    BREAKING: Doris evicted from BBNaija season 10

    Big Brother Naija housemate Doris has been evicted from the ongoing “10/10” season, becoming the tenth contestant to leave the show.

    Her eviction followed a dramatic twist in which 19 housemates were put up after a search for an envelope containing an immunity card. Doris, however, did not survive the process.

    With 19 contestants still in the running, the competition has grown fiercer, forcing housemates to rethink their strategies and alliances.

    Head of House Faith remains immune this week and also used his veto power to save Zita, while Mensan secured an immunity card.

    As the show progresses, tensions are expected to rise as housemates battle to remain in the game and edge closer to the grand prize.

    Nigeria’s, other consumer markets to hit $2.5tr

    The Minister, Industry Trade and Investment Doris Uzoka Anite yesterday disclosed that Africa is the fastest growing consumer market globally, with over 1.2 billion consumers, which is projected to reach 1.7 billion by 2030.

    However, she noted that consumer expenditure in Africa peaked at $1.4 trillion in 2015, growing at a compound annual rate of 3.9per cent since 2010, and is predicted to hit $2.1trillion by 2025, and $2.5 trillion by 2030.

    The minister disclosed this at the 2024 celebration of the 11th African day of standardization in Abuja, with the theme: “Empowering Consumers Through Standardization to Achieve Their Rights to Safe Quality Goods And Services.”

    She applauded the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) and the African Organisation for Standardization (ARSO) for their visionary decision to set aside the day dedicated to raise national awareness of its  shared obligations in the field of standardization.

    Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Amb. Nura Abba Rimi, she said consumers in Africa are faced with several challenges emanating from misleading advertisements, reproach from service providers, counterfeit products, unsafe items, substandard services, inadequate information or transparency, and safety hazards associated with overpriced offerings.

    “The implementation of standards across the African continent has changed the narrative, serving as a safety net for consumer rights. The Nigerian government has also implemented policies and programs to establish an enabling environment for consumers to thrive. Initiatives like consumer protection programs, have streamlined bureaucratic processes, eliminated bottlenecks, and improved the welfare of consumers,” she said.

    The Director-General, SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke said this year’s theme draws Nigerian’s attention to the Rights of Consumers in the country, and the global efforts on awareness of consumer rights and needs as well as the opportunity for the standardization community to highlight how said the country remained a major player in commerce and trade across the African continent, the country through the instrumentality of SON, will continue to provide the much-needed standardization platform to both manufacturers and consumers alike so that the purpose of the African Continent Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) can catalyze the free flow of goods and services across the continent for global market positioning.
