  • MASSOB faction disowns Bianca’s endorsement

The Uchenna Madu-led faction of the Movement for Actualisation of the Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB) has denied endorsing Bianca Ojukwu for the Senate in 2019.

The group was reacting to Bianca’s endorsement by the Ralph Uwazuruike-led faction.

Bianca hopes to contest for the Anambra South seat on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The group said Uwazuruike, who reportedly declared support for Bianca, is not the leader of MASSOB, and cannot represent the group, whose primary objective is for Biafra actualisation and restoration.

A statement by Madu said: “The leadership of MASSOB dissociates itself from the falsehood that it is supporting the senatorial ambition of Iyom Bianca Ojukwu.

“As the foremost Biafran self-determination movement, MASSOB can never allow its name, integrity and public trust to be dragged into the disgraceful mud of Nigeria politics.

“We have never met or consulted with Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu’s widow on her senatorial ambition, which is being sponsored by enemies of Ndigbo.

“Political representation of Ndigbo is not about compensation, personal likeness or favour. Bianca Ojukwu can never be compensated with Igbo political representation in Abuja because of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

“Bianca Ojukwu is not Ojukwu whose eloquent, radical and selfless Igbo interest has no boundary. You can’t equate Bianca with Ojukwu. Igbo political representation is for Igbo men with eloquent, radical, fearless and Igbotic tendencies.

“Adding Bianca Ojukwu to the 15 Igbo senators in Abuja will never bring any positive or progressive change to Ndigbo.”

Madu added that what the Igbo race needs are vibrant, radical, people-oriented fighters to revive and re-establish its true political nature.

  • NLC disowns new coalition

THE Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has denied ever endorsing the newly formed coalition,  Grand National Coalition of National Intervention Movement.

In a statement,  its National President,  Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said: “I have found it necessary to issue an immediate and emphatic rebuttal to the story by the Sahara Reporters that I, Ayuba Wabba, mni, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress has endorsed or was part of a meeting that endorsed the Grand National Coalition (GNC) of the National Intervention Movement.”

He said there is a clear procedure for affiliating, endorsing or consorting with any social or political group outside the NLC.

“To the best of my knowledge, the issue of affiliating, endorsing or consorting with NIM was not debated in any of our organ meetings or the Labour Party.

“This is without prejudice to the right of any individual or individuals to exercise in their favour, the right of freedom of association as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended),” Ayuba said.

Ayuba said  in spite of his respect for the individuals, who attended the said meeting, he has not been attending the meetings of NIM.

Authorities of the Oduduwa University at Ipetumodu (OUI) in Osun State have disowned four students in detention at Ilesha prison for alleged possession of firearms and membership of a prohibited secret cult group.

A statement by OUI said the suspects had ceased to be students of the institution since June, last year.

The four suspects were arrested over possession illegal of fire arms and cultism had claimed to be students of the university.

According to a statement by the institution, OUI has zero tolerance for cultism, hence the need to expel the suspected students after they were indicted for allegedly causing atrocities in the institution.

The statement said authorities of OUI set up a committee for sustenance of peace within the institution and its environs due to the closeness of the university to a motor park.

It said: “The university is keen to the provision of security on the campus and secured the combined service of men of the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to maintain peace and order in the university.

  • Division in MASSOB over Biafra independence day celebration

Division in MASSOB over Biafra independence day celebration

The Uchenna Madu-led Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has disowned today’s Biafra celebration announced by the Ralph Uwazuruike-led faction.

The Madu-led group said it was wrong to celebrate Biafra independence on May 22, when the still-born republic was declared on May 30, 1967, adding that it has completed arrangements for its celebration on May 30.

A statement by Madu reads: “The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB) has reiterated its solemn oath for the actualisation and restoration of an independent Republic of Biafra.

We reassure the people of Biafra that the actualisation and restoration of Biafra is sacrosanct and sacred. Every aspect of Biafra struggle must abhor deceit, self-glorification, tribal/religious sentiments, and love for mundane things.”MASSOB declares full and total support for the sit at home on May 30, to honour our gallant Biafra soldiers and civilians who sacrificed their lives for us.

“MASSOB declares full and total support for the sit at home on May 30, to honour our gallant Biafra soldiers and civilians who sacrificed their lives for us.

“We must continue to remember, honour and celebrate the gallantry and bravado of the Biafra soldiers, whom the world was astonished for their military exploits during the Nigeria/ Biafra war. Their bravery, military excellence, consistency, technological exploits and intelligences can never be forgotten or silenced.

“MASSOB wishes to inform the people that we don’t have any Biafra anniversary program today; our anniversary is on May 30, which is Biafra day.

“The sit at home calls for sober reflection on the way forward; it calls for individual and family prayers for speedy actualisation and restoration of Biafra. It will also reflect on building synergy and cohesion among the pro-Biafra groups in preparation for the coming referendum.

“We also reiterate our earlier position that we are not attached to any group called Biafra Independent Movement (BIM). MASSOB is not BIM and BIM can never be MASSOB. MASSOB collaborates and works with other genuine pro-Biafra groups like IPOB, Lower Niger Congress, Eastern Peoples Congress, Biafra Peoples National Council, Joint Revolutionary Council and AFRA Descendants.”

  • Southeast group disowns Amnesty’s report

A GROUP, the South-East Restoration Group (SERG), has faulted reports by Amnesty International alleging extra-judicial killings in the Southeast by security agents.

It said  contrary to such claims, the presence of the army has instead rid the region of criminal activities such as kidnapping and armed robbery.

