    BREAKING: Tinubu swears in Akawor as Commissioner of the RMAFC

    President Bola Tinubu has sworn-in Ambassador Desmond Akawor as a Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

    Ambassador Akawor, who was recently screened for the office by the Senate, alongside others, was, until his appointment, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.

    The brief swearing-in ceremony was held just before the commencement of first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of the year, in the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

    Immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, the President presided over the FEC, which has the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume and other members of the cabinet in attendance.

    14 things to know about new commissioner of the RMAFC Desmond Akawor

    President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, January 17, sworn in Ambassador Desmond Akawor as a commissioner of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

    Here are things to know about the new Commissioner of the RMAFC:

    1. Akawor was born to the family of Eze and Lolo Jackson Akawor of Egberu Ndoki on December 1, 1964, in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

    2. He started his primary school education at State Primary School, Egberu Ndoki, and finished at Community Primary School, Okoloma and went between 1974 and 1979.

    3. He proceeded to Ndoki Community Secondary School, Obohia Ndoki.

    4. He obtained in 1988 a Higher National Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering at Federal Polytechnic, Idah, and later on a Master of Business Administration in Project Management.

    5. He was Ambassador of Nigeria to South Korea from 24 April 2008 to 6 August 2015.

    6. Until his appointment by President Tinubu, he was the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.

    7. He was appointed Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, a position he has held since 12 June 2015.

    8. Akawor was the Director-General of the Wike Gubernatorial Campaign Organization.

    9. He was the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State with experience gathered over the years.

    10. Ambassador Akawor was appointed as Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development in 1997 by the then Military Administrator in Rivers State, Col. Musa Shehu.

    11. On recommendation by Sir Dr Peter Odili, Ambassador Akawor was appointed in 1999 by then President Olusegun Obasanjo as the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority and held this position between August 1999 and October 2003.

    12. He also worked at the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) where he brought his wealth of experience to remodel the establishment which at the time was not in good condition.

    13. As Executive Director in charge of Engineering and Technical Services, Ambassador Akawor oversaw the engineering and technical services of the NPA for its day-to-day running.

    14. He was with the Project Development Institute in Enugu from 1987 to 1988 and worked as a foundry technologist in charge of metal casting operations.
