially like the older generation.

“I’m like so you want me to just meet someone, marry them and just be managing them. Like, I hate slavery”.

Media personality and model, Denola Grey, has advised Nigerian men against being oppressive, misogynistic, sexist, and homophobic.

Taking to his X account, Denola urged his gender to stop oppressing and demeaning Nigerian women and the LGBTQ community.

According to him, their lives would be so much better if they abandoned their wicked ways and put an end to their prejudice against women.

He wrote: “Nigerian men, we really need to do better. I swear your life will feel better if you’re not an oppressive, misogynistic, sexist, homophobic a.hole.”
