  • Nguroje bags Doctorate degree

    Former Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Babangida Nguroje has promised to intensify efforts towards expanding his philanthropic base to the benefit of the less privileged and disadvantaged. Nguroje made this commitment yesterday when he was awarded a Doctorate Degree in Philanthropic Management by the board of Freedom University and Theological Seminary, Pottstown, United States of America (African Campus) in Abuja .

    Nguroje, who was also the former Chairman Governing Board of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission NIPC, dedicated the award to the less privileged in the society. He noted that the award will spur him to do more for the sake of humanity . According to him ” to whom much is given, much is expected, therefore this award which is in recognition of my Philanthropic activities has placed more responsibilities on my shoulders and I shall work assiduously to touch more lives in a very positive manner”.

    The NIPC board chairman  stressed that such honours are meant to serve as encouragement  and charged fellow awardees to take this gesture seriously. He also stressed that, “I feel extremely humbled that I’m singled out of many for this award. I give thanks to the management of this reputable university and above all I thank God Almighty for this day”. Also at the event were the speaker of the House of Representatives , Honourable Yakubu Dogara who charged the university to strive for excellence with an assurance that he would be willing to support the institution in anyway possible .

  • CAC chair gets Adeleke Varsity’s doctorate degree

    Renowned businessman and Chairman of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Prince Dapo Abiodun, has bagged the Doctor of Science in Business Development and Administration (Honorary Causa) of the Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State.

    According to a letter from the university, dated May 15, the awardee will be honoured on July 22 during the university’s fourth convocation ceremony.

    “The university congratulates you as you identify with its alumni, sharing your wealth of experience and knowledge for the growth of Adeleke University,” the letter said.

    Accepting the award, Abiodun, who is also the Chairman of Heyden Petroleum Limited, noted that it was a call for him to do more in the service of humanity.

  • OOU confers doctorate degree on Aig-Imoukhuede

    Chairman of Coronation Capital Limited, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, has been conferred with a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Honoris Causa by the Governing Council of Olabisi Onabajo University (OOU), Ogun State.

    The institution said it conferred the honorary degree on the former CEO of Access Bank in acknowledgement of his contributions to national and societal development.

    Speaking at the 27th convocation ceremony of the university, a former Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof (Mrs) Mbang Femi-Oyewo, who presented Aig-Imoukhuede to the institution’s Governing Council for degree conferment noted “the University only confers its honorary degrees on deserving and outstanding individuals, who are exemplary in their endeavours and have shown strength of character.”

    She added that “as a symbol of the university‘s recognition of Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede’s contributions to nation building and sustainable development, as well as our association with his vast achievements in the different facets of human endeavours, the university has found him worthy of its Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Honoris Causa”.

    Aig-Imoukhuede is also founder of the Africa Initiative for Governance (“AIG”), a not-for-profit organisation, established as a catalyst for high public sector performance; bringing leadership, funding and private sector innovation in a private-public partnership to attract, inspire and support future leaders of the public sector.

    In addition to his law degrees, Aig-Imoukhuede holds a Trium MBA, jointly awarded by the London School of Economics, New York University and HEC Paris.

    Dangote to receive TASUED’s doctorate degree

    African leading business mogul and  President of Dangote Group of Industries, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, will, on Saturday, be conferred with the honorary doctorate degree of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.

    In a letter addressed to Dangote dated November 3, TASUED management said the award received unanimous approval of the Senate and Governing Council of the university. It said the honour was in recognition of Dangote as a “leading African entrepreneur, builder of people and institutions, unmatched philanthropist and lover of education”.

    Dangote, in a response dated November 17,  signed by his Honorary Adviser, Mr. J. O. Makoju, and addressed to the Vice Chancellor of TASUED, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade, accepted the award.

    He thanked the members of TASUED’s Senate and Governing Council for the honour and described TASUED as a “highly reputable university”.

    The world-class business guru, who will be honoured with the late matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief  HID Awolowo, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, at the 10th anniversary and Sixth and Seventh convocation, said he was  honoured to be in company of illustrious eminent Nigerians like  “former President, General Olusegun Obasanjo and our revered matriarch, the late Chief  H.I.D Awolowo”.

    He also congratulated the university: “We want to use this opportunity to commend the university for the achievements made in just a decade and to wish you a successful convocation ceremony.”

    Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said the award of Doctor of Science Education in Political Science to him by the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, is an honour to his workers.

    TASUED, on November 28, will hold its 10th anniversary and 2015 convocation ceremonies when Obasanjo will be honoured with the degree.

    In a letter written to the university’s management, the former President “thanked the Senate and  Governing Council of the Universityfor the honour”.

    The letter reads: “I received your letter of November 3, 2015, by which you confirmed the decision of the Governing Council and the Senate of Tai Solarin University of Education to confer on me an HonouraryDoctoral Degree awarrd of Doctor of Science Education in Political Science at the 10th anniversary of the University on November 28, 2015.

    “I feel highly honoured by the kind sentiments expressed in your letter, and the kind gesture, which I accept with pleasure. I want to thank the Senate and the university’s Governing Council for the honour done me. This award is not only to honour me but it is also an award for all the great men and women who have worked tirelessly with me in all the undertakings I have had in my life.”

    The Director of Press and Information at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Dr. Akande Aweneri Festus, was among the graduands conferred with the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the 44th convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka last month. He has, by this feat, ranked among the first set of PhD holders in Public Relations in Nigeria; a programme pioneered in Africa by the University of Nigeria.

    Dr. Akande, a graduate of Mass Communication, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, MSc Degree in Public Relations and MBA Degree in Marketing from University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also has a BSc (Hons) Degree in Marketing from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).  He bagged the Chartered Professional Certificate and Diploma in Public Relations from Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and Business Education Examinations Council in 1990 and 1992 respectively. A Journalist, Public Relations Practitioner and Teacher of over 25 years, Dr. Akande had been involved in the training of Journalists and Public Relations practitioners in Lagos State University (LASU), Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Times Journalism Institute, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations School (NIPR); and was the pioneer Director of Lagos Public Relations Academy (LAPRA).

    Dr. Akande also worked with the now defunct Abuja News Day Newspapers (the first print mediumin the Federal Capital Territory), Nigerian Tide Newspapers (Rivers State Publishing Corporation), and TELL Magazine, where he rose to management cadre. He also established the Special Project Unit of FAME Magazine in Lagos. He is an accomplished Speech Writer, Public Speaker and Author of robust international repute, having to his credit the following books: In-Road into Public Relations; Contemporary Media Relations Management; Effective Speech Writing and Public Speaking; Principles and Techniques of Public Relations; Application of Industrial Psychology and Sociology to Public Relations Management; Public Relations Strategy in International Marketing; International Public Relations Management; Dance of a Dead Man; Fela Anikulapo-Kuti: The Man, The Myth and The Mystery; Darkness At Noon (which was published in United States (US) and got the certification of the Library of Congress); among others. He has also published many research papers in different International Academic Journals and co-authored several monographs in the United Kingdom (UK) and the US respectively.