Addressing reporters in Enugu, SERG National Co-ordinator, Charles Mbani, said the group took time to review the claims made in the amnesty international report and decided to clarify some of the misconceptions contained in it.

He described as a misconception the idea that the IPOB represents genuine voice of the Igbo people, adding that persons of Igbo ethnicity that are not involved in breaking laws go about their legitimate businesses without  hindrance from any agency, let alone the Army.

According to him, “the IPOB is just one of the many entities that have emerged to make monetary gains from the agitation for restructuring, with members that in violation for the deep-seated Igbo respect for the sanctity of life, have been involved in killing people that they buried in secret mass graves. They have been involved in killing security operatives and throwing some into the river in the name of holding protests.”

  • Militancy: N/Delta Council disowns MEND, Avengers

The Supreme Niger Delta Youth Council Worldwide (SNDYCW) has disowned the Niger Delta Avengers and the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), describing their activities as pure armed robbery

The President General of the Council, Prince Michael Newgent Eaton, who stated this when the council, under the guidance of former Senate president, Mr Joseph Wayas, met with the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kaduna on Thursday, stated that members of the MEND group and the NDA should be arrested and prosecuted.

Ekamon said they were in Kaduna to meet with leaders and elders of the region who have served the country well and want to see that the country remain as one indivisible entity.

“Our group is not militant group. We are here to see how we can build one Nigeria. We want to condemn the activities of the Avengers and MEND. They are criminals. But better put, armed robbers who are stealing the wealth of our land.

“We know them. We know that some of the Avengers have served in the previous government and they are even serving in this present government.

“If we are given the mandate, we will go and confront them in their houses.  So, we don’t want President Buhari to be deceived by their antics. There is nothing in the real sense like avengers. They are playing planks.”

The President stated further that the problem in the region was not the problem of the Federal government, but that of the region’s leaders who have been sabotaging the region because of their greed.

“What is it that the Federal Government has not done for the region? We have OMPADEC, NDDC, 13 percent derivation, Ministry for Niger Delta, security votes. We don’t know what our governors are doing with the security votes.”

He said that it was based on this premise that the group was planning to hold a summit in Edo State between the 27th and 29th of October to discuss the problem in the region.

“We are here to extend our hands of friendship to the people in this region and to seek their blessing and support. That’s why we are here with the former Senate President Joseph Wayas who has never been invited by any anti corrupt agency. We also have the blessing of former Head of state, General Gowon.”

Responding, the chairman of the ACF, Ibrahim Coomasie, who was represented by Musa Liman, observed that the two regions have sustained a long period of friendship, adding the forum believes in the doctrine of one Nigeria where justice and equity prevail.

  • Oyo APC disowns Alao-Akala

    Oyo APC disowns Alao-Akala

The All Progress Congress (APC) in Oyo State has disowned former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.

Alao-Akala on Tuesday announced that he had joined the APC.

But the party said yesterday that “the news was received with shock because APC is not aware that he (Alao-Akala) had joined the party”.

The party’s Director of Publicity, Olawale Sadare, described the news as very strange, adding that “we do not know Alao-Akala as far as Oyo APC is concerned”.

Sadare said: “He is not in APC, however if he wants to join APC he is welcome. Let him join from the ward level. That is how it is done.

“It is very strange to us. We are not aware of his political moves. Here in Oyo APC, we don’t know him. He should start from the ward level and progress from there.”

But the former governor said some people in the APC were jittery because of his entry into the party.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Abraham Ojo, he said: “Alao-Akala did not only embrace the APC in a more celebrated way, but directed all his followers to return to their local governments and wards to register.

“Whether or not they like it Alao-Akala is a big fish. May be they are jittery that he is coming on board. For him to have made a public declaration that he has joined the APC, he would have spoken with party leaders.

“They should go and confirm. They should not be playing politics of animosity. If somebody of Alao-Akala’s status should come and make a public declaration that he has joined the APC and the Director of Publicity or anyone else is saying the party doesn’t know him, then he must be acting out of ignorance.”

  • Alaibe disowns planned protest

    Alaibe disowns planned protest

The campaign organisation of former Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Managing Director, Chief Timi Alaibe, of Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress (APC), has dissociated itself from a planned protest against last Tuesday’s primary of the party.

A text message circulated in Yenagoa, the state capital, by a member of the organisation, Mr. Patterson, said some people, allegedly sponsored by Alaibe’s detractors, had printed T-shirts in his name to protest in Abuja and Yenagoa.

He said: “It has come to the notice of the Timi Alaibe Campaign Organisation that certain groups have printed T-shirts and vests in the name of Alaibe and are planning to stage violent protests in Yenagoa and at the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja.

“We dissociate ourselves from such protests and call on the public, security agencies and the national leadership of the APC to please take note.”

  • Oyo PDP disowns group

    Oyo PDP disowns group

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has restated its loyalty to the National Working Committee (NWC), led by the acting National Chairman, Uche Secondus.

It described a statement by a group, Oyo State PDP Like Minds, as irresponsible, self-serving and needless.

The party discredited the claim that the hijack of the party structure and imposition of unpopular candidates forced some people out of the party and led to its dismal performance in the last general elections.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kehinde Salawu, the PDP said the attack on Secondus’ leadership by the group was not in the interest of the PDP.

Salawu said the signatories to the statement are “self-conceited anti-PDP politicians and spent forces who are seeking relevance”.

He said the group should have learnt a lesson from its disgraceful outing at the Post-Election Review Sub-committee chaired by former Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, where its stand was condemned.

The PDP spokesman added that the party’s doors remained open to any member who might want to return.

He assured that equity and fairness would continue to remain the party’s hallmarks.
