    Popular actor Deyemi Okanlawon has revealed that he would have been a pastor if he hadn’t taken the acting path. 

    Speaking in a recent interview with Pulse, Okanlawon disclosed that he would have been a Christian cleric if he wasn’t a thespian.

    He said: “I don’t think I can call it a career path, it would have been more of a calling. I think I would have been a pastor (if I wasn’t an actor).”

    Okanlawon clarified that despite playing certain roles in movies, which may portray him as abusive, he vehemently opposes domestic violence. 

    Addressing misconceptions about himself, the actor highlighted the absurdity of rumours suggesting he is “expensive to hire.”

    He, however, added that it isn’t a rumour.

    Filmmaker and actor, Deyemi Okanlawon shared the delightful story of how he met his wife, Damilola, during their university years.

    In an interview with Pulse on the One-on-One show, Deyemi revealed that he and his wife studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Lagos.

    Despite their academic connection, Deyemi said he was initially reluctant to make the first move, hoping that Damilola would initiate the conversation.

    He said he later gathered the courage to approach her, saying that their encounters continued even after they graduated from university.

    He said: “So what happened was, I used to see her with girls that I know because they used to hang out. You know how girls used to hang out in cliques…So they’d be walking down the hallway and I’d be walking towards them and they would stop and I would say hello to every single one of them except my wife because she won’t say hello first.”

    “She get pride pass me, last last, na me still go meet am. We got out of school and because we had the same circle of friends, people were getting married so we were always on bridal trains together. One day, I went to present a cake made my by mum at a wedding she was at; it was her cousin’s wedding.”

    “And her cousin who was my friend said to her “can you please go get something for my friend to eat?” And she couldn’t say no and you could see the look on her face and I was basking in it.”

    “Then about a year later when I was single, we met again. I was working a 9-5 when we married, she got married to me as a working professional. But when we were dating I told her that I felt that there was something for me in acting and by that same year I got an acting gig. And she found herself married to an actor.”

    Seasoned actor Deyemi Okanlawon‘s cinema movie debut, ‘All’s fair in love’ has generated N27 million after its release on February 14, 2024.

    The movie has broken impeccable records as the biggest-ever February opening for a Nollywood film, the highest opening weekend for a Nollywood Romcom, the top-grossing Nollywood film of the weekend and the highest opening weekend for a Nollywood film in 2024, according to an Instagram post shared by Deyemi.

    All’s fair in love,” which premiered on Valentine’s Day, focuses on the intricate relationship between two friends and business associates from Nigeria who become involved in a romantic pursuit of the same woman, played by Buhle Samuels.

    Starring in the popular film are Deyemi Okanlawon, Timini Egbuson, Juliet Ibrahim, Beauty Tukura, Venita Akpofure, Lateef Adedimeji, Gbubemi Ejeye, Kenzy Udonsen, Oprah Okereke, and Timilehin Ojeola.

    Deyemi Okanlawon shared his happiness on his page and thanked his followers.

    He wrote: “Let this be a reminder that whatever you do in this life and in whatever situation you find yourself… never underestimate God and His plans for good towards you! I’m giving all the Glory to Him and Him alone and I thank every one of you family, friends and fans who have shown your love and support… this is our win! Guy’s we’re off to a great start and the #roadto1Billion has only just begun”.

    Following his new feat, congratulatory messages from fans and celebrities flooded his comment section.

    Sharing a screenshot of the credit alert on social media, Deyemi couldn’t help but express his overwhelming emotions.

    He described how Adesua’s gesture almost brought tears to his eyes, emphasising her kindness and the impact it had on him.

    In his heartfelt message, Deyemi chose to focus on the immense appreciation he felt for having such amazing friends and colleagues.

    Filmmaker and actor Deyemi Okanlawon has publicly reaffirmed love and commitment to wife and mother of his kids, Damilola Okanlawon.

    Taking to his Instagram page to share photos from her maternity shoot, he described her his wife, his woman and his partner.

    Deyemi Okanlawon admitted that he is still a work in progress and marriage is not the easiest. 

    He noted whenever his head is correct, he still chooses her every single time.

    Actor and producer, Deyemi Okanlawon has narrated the mixed feelings and process of producing his latest movie ‘All’s Fair in Love’.

    As a seasoned actor turned producer, Okanlawon delved into the challenges and triumphs of bringing his new movie to the big screen.

    In an interview with Hip TV, he explained that, despite being in the film industry for 11 years, taking on the job of a producer allowed him to see a different side of himself and have a better understanding of the industry.

    Deyemi Okanlawon said: “It felt like labour, I thought I understood the film industry until I started producing… my eyes saw Shege Promax Ultra, It shock me, it stretched me… But I will do it over again, it was the most exhilarating experience of my life. I found new skills and new creative muscle that I had no idea I had.”

    He also revealed that the church was his first encounter with acting, which finally led to his first engagement.

    “I had no plans to go into professional acting, it was just ministry.. random conversation with someone led to, oh there is an audition somewhere and I went and I got two roles from two different projects from one audition… and my next project came after that.”

    Actor Deyemi Okanlawon has said that he has never won any prestigious award in Nigeria despite being in the movie industry for a very long time.

    The new father of three said despite not being recognised by award organisers in the country, he has remained focused, stressing that he is fond of encouraging himself.

    According to the thespian, if an award comes, he would accept it but he won’t allow the validation of awards to define him.

    Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, Okanlawon said: “I have never won any of the serious awards in Nigeria. I have been around [in the entertainment industry] for long enough that if I were the type of person to feel a certain way, I would have been like, ‘Why had I not been awarded this or that?’

    “The truth is, I can look into my mirror and congratulate myself. I have done this all my life. And if recognition or validation comes from somewhere else, I will take it graciously. In fact, I had to learn to take compliments instead of deflecting them. Validation shouldn’t define you. If anything, my presence should validate an award, not the other way round.”

    Actor Deyemi Okanlawon and his lovely wife, Damilola, have joyously welcomed their third child, a baby boy.

    Deyemi revealed this via his Instagram page with a video of him on FaceTime with his wife and their newborn.  

    In a touching message to his wife, Deyemi praised her as the love of his life and the epitome of strength, thanking her for bringing their most cherished blessings into the world.

    Expressing his deep affection, he warmly welcomed his son and vowed to provide him with the best life and fatherly love.

    Deyemi Okanlawon, who was present at the wedding ceremony, expressed his joy for his friend and wife.

    Deyemi took to the microblogging platform, X, to pray for his close friend, his wife, and every other person who falls in love with and chooses a spouse in the public space.
