  • Special Ramadan pop-up on DStv, GOtv

    MultiChoice Nigeria is set to launch a dedicated Ramadan pop-up channel to cater for the spiritual needs of Muslim subscribers on DStv and GOtv throughout the Ramadan.

    The dedicated Ramadan pop-channel will open on May 5 and run till June 4, the last day of the Holy Month.

    The channel, which will be available to active subscribers on all DStv packages, including DStv Now, as well as GOtv Plus and GOtv Max customers, will broadcast local Ramadan-related content.

    The special pop-up channel will provide subscribers with access to Ramadan-focused lifestyle, movies, talk shows, music and kiddies’ programming. Similarly available on the Ramadan channel are the daily call to prayers, docuseries, cooking shows and programmes on the conduct and obligations of Muslims during Ramadan.

    The Chief Executive Officer, MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, explained that the channel will provide wholesome programmes and shows to strengthen the belief of the Muslim faithful, as well as entertain them throughout Ramadan.

    He said: “We are delighted to launch the Ramadan Pop up Channel, which is a platform carefully created to provide faith-nourishing television content for every member of the Muslim family, including the young ones.

    “The month of Ramadan is an important one for Muslims worldwide, as it provides an opportunity for physical and spiritual purification through fasting, increase in worship and recitation of the Holy Quran. The Ramadan Pop up channel provides a platform for our subscribers to have access to programmes that increase their faith.”

  • ‘One Night with My Ex’: Dstv opens platform for venting

    ON April 19, 2019, 1Magic on DStv will bring viewers a reality show that allows people to dissect what went wrong in their past relationships, handing them a final opportunity for closure, forgiveness or vindication.

    The reunion with the long-lost ex plays out in a single night in an apartment setting, in the hopes of leaving the experience feeling better than when they entered it. But, bringing former lovers together can be tricky and could result in turmoil for some.

    One Night With My Ex is about people who are desperate for romantic closure. These lonely singles need their mysteries of lost love resolved.

    Each episode features two couples who attempt to resolve their differences by dissecting matters ranging from infidelity, deceit, jealousy or an absolute lack of ambition. The aim is to get answers and in turn get healing. Could this result in some couples reigniting the fire of love and getting back together?

    “One Night With My Ex is a reality show about ordinary people in search of closure. It’s about love, disappointment, heartache and second chances. We believe it will resonate with all our viewers, but for different reasons” says Reneilwe Sema, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.

    The show is produced by Rapid Blue and the first season will be on our screens for 13 instalments. It will air every Friday at 8:00 pm WAT on 1Magic (DStv channel 103).

  • MICHAEL JACKSON: Dstv to air controversial ‘Leaving Neverland’

    AS the world all over is talking about the controversial revelations about late music icon, Michael Jackson, the much-debated two-part documentary, ‘Leaving Neverland’, DStv says customers across Africa don’t have to wait long to see why the Channel 4 and HBO co-production has taken the world by storm.

    Few weeks after its controversial premiere in the US at the recent Sundance Film Festival, ‘Leaving Neverland’ will be screened across two days on M-Net City, DStv channel 115 this weekend.

    Part one will be aired on M-Net City on Saturday, 30 March at 8:40pm WAT, while part 2 will follow on Sunday, 31 March at 8:40pm WAT. To accommodate these screenings, M-Net City will reschedule The Blacklist S5 on Saturday and Stan Lee’s Lucky Man S3 on Sunday.

    The PayTV station says fans of these shows can catch the next episodes of The Blacklist S5 episodes 17 & 18 on Saturday 6 April and Stan Lee’s Lucky Man S3 episodes 7 & 8 on Sunday 7 April.

    Directed and produced by five-time BAFTA-winner Dan Reed, the four-hour long ‘Leaving Neverland’ unpacks the story of two individuals: James Safechuck and Wade Robson, now-adult men in their 30s, who befriended Jackson at the ages of ten and seven respectively. Through gut-wrenching interviews with Safechuck and Robson, as well as their mothers, wives and siblings, Leaving Neverland crafts a portrait of sustained abuse, and explores the complicated feelings that led both men to confront their experiences after both had a young son of their own. Playing out against the backdrop of our collective experience, the film documents the value of breaking silence, even when it implicates a powerful and revered figure.

