Dr Sid picks July 27 for white wedding

IN a few weeks’ time, sensational Nigerian singer, Dr Sid, will be bidding bye to bachelorhood, as he is set to walk down the aisle with his long-time fiancé, Simi Osomo, on July 27.

The Surulere crooner, son of the late Nollywood great, Justice Esiri, made this announcement during the week when he posted a picture of him and his fiancé via instagram.

The University of Ibadan Veterinary  Medicine graduate wrote on his Instagram page: “ On the 27th July, 2014, I say “I do” to this beautiful woman #LoveMine my #LastBusStop”.

It will be recalled the duo had their wedding introduction in December, 2013.   Few months afterwards, precisely last month, Simi Osomo hit Las Vegas with some friends to celebrate her bachelorette party. However, according to reports, a number of her friends were absent at the party on the grounds that there was no provision for accommodation and flight.

Miffed by their action, Simi, in an email, was said to have removed the names of her friends who did not show up for the bachelorette party from attending her wedding through an e-mail.  The email reads in part:  “Hey, I’m emailing in regards to my bachelorette party in Vegas. I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt that, out of courtesy and regard for me, you would have communicated to me or Titi in advance that you would not be able make the trip.

“I communicated with you on different occasions beforehand and at no point did you tell me you couldn’t make it or at least mention your reasons for not showing up.

Titi spent a lot of time, efforts and money planning the Vegas trip, with a lot on the itinerary already paid for, but you couldn’t be considerate enough to respond to the final email confirming arrival dates and times, saying you couldn’t make it. “After careful thought of your actions towards me, I would like to let you know formally that you are not invited to Sidney and I’s wedding. I would like to share it with the ones who truly care and support me-friends I can count on, who equally hold me in high regard.”

    Dr. Sid announces wedding plans

The Nigerian entertainment industry was abuzz at the weekend with the star-studded wedding of Nigerian music diva, Tiwa Savage and her husband, Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun.
For most artistes, it was a time to felicitate with the bride and groom. As the ceremony got underway, guests were given room to make speeches. But interestingly, Tiwa’s co-Mavin artiste, Dr Sid, dropped a bombshell.
In a few words, the Surulere crooner announced that his wedding would come up in July. Though he didn’t disclose the details, the artiste set the entertainment world in an anticipatory mood. This is even more so as the introduction ceremony of the Mavin artiste and his fashion consultant fiancée, Simi Osomo, had taken place in Lagos on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
Only recently, the artiste made a career move when he delved into the movie world. He made his Nollywood debut in the movie, The Last 3 Digits. The movie, which also features actor Nonso Diobi, was directed by Moses Inwang.
Inwang was full of commendations for the Mavin artiste, as he said: “In 2008, Justus Esiri gave me a wonderful performance in the film, Chase. Six years after, his son, Dr Sid, stepped into his father’s shoes and blew me away with his amazing performance in The Last Three Digits, playing alongside talented actor, Nonso Diobi.”

JUST like Davido, Omawumi and other Nigerian top singers, Dr Sid has also made his debut appearance in a Nollywood movie, The Last 3 Digits, a development that many see as an attempt at stepping into his late father’s shoes.

The movie also stars actor and Glo ambassador, Nonso Diobi.

Moses Ewang, the director of the movie, said: “In 2008, Justus Esiri gave me a wonderful performance in the film, Chase. Six years later, his son, Dr Sid, has stepped into his father’s shoes and blown me away with this amazing performance in The Last Three Digits, where he played alongside talented actor, Nonso Diobi!”

Born Sidney Onoriode Esiri, he is a singer-songwriter and dentist, who hails from Delta State, but was raised in Lagos. His mother is a successful fashion designer. His late father, a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), was famous for his role as the Village Headmaster, a Nigerian sitcom popular in the 1980s.

Dr Sid, who is the second child of four children, has had his mind set on becoming an entertainer from his childhood. However, his life took a different course after he graduated from the Nigerian Air Force Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos. He attended the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State, where he studied Dental Surgery. He first worked at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, and later did his national youth service in Yola, Adamawa State. He also worked at various dental clinics, while also playing music.

Three years after, he resolved to quit his practice as a dentist, so he could concentrate fully on his music career. He signed on to Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records, where he recorded the Mo’ Hits All stars album, Curriculum Vitae, (CV), which was released in December, 2007. He featured on seven of the 15 tracks released on the album, which included Booty Call and Close to You.

Dr Sid, Tiwa Savage to compere 2013 Headies

Following several months of planning, Nigerian superstars, Tiwa Savage and Dr Sid, have been named hosts for the 2013 edition of The Headies music awards.
According to the organizers, both artistes have been selected in line with the awards’ tradition of picking talented and inspiring entertainers to host the ceremony, which parades some of the continent’s biggest entertainers.
Speaking on The Headies, Tiwa, who was full of commendation, said, “Being the eighth year, it’s not easy to be consistent in a country like Nigeria. So, I give kudos to the organizers for creating an award by Nigerians for Nigerians. It’s always sketchy when the nomination list comes up, like this year. We are not going to touch on that. We’ll just wait for the night and address those issues; and then, we’ll go ‘all Kanye West’ on the awards.”
Dr. Sid was also full of excitement, saying, “I’ve been trying to host this event for the past six years. I had waited to be called to no avail; but this year, I’m one of the hosts. I’m so emotional right now and I’m glad for this opportunity.”
The eighth edition of The Headies comes up on December 26, at the Grand Ball Room of the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.
Also known as the Hip-HopWorld Awards, the event, according to the organizers, seeks to honour urbane music and hip-hop culture.
Produced and presented to match some of the biggest awards shows from around the world, The The Headies annually celebrates deserving Nigerian music stars and gives honour to whom it is due, while also encouraging many to raise their game in order to enter the prestigious Headies alumni.

  • Wande Coal quits Marvin records

    Wande Coal quits Marvin records

Award-winning artiste, Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe, popularly known as Wande Coal has quit Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records.

The Nation gathered that Wande Coal, a member of the defunct Mo’hits records, co-owned by Dbanj and Don Jazzy, released a single Kilaju two days ago, under his own floated record label called Black Diamond Entertainment. His two previous singles Kick and Rotate had been released under Marvin Records.

Although no official statement has been issued on Wande exit from Mavin Records, there are strong indications that he has moved on for good as the official cover art of the new single reads: Black Diamond Entertainment-Wande Coal Kilaju-produced by Maleek Berry.

The producer of the single is another indication that things have fallen apart in the Marvin camp as Maleek is Wizkid’s in-house producer.

A source who does not want his name in print disclosed that Wande’s career has been dormant right from the days of the Mo’hits records and as such he may have decided to take his destiny in his own hands by launching his own record label.

“Don’t blame Wande Coal; he’s only released one full-length album, Mushin2Mohits back in 2009,” the source said.

It would be recalled that Mavin Records was founded barely a year ago after the crisis that rocked Mo’Hits records. Other artistes on the label are Tiwa Savage, D’Prince and Dr. Sid.
