  • ‘I married her despite being told we are incompatible’

After three different clerics revealed we were not compatible, I still married her. Now, I am trapped in a loveless marriage.” These were the words of a 50-year-old trader, Akintoye Oladejo, who is praying the Alakuko Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve his 25-year-old marriage to Folashade. He alleges that she frequently attacks him on trivial issues.

He said: “I have not known peace since I married Folashade. She publicly harasses my female friends because she thinks I am having extramarital affair. I was ashamed when my wife publicly referred to me as a thief for no reason.

“I first brought her case to court in 2009 to formally divorce her because we have been separated for six years but I was prevailed upon to withdraw the case after she agreed to change. Each time I return home with money, my wife steals from it.

“My wife gladly rented out a shop I locked when I was out of town. She doesn’t seek my permission at all. Her attitude disgusts me. Each time my children visit me, she beats them mercilessly. The last time they visited, my wife brought policemen to arrest me. Our second child was in my wife’s care when she got pregnant. How? Who? and where? I still don’t know. She seized our children’s phones saying they would inform me about what was happening in their house.

“After I had spent N80,000 to process our fourth child’s admission into the university, which was successful, my wife stopped him from accepting the admission. So, I want a divorce this time because my wife has refused to change for the better.”

Objecting to the divorce, 44-year-old Folashade said: ”The suffering started when he married another woman. I made a vow not to sleep with him since he married another woman after me. His wanting a divorce is because I refused to sleep with him and this has been like that for eight years. I don’t want our marriage dissolved because my children have no other father.

“Yes, I stole his money and rented out his shop because he doesn’t give us allowance.”

Their first child, who was present, pleaded with the court to settle her parents’ dispute.

The court’s President, Chief Awos Awosola, fixed a chamber discussion for the parties and adjourned the case till October 23, for judgment.

  • Haruna confident despite Cup loss

Dynamo Kiev midfielder Lukman Haruna is still confident ahead of the Ukrainian League campaign which kicks-off this weekend, despite losing in the Super Cup.

League champions Shakhtar Donetsk beat Dynamo 2-0 on Tuesday in the Super Cup and Haruna, who came on as a second half substitute, tells the club site that he feels it is too soon to have concerns ahead of the new season.

“We tried very hard and did everything possible to win the Super Cup, but unfortunately lost. However, this is only the beginning of the season, I believe that this year we will win the championship,” he said.

It’s been five years since Kiev won the League title.

  • Agu, Amadi salute Enyeama despite FIFA’s snub

Agu, Amadi salute Enyeama despite FIFA’s snub

Aloy Agu and Emeka Amadi, former Nigeria goalkeepers, have  hailed the heroics of Super Eagles’ first choice goalie at the Brazil 2014 World Cup, Vincent Enyeama despite not being on the shortlist of the three finalists for FIFA’s Golden Glove award.

Enyeama whose agility kept Nigeria in the tournament until the 2-0 defeat to France in the Round of 16 was overlooked along with America’s Tim Howard who made a record 16-save performance against Belgium in the round of 16.

The three finalists were from teams that advanced to at least the quarterfinals namely, Costa Rica’s Keylor Navas, Germany’s Manuel Neuer and Argentina’s Sergio Romero.

“There is no doubt that  Enyeama would have been picked by FIFA as one of the three best goalkeepers at the World Cup if the Super Eagles had reached at least the quarter finals,” said Agu, a member of Super Eagles’ 1994 AFCON-winning team, who lost his teeth while on duty for Nigeria against Ghana in Kumasi in 1993.

“He did so well in all the  matches he played  but we should not forget that FIFA has indices for picking the best players and goalkeepers at their tournaments. Not picking Enyeama has to do with the fact that the Super Eagles did not progress further than the Round of 16.”

Speaking in the same vein, Amadi, the Golden Eaglets’ goalkeeper trainer who guided Dele Alampasu to win FIFA’s Golden Glove award at the 2013 Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, admitted that Enyeama was one of the best goalkeepers at Brazil 2014.

“We must be proud of what Enyeama did at the World Cup but my favourite for the Golden Glove Award is Neuer and this has nothing to do with the fact that I’d lived in Germany before,” Amadi added.

  • Martins backs Eagles for AFCON glory despite omission

Martins backs Eagles for AFCON glory despite omission

AXED Levante striker Obafemi Martins has tipped Nigeria to win the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The 28-year-old Martins was one of several top stars axed by coach Stephen Keshi from a provisional 32-man squad. ‘Obagoal’ has said he is not disappointed he has been left out of the Nigeria squad to the AFCON next month despite his goals in the Spanish La Liga. He therefore said he believes the Eagles are good enough to land a third Nations Cup trophy in South Africa. “They have a team who are capable of winning the Nations Cup without me. I wish them all the best in South Africa,” said Martins when he visited a hospital in Lagos on behalf of his foundation on Tuesday.

“I will now enjoy my holidays and then return to Spain to focus with my club.” He made a donation of five million Naira (about $31,000) to a Lagos maternity hospital to help offset the bills of mothers who could not afford to do so.

Martins has featured in three AFCONS, in 2006, 2008 and 2010. The former Newcastle and Inter Milan striker has scored six goals in 13 League matches with Levante, who are now sixth on the La Liga table.
