    Eguma: Dolphins’ game will improve

Head coach of Dolphins FC, Stanley Eguma has blamed their struggles at the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super Six tournament on their lack of a cutting edge.

The ex-Enyimba coach said that they had better chances against the Dream Team VI side and could have come out victorious if they took all their chances in front of the opponent’s sticks.

“I am worried that we have failed to score after two games and like I said, the boys have been goal shy. But it is my problem and I will go back to work on this,” the tactician said in a post-match conference.

The Pride of Rivers narrowly lost 1-0 to the Dream Team VI at the Abuja National Stadium on Monday evening, but the coach was satisfied with the performance of his boys.

“We played more as a team today (Monday), unlike our first game when we were just chasing the ball with no purpose. Forget the fact that we have not scored a goal so far, I am confident and happy that our game has improved.

Veteran goalkeeper Rotimi Sunday made another blunder in two days, and the coach was quick to say that the club would recruit a good goalkeeper and keep the experienced goal minder.

“The goal against us was a goalkeeper’s blunder and I think we need to work on his psychology and other challenges he has. He is not a bad goalkeeper but I think we will bring in another goalkeeper but will not throw Rotimi Sunday away because he has the experience we will need someday,” he added.

The coach promised that they shall be back to the league and the CAF Confederation Cup with a better team that will live up to expectation.

  • Kogi Utd warn Dolphins FC: Underrate us at your peril

Kogi United’s Technical Adviser, Abdullahi Abidemi Biffo, says his side will give everything to seal victory in today’s Federation Cup Round of 32 clash against Dolphins FC of Port-Harcourt at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The former Giwa FC handler admits that the match is a big test for his team but insists that his boys are not afraid of the former champions.

In a chat with SportingLife Biffo says he and his wards know the importance of the game and are ready to go as far as possible in the tournament.

“It is going to be a big test for our team. Dolphins were former FA Cup champions and they have good understanding of the competition. We are together, in good spirit and are not afraid of any team either by name or size, ” Biffo told SportingLife.

“Champions must be ready to face any challenge and as we prepare to be champions in this competition we are ready for them, but if they underrate us it will be at their peril.”

The former Kwara United coach also informed SportingLife that they were unable to register some of Kogi United’s new players for the tournament.

The trio of Sunday David from Teap FC Abuja, Ismail Jata and Richard Amadi will miss the match.

“The club’s management has done its part by providing all necessary things for the team. It is now the duty of the players to finish the business. Our new players will not be part of the game because we were unable to register them for the competition.”

GOMBE United has said Dolphins FC of Port-Harcourt will be their next casualty when they lock horns in this weekend’s Globacom Premier League Week 7 game.

Ibrahim Kwaranga, the Savannas Scorpions team manager said: “It’s our second of the double home game, so we intend to make the most of it by making it six over six. The team would step up its preparations for the Week 7 tie at the Pantami Stadium.

“We also know that they will come here to give us a good fight which is expected but I want to assure that Gombe United is up to the task as we have defeated both Heartland and Sharks FC.

“So it’s the maximum three points against Dolphins FC as anything short of it could make us walk on a tight rope.”

On his team’s slim victory against Sharks on Week 6, he said: “It was a good game as Haruna Babalo scored the winning goal and also the match official was fair on both teams.”

Having only scored three goals so far, Kwaranga says the Savannah Scorpions are just beginning to find their winning form.

“Even though we have not been scoring goals as expected by our fans, the good news is that we’re beginning to find our form.

“I’m optimistic that as the games come and our players step up their games, the team will begin to win big.”

Gombe United are placed 15th on the log with seven points from six games.

    Onyechefule wants win for Heartland

Heartland defensive midfielder, Onyebuchi Onyechefule has said his side will avoid defeat on match day one when the 2013/14 Glo Premier League season starts on February 23.

The Naze Millionaires will host former Nigerian champions, Dolphins FC, in the season’s opening game at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

The Owerri-based side were stunned 1-2 by the then newcomers, Nembe City in Owerri in the first game in the 2012/13 Glo Premier League season.

Onyechefule said his side are determined to kick off the season’s title campaign on a winning note against the Garden City side at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

“The painful defeat Nembe City inflicted on us right here in Owerri in last season’s opening fixture is still very fresh in our memories and we’ve vowed to avoid a repeat when we confront Dolphins in the season’s opening game in Owerri.

“We’ll like to start off our title campaign on high as a win in the first game will go a long way to boost our morale going into the next matches,” said the former Gombe United strong man to supersport.com.

Onyechefule, who almost watched last season league actions on the bench no thanks to an auto accident he was involved on the eve of his side match day seven fixture against Lobi Stars in Owerri said he is eagerly waiting to make his competitive game return against Glo Premier League side, Dolphins.

“I’m keenly counting days to announce my comeback to league action against Dolphins and I’m fervently praying for the long awaited return to be memorable, to be sealed with convincing victory.

“I’m hopeful to have the best day on match day and take it up from there, Heartland want to be champions we’ll join hands together to make it a reality,” Onyechefule said.
