  • Learner-friendly device for teachers, pupils

A software which demystifies learning between pupils and teachers has been demonstrated to heads of schools, proprietors and directors of learning.

Either in school or at home, learners have unfettered access to their teachers or facilitators through a tap on the button on the digital device.

Dynamiss, a digital learning solutions firm, and facilitator of the device tagged ‘LP365, said the software could only be installed on request by interested schools, which eventually get by through a username and a password.

Dynamis Country Director, Lolu Elegbe spoke during a conference tagged: ‘Digital education and IT funding,’ which was held at Classique Events Centre in Oregun, Lagos. The event was organised in conjunction with Microsoft.

Elegbe said the application could be most ideal during emergency.

“For example during the time of Ebola, students who were sent home could have continued their studies at their various homes,” Elegbe said.

According to him, the initiative behind LP365 is to drive digital learning in Africa.  “We know that Nigeria and most of Africa is not where they are supposed to be in terms of digital learning; so we are trying to bridge that gap in terms of where we are and where we are supposed to be.

“We have to make sure that we are sending them (graduates) out with the right digital skills that they need in the global market,” he added.

He said reception by Nigerians to the device has been dramatic.

“(Initially), We had some level of scepticism as we felt Nigeria is not ready, but when we started to tell people what we are doing, why we are doing it and show them the application, the response has been encouraging,” he said.

Elegbe explained that a number of schools have keyed into the initiative, noting that they would not be receptive to more offers.

“It is built specifically for schools so any school can use it no matter how small,” he said.

He continued: “The world is moving too quickly so we need to make digital education a benchmark here. We need to get to the point where we don’t take books but tablets to school and we will need the federal government to make that happen.”

On her part, the firm Head of Sales Angela Oyekanmi, said the software is available at N10,000 per licence.

Device to speed up pupils’ learning ability berths

Imagine your child punching buttons on his digital device and interacting directly with a tutor as if it were a classroom setting; great isn’t it? That is what Video Tutorials is all about.

The Video Tutorials comprises audio visual files which contain lessons on various subjects. The files can be installed on android phones, tablets, and PCs without the rigour of internet connectivity.

Speaking on the sideline of a public lecture to celebrate Educational Advancement Centre’s (EAC) 10th anniversary held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos, last week, Bamgbose said regrettably,  many students continued to fail WAEC and NECO despite that solutions to their challenges are a few steps away.

Once video tutorials are fully optimised, Bamgbose said learners would be enormously rich in knowledge of the respective subjects and would therefore be intellectually equipped enough to challenge their teachers on any knotty areas in class.

“Most Nigerian teachers (especially the graduates) are not necessarily lacking in knowledge; they are only poorly motivated. But when they know that the children will ask challenging questions in class, they will sit up because no teacher wants to look ignorant before his students.”

To make it affordable for all, Bamgbose, a cleric, revealed that the product has been priced as low as N15 naira per lesson.

“Schools can have all the lessons for all subjects installed on their systems for as low as N30000,”he added.

Bamgbose noted that finance has been a major challenge to marketing the product nationwide. Despite this, the product has continued to gain ground wherever they introduce it, Bamgbose added.

Bamgbose recalled that to further raise consciousness on the product, EAC team visited former Minister of Education Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, who regretted that the device was brought to him at the climax of his tenure.

“He (Shekarau) kept shaking his head in regret during that visit! But of course the new minister of education will find records of that meeting. We believe government should be a continuum. You can’t say that you will not follow up on what Shekarau has done because he is no longer minister of education. The Ministry of Education cannot say they don’t know?”

He continued: “We were in Jalingo a few weeks ago, and for two days our staff were besieged at the hotel we lodged because of this product. But we can do so little because we are private, and our resources are limited. But we hope that speaking out at forums like this will make more people aware of the product,” he aded.

He appealed to Nigerian media to come to EAC’s aid by helping to create more awareness as a segment of their corporate social responsibility.

“This is for real, it’s not a gimmick, or copied from anywhere, neither are we using animations.  These are real teachers teaching. We assign the students to automatic Whatsapp groups when they have questions, and allow the students to answer the questions themselves. The teacher only answers when they can’t. The Whatsapp groups are available for every subject. Kids are using these things (social media) for negative things; let’s encourage them to use them for positive things,” Bamgbose concluded.

  • EKSU don invents electronic policing device

A senior academic at the Ekiti State University, (EKSU), Dr Oludare Fagbohun, has invented an electronic policing device to assist security agencies tackle crimes in the country.

