A former Managing Director of Dasr Communication and Chief Executive Officer of Hosamudia Farm, Don Pedro Obaseki, has reportedly been attacked and stripped naked by suspected thugs in Benin, Edo State.

Obaseki, a cousin of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, was said to have featured prominently in several “meet and greet” sessions organised by the former governor across Europe.

Sources disclosed that the incident occurred at Uwa Primary School, where Pedro Obaseki had gone to play football before he was allegedly attacked and beaten by the assailants.

A viral video seen by our reporter showed Obaseki kneeling at the gate of the Oba of Benin’s Palace to pay allegiance to the monarch, Oba Ewuare II.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspected thugs had forced their way into the palace after allegedly telling palace guards that they had brought in an “Oghion,” loosely described as an enemy of the Oba.

Some palace chiefs who spoke during the incident said it coincided with the festive period, noting that the Oba was on his way to the Holy Arousa Church for a thanksgiving service.

One of the chiefs was quoted as saying, “Today is Thanksgiving Day at the Holy Arousa. We don’t want any trouble. If there is anybody who considers himself an enemy of the Oba, allow him and see how he will end up.”

Despite protests from the suspected thugs, the chiefs later intervened and took Pedro Obaseki into the palace.

  • Actors, producers, singers, others pay tribute to Bongoliso

The entertainment industry in Nigeria on Friday held a night of tribute and songs at the Ayo Banloke Center for the late seasoned actor, singer and dancer, Pius Amolo, popularly called Bonngoliso.

The Delta-born Amolo (55) died on Wednesday from a gas explosion in his house.

We reports that Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and some groups were represented at the event.

They planned to raise funds for the family.

Aremu Tope-Babayemi, the Vice President of AGN, told our reporterat the event that Amolo was distinguished himself in the creative industry.

“Only two weeks ago at this same venue, I saw him perform and thrill the crowd. Guests were amazed at his dexterity.

“He was not just a singer, dancer and actor, Amolo was a quintessential performer. Most artistes are either good dancers or singers or actors, but he was all,’’ he said.

Babayemi also said that Amolo overcame challenges in his profession.

“ In spite of the challenges in Nigeria’s creative industry, he excelled; because he was highly skilled, there was always the need for his services.

“I was not surprised when he became the backbone and anchor of the Friday event at the Ayo Bankole Centre for Arts and Creative Expression.

“Ayo Bankole Centre is for discerning audience. It is for accomplished musicians. I wasn’t surprised to find him there, and he carved a niche for himself.

“He will be deeply missed not only by his family but his colleagues; I pray God to give us the strength to carry on. May his souls rest in peace,” he said.

Actress Ann Njamanze said that she met Amolo when she was young in the industry and he was always willing to render help.

“He was never afraid of the mic and he was never selfish with the mic; he was always willing to share the mic and allow anyone play his own part on stage.

“He enjoyed Nigerian music more than anything else. I was been on stage with him on a number of occasions. He was a wonderful person, a total package. It is sad he is no longer with us,’’ she said.

Efe Omefe-Orahroha, also an actress, said that she would remember the late Amolo for many reason.

“He is one of the very few people I met growing up as an artiste.

“I remember then, when my mother was a costumier in the industry and he was one of the good men in the industry I met.

“He was very reserved and responsible. A lot of men would want to take advantage of a young woman but he never did; instead he advised on how to better one’s life,’’ she said.

The actress said that the late Amolo usually advised cooking gas users to be careful with it.

An actor and producer, Ozi Okoli, told our reporter that he first met Amolo at the Don Pedro Obaseki’s stage play, entitled: “Obaseki”.

“He acted a white man; he depicted that character very well and I later saw him sing. He sang well.

“He was a very good actor, dancer and singer, he was a true thespian.

“I was shocked at his death; his future was just opening up for him; when he was about to reap what he sowed, death came knocking; it is so painful,’’ he said.

A script writer, Femi Durojaiye, described Amolo as a reliable friend.

“You would like to have him as a friend; he was loyal and you would want to grow old with him. He was very creative and talented.

Durojaiye advised cooking gas users to be careful with it and regularly ensure it would be in order.

  • Ban Olamide’s ‘Science Student’, says Don Pedro Obaseki

Ban Olamide’s ‘Science Student’, says Don Pedro Obaseki

Notable filmmaker and communications expert Don Pedro Obaseki has asked the authories to ban the trending song, ‘Science Student’ by Olamide, claiming the song ‘eulogises’ drug abuse.

