    Iorfa praised for excellent form

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender, Richard Stearman, has praised the efforts of the club’s young full backs Dominic Iorfa and Kortney Hause for their recent performances in helping the club pick up two consecutive wins in the English Championship.

The duo have been brought into the side recently, and their introduction has coincided with Wolves’ returning to both winning ways and tighter defensive performances – Kenny Jackett’s team have conceded just twice in their last four games.

After yesterday’s win over Brentford, Stearman said: “Defensively you have to give credit to the two young full backs who have come in and been excellent.

While Hause has had loan spells at Gillingham and Wycombe Wanderers prior to his introduction into the first team at Wolves, Iorfa has only played seven professional matches in his career spending time at loan with Shrewsbury Town racking up 506 minutes but he has taken his opportunity in the first team of Wolves, performing consistently in the five games he has featured for the team.

Iorfa finished as top performer in the performance index of Whoscored.com picking up 8.2 points ahead of Richard Stearman who racked up 7.5 points to finish behind the 19-year-old Nigerian with another player of Nigerian descendant Moses Odubajo, who plays for Brentford finishing fourth.

However, Iorfa was pipped to Man Of The Match award by  Stearman, who said Wolves’ heroic last-ditch defending, after they had been reduced to ten men, was inspired by the disappointment of last month’s 4-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at Griffin Park.

    Iorfa impresses in Wolves victory

WOLVERHAMPTON Wanderers defender, Dominic Iorfa, showed his utility prowess impressing in an unfamiliar right full back role as they beat Watford 1-0.

Traditionally a center back, the 19-year-old didn’t appear out of place at right back away at Vicarage road, showing tremendous pace and tackling ability not expected from a player of his height.

The son of former Nigeria International, Dominic Iorfa, helped snuff out the threat of Watford pacy winger Ikechi Anya winning almost all of his duels with the Scottish International of Nigerian parentage.

Iorfa was also neat in possession and covered up well for his central defenders when the need arises and earned a mention from the club’s twitter handle for his all round contribution.

Also in the Wolves team at Vicarage road goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme eligible for Nigeria, produced top quality save to keep Watford at bay further enhancing his reputation as one of the best shot-stoppers in the Championship.

Ikeme produced a punch save taking it to the post off a deflected shot from former Nigeria under-20 captain Odion Ighalo, denying him an opportunity to level things up for Watford.

    Iorfa warns Lobi players

Lobi Stars’ Vice Chairman, Dominic Iorfa has cautioned his wards to concentrate on the challenges ahead of the Makurdi-based outfit in the league this season after the club’s slim win over Crown FC of Ogbomosho in the opening week of the Glo Premier League.

At the Emmanuel Akume Atongo Stadium in Katsina Ala last weekend, Lobi had to rely on a last minute goal from Stephen Eze to overcome the Ajilete Valiant 1-0 in a Week One tie but Iorfa, in a post-match interview, said he had warned his players to remain focused if they are to make headway in the league this season.

He praised the doggedness of the team for fighting hard till the very end before getting the much needed goal that sent Crown empty handed to Ogbomosho.

“We are not for too much talk,” Iorfa said. “The players must be ready to fight while the team’s players must support one another to ensure that victory is certain. It was a late goal that decided the tie in our last game against Crown but goals can come at any time during the 90 minutes of action. We must continue to fight hard if we are to be reckoned with.”