Fagbohun who heads the institution’s Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, said the device code named IntPolis is an intelligence-based solution for integrated electronic policing.

He said the device integrates the citizens, law enforcement and governmental agencies, the international community and employers of labour with vast synergy platforms for maintenance of law and order.

Demonstrating the use of the device to our correspondent, Fagbohun urged the government to key into the advantages of the research output, stressing that the only requirement is the political will to maximise the advantages inherent in the invention.

IntPolis consists of platforms for security enhancement, law and order maintenance, compliance to rule monitoring, loopholes blockages, crime and corrupt acts exposure, information scrutiny and record keeping, taxes and levies evasion reduction.

Speaking on its practicability, Fagbohun said: “The device is for use by all citizens for interaction with all security agencies in real time 24/7, to report events or security breaches in their neighbourhood or a call for emergency response from security agencies with verifiable timed and response records.

“It connects all vehicle owners seamlessly to their insurers and relevant monitoring agencies and safeguard against vehicle theft and make claims in accidents automatic.

“Use of vehicles for criminal activities and vehicle theft is curtailed, with a guarantee to a claim if a vehicle is stolen and not recovered within three months.”

Fagbohun further stated that the device works for a scientific responsive society, which affords security benefits, for home security from breaking-in and stealing as well as in-house assassination curtailment aerial surveillance.

He also said the device also has ‘wills and testament deposit and registration platform’ with encryption software to solve many family problems after the demise of their breadwinner.

“The system also allows for civil offences penalty set-up for easy means of correcting its citizens, as well as means of generating more income for security enhancement by government, background checks, conflict monitoring and management, at the press of a button,” Fagbohun added.

  • Cleric unveils new bible device

Bible Technology, a new device for understanding life issues and confronting challenges, has been unveiled in Lagos.

The designer, Apostle Toyin Praise, said the innovation is a

mechanical device, which offers insights into biblical secrets.

Praise told reporters in Lagos that the device will assist the new generation of Christians and political leaders with insights for their assignments.

He defined Bible Technology as the “overt use of a higher or deeper understanding of the word of God.”

Explaining the technicalities of the device, Praise, who is President of the Branch Ministry International, an Apostolic Outreach Ministry in Lagos said it consists of seven pillars, three of which can solve any problem under the sun.

Mentioning the three pillars as Gate, Set and Cast, Praise said gate represents ordering of events from the spiritual realm to the physical.

Gate, according to him, talks about access and barrier. “Anything that constitutes a hindrance, a barrier or an impediment to success or progress in the life of a man or a nation is gate.”

Set, he explained, is the discovery of barriers

and how they could be removed.

Cast, he said, is demystification of all that God has hid away from the world.

He assured that those who use the new device will receive solutions to long-standing problems in all facets of life.

  • Firm introduces life saving device for heart attack

An organisation, Healthpro, has introduced a device, automated defibrillator, to manage heart attacks.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Shade Odebiyi, said the machine is the commonest and fastest means of resuscitating a dying patient, especially those who suffered sudden cardiac arrest because it is capable of delivering a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the heart.

“Defibrillators can be external, transvenous, or implanted, depending on the type of device used or needed. Some external units, known as automated external defibrillators, automate the diagnosis of treatable rhythms, meaning that lay responders or bystanders are able to use them successfully with little or no training at all,” she added.

Odebiyi enjoined people and corporate organisations to take advantage of the equipment, adding that it would reduce cases of sudden deaths from heart attacks.

She said: “The manufacturer, Telefunken, has manufactured special cardioverter defibrillators, a small device that is placed in the chest or abdomen. Doctors use the device to help treat irregular heartbeats called arrhythmias.

“The device uses electrical pulses or shocks to help control life-threatening arrhythmias, especially those that can cause sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).”

She described a sudden cardiac arrest as a condition in which the heart suddenly stops beating. “If the heart stops beating, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. SCA usually causes death if it’s not treated within minutes,”she added.

She added: “Experts had explained that the heart has its own internal electrical system that controls the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat. With each heartbeat, an electrical signal spreads from the top of the heart to the bottom. As the signal travels, it causes the heart to contract and pump blood.

“Each electrical signal normally begins in a group of cells called the sinus node. As a signal spreads from the top of the heart to the bottom, it coordinates the timing of heart cell activity. First, the heart’s two upper chambers, the atria, contract. This contraction pumps blood into the heart’s two lower chambers, the ventricles. The ventricles then contract and pump blood to the rest of the body. The combined contraction of the atria and ventricles is a heartbeat.”
