Cholera Outbreak: Company donates drugs to Ebonyi govt

As the Ebonyi State government continues to combat a cholera outbreak, Reals Pharmaceutical Limited has donated its innovative Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) product, Electrorush, to assist the state’s efforts.

The company stated that the donation is part of its corporate social responsibility and will aid in managing those affected by the disease.

Ade Popoola, the Managing Director of Reals Pharmaceutical, donated to the State Ministry of Health in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Ebonyi has been grappling with a cholera outbreak that has claimed over 17 lives and hospitalized more than 69 people, prompting urgent action from the state government.

Represented by Mr. Lucky Uwajei, a company staff member, the MD emphasized that Electrorush is the first ready-to-drink ORS product ever produced and is crucial in the treatment and management of cholera patients.

While commending the state government on the efforts it has made in managing and combating the outbreak, the company noted that the donation of the drug is its support to the state government’s efforts in managing and reducing the impact of the outbreak.

He said: “In line with our commitment to supporting public health initiatives, Reals Pharmaceutical Limited is pleased to offer a substantial donation of Electrorush, the first ready-to-drink oral rehydration solution (ORS) in Nigeria.

“We understand the vital importance of rehydration in the treatment of cholera, particularly in preventing dehydration associated with acute diarrhoea.

“Electro rush is particularly formulated to provide immediate hydration and assist in recovery during diarrhoea episodes, making it an essential resource in this challenging time.

“We look forward to collaborating with your office and the director of Pharmaceutical Services to ensure that these donations effectively reach the communities most impacted by the outbreak”

Receiving the donations, the Commissioner for Health, Moses Ekuma noted that the outbreak came in a serious magnitude than the state had witnessed in the past.

“Ebonyi state is in a difficult period because of the outbreak of cholera. It just came suddenly. Of course, we have been witnessing such in the past but this year it came in a bigger magnitude.

“But thanks to the plans the state government had in place and working with other partners we have pushed it back”

“This drink is very important because one problem we have with is that either it is over diluted or under diluted or either of those is not good. After all, it must cause some problems. But this Electrorush is wonderful because you don’t need any dilution again, you just open and drink”, he said.

Dogowa to Kwankwaso: Stop hallucinating, Tinubu laying foundation for a better Nigeria

Former leader of the House of Representatives and chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was laying the foundation for a better and more prosperous Nigerian nation.

Doguwa was reacting to a statement credited to the presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 elections that Nigerians will vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 polls.

Kwankwaso, while speaking at a political gathering in Kano on Thursday, said Nigerians, especially northerners, are tired of the APC and would change it in the 2027 presidential election.

He said since taking over the affairs of the country over 16 months ago, President Tinubu has been working genuinely to correct the fiscal misalignments, the bane of the country’s economic downturn.

The former House leader who is also the Leader of the Northern caucus in the House said Kwankwaso was yet to recover from the defeat he suffered during the 2023 presidential election thereby hallucinating about the 2027 elections.

Doguwa said Kwankwaso should stop the hallucinations and face his imminent retirement from the political scene in 2027.

He said: “At a political gathering on Thursday, my colleague in the House of Representatives in the 3rd Republic, Kwankwaso, took his hallucination to the moon when he said Nigerians are tired of APC and will change it in 2027. As we all know, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not leaving any stone unturned in his quest to return our country to the path of progress and prosperity for the benefit of all.”

According to him, President Tinubu took over the mantle of leadership in the country 16 months ago when the economy was in terrible shape in all spheres.

Doguwa stressed that Under President Tinubu, the country has attracted foreign direct investments worth more than $30 billion in 16 months.

He said President Tinubu has paid a forex backlog of $7 billion and cleared the ways and means of over N30 trillion he inherited from the last administration.

“President Tinubu reduced the debt service ratio from 97 to 68 per cent and kept our foreign reserve at $37 billion. Only this week, the Economic Stabilisation Bills have been transmitted to us in the National Assembly to stimulate our productive capacity and create more jobs and prosperity in the country,” he said.

Speaking on security, he said the government has eliminated over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders, including Kachalla Halilu Sububu, who terrorised the people in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna for over five years.

Doguwa said: “Fresh air is already permeating the North West in view of the onslaught against these bandits. Our people are now returning to their farms. We pray for a bumper harvest. We are also grateful to Mr President for establishing the North West Development Commission to hasten up the reconstruction and rebuilding of our geopolitical zone, which is the food basket of our country.”

He expressed optimism that in a few months, the hardship being faced in the country will fizzle out as the president’s numerous interventions bear fruits.

He said Kwankwaso should stop remote controlling the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, saying, “The NNPP government has already lost focus and fell out with the good people of Kano State. No matter the noise Kwankwaso makes, the APC in Kano is already poised to unseat the kangaroo NNPP government in Kano State come 2027 following the non-performance, loss of people’s confidence and breach of electoral confidence of the NNPP.”

He said that Kwankwaso lacks the morality to speak for the people of the North, adding that his assertion was only a whimsical statement applicable to himself.