The celebrated filmmaker made this assertion in a recent video which has also been circulating on social media.

“My name is Don Pedro Obaseki and I’m driving on Third Mainland Bridge now, just coming from work in Lagos,” he said, beginning the video.

“I just came across a video that is trending stupendously online and it is a video by Olamide. Olamide Adedeji, you know, Badoo. And this one is called ‘Science Student.’

“I want to beg the Nigerian government, I want to beg the National Broadcasting Commission that if we have any sense of decency left. I’m driving and I can’t help it in this traffic when I heard that song. A song, that ‘Science Student’ song is encouraging our children to mix all forms of drugs. He’s speaking in Yoruba, yes, so you may not really get the import of what he’s talking about. He’s encouraging the children to take Tramadol. He’s encouraging the children to do ‘Monkey Tail.’ That is, he is eulogising all forms of illicit drugs and making it trendy.

“Our nation is a nation on its knees. So, for us to now have a boy as popular with a huge followership,  a huge opinion moulder like Olamide aka Olamide Badoo or Olamide Adedji, to put up a song that will be to a large extent, be an opinion moulder to the way children see themselves. We must ban this song. This song must not be allowed to hit the airwaves or any kind of wave.

“Not stopping there, for his so much celebration of what is bad about drug abuse, we should, the Nigerian government or the authorities, NDLEA, EFCC, whatever, should please save the minds of Nigerian kids. It’s enough that they walk the streets, every one of them proteting against the system in one way or the other. They do that with Rastafarian hair, Hare Krishna skull, Marxist beards, turning their fez caps the wrong way round and sagging trousers. For them now to be celebrating the use of codeine, he use of Tramadol, Skoochie – all are embedded in Olamide’s song.”

He also urged Nigerians desirous of a positive change for the country to share his video.

“I beg you, if you are a parent, share this. If you’re someone with a conscience, share this. If you’re someone interested in the future of this country, where our youths are already a beggarly bunch, share this because Nigeria cannot right now be at the end of the devil’s spoon. My name is Pedro Obaseki and I beg Nigerians to do the right thing.”

He however added that Olamide’s star appeal be harnessed for the good of the youth.

“We should get hold of Olamide and make him the ambassador of good behaviour for children because we cannot be buying his record and clicking on his links only for our children to be the ones at the receiving end of his apostate pronouncements and crusade,” he said.

“This is enough. Enough is enuogh. I don’t only speak as a Nigerian, I speak as an investor in the Nigerian entertainment content sector. God bless Nigeria and please let’s beg Olamide to pull that video down and change that song. That is a song that is going to be a nail on the coffin of the future of our children. God bless Nigeria.”

While no ban is yet out, Olamide’s song has continued to trend as the artiste has continued promotion of the song.

According to him, “He did not tell us he was withdrawing from the Accord Party. He said we should support Ize-Iyamu because he cannot work with Godwin Obaseki.

“We try to cover for him when he said it was because of the case in court that his name was not published. The truth is that he has no money to pay for the form even though Isibor went to court.”

Obaseki’s name missing from election list

A former Managing Director of Daar Communications, Don Pedro Obaseki, may not participate in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State unless he gets a vacation judge to vacate a court order barring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting his name as candidate of the Accord Party.

Obaseki and the Accord Party were conspicuously missing in the list of 19 candidates and political parties released by INEC on Wednesday.

A factional chairman of the party, Dr. Samson Isibor, had reportedly secured a Federal High Court order barring INEC from accepting Obaseki’s name for the election.

Dr. Isibor had named Obaseki, Lawal Muhammad Nalado, Mr. Nureni Adisa and INEC as defendants in the suit.

In a telephone chat with our correspondent, Obaseki said he was not aware of the suit until INEC was served the injunctions granted by the court.

The ex- Daar Communications chief said he could not get a counter order because courts have gone on recess till September.

He stated that the party has started searching for a vacation judge that would hear the defendants’ argument and vacate the order.

He said, “Paid apologists have taken me and INEC to court and they got a court order to stop me from running. INEC in obedience to the court order has not published my name.

“Yet, I can’t get a counter-order as the courts have gone on recess till September. Is this fair? Is this the fate of our state? Who is afraid of an ordinary man who dares to dream?”