    “Bringing ‘Leaving Neverland’ to African screens is testament to the fact that DStv brings the most compelling content to the continent as quickly as possible,” says MultiChoice Nigeria Chief Customer Officer, Martin Mabutho. “Please note, however, that documentary is not suitable for younger viewers as it contains strong language, discussions of self-harm and graphic descriptions of child sexual abuse.”

    Among the line-up of channels which have already acquired the documentary are Network Ten Australia, DR Denmark, VPRO Netherlands, SVT Sweden, ProSieben Germany, Channel One Russia, VRT Belgium, NRK Norway, TVNZ New Zealand, Discovery Italy, DBS Israel, Amedia Russia, YLE Finland, Fox Asia, Front Row Middle East, RUV Iceland, M6 France, HBO Latin America, HBO Portugal and Movistar + in Spain and HBO CEE. Additionally, there are a considerable number of deals which are currently in the final stages of negotiation.

    Leaving Neverland airs on M-Net City channel 115 on DStv with part one on Saturday, 30 March at 8:40pm WAT, and part two on Sunday, 31 March at 8:40pm.

  • Dstv dedicates pop up channel superheroes

    LEGENDARY superheroes to take over the holidays and rule over new action-packed DStv Pop-Up channel SuperheroHQ. SuperheroHQ is an exciting new Pop-Up channel premiering on DStv, super-powered by Cartoon Network. SuperheroHQ is where universally appealing superheroes will share their best stories about saving the world and their most action-packed adventures, offering viewers an almighty battle between the best of animated adventures against the unsurpassed action-packed superhero movies.

    Between 15 and 31 March 2019, these much-loved superheroes will set up home on DStv channel 300. During the day, the kids will get to enjoy eight of their favourite animated, caped-hero series like Batman, Superman, Justice League, Green Lantern and Teen Titans. Then, in the evenings, the whole family can settle down to watch some superhero sagas such as the four Superman films, and all three Spy Kids movies. For fans of the legendary animated superhero movies, the ultimate selection has been made including The LEGO Batman Movie, Batman Gotham Knight, and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.

    But, it’s not only superheroes that will be making their rounds in this domain; they will join forces with acclaimed South African comedian, Comic’s Choice Award and Emmy Award nominee, Mojak Lehoko, who brings some African flavour and lots of laughter to the channel, on and off air. In-between the anticipated superhero programming, Lehoko will present super-comedic stand-up videos where he identifies with the humour found in the superheroes of the channel.

  • BBNaija airs past highlights, Double Wahala reunion show

    AS the countdown to the eagerly anticipated fourth season of Big Brother Naija heats up, MultiChoice Nigeria is treating fans of the popular reality TV show to an exclusive reunion show and special pop-up channel on DStv and GOtv.

    The BBNaija pop-up channel opened on Friday, March 1, at 10am and will run till Sunday, March 31, at midnight on DStv channel 198 and GOtv channel 29, featuring highlights from the previous two seasons – See Gobbe and Double Wahala.

    The excitement goes a notch higher with a special reunion show which will air from Monday, 18 March to Sunday, 31 March, featuring the stars of the BBNaija Double Wahala season. The BBNaija pop-up channel is available to active customers on DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, Access and GOtv Max and Plus.

    This has been the most anticipated BBNaija season yet since the announcement of its return for a fourth season in January. Auditions for the show recorded a massive turnout in eight locations across the country followed by an innovative online audition process which closed on the 27th of March. The pop-up channel will take fans and viewers alike on a trip down memory lane while whetting their appetites on the start of the new season.

  • Halita drama series berths on Africa Magic

    DSTV and GOtv viewers across Africa will, from February 4, 2019, be treated to a new drama series, Halita, on Africa Magic Family (DStv channel 154 and GOtv channel 2).

    The series which will be showing every weeknight at 7pm WAT, is set in Northern Nigeria and tells the story of a young woman who is forced to flee the village and a crooked suitor, only to face the intrigue and drama of a new life in the city with a powerful family.

    According to Channel Director, Africa Magic, Wangi Mba Uzoukwu, “Halita demonstrates yet again our commitment to telling the best stories out of Africa for Africa. It is a tale of family, fortune and fate, and is guaranteed to provide the exciting entertaining content that the Africa Magic channels are renowned for. The production values are stellar, and the performances are worthy of critical acclaim. Lovers of exciting African entertainment content would do well to tune in and watch the show.”

    The cast of the new series includes a blend of established and up and coming acts such as Ummi Baba Ahmed, Boma Elamiena, Eddy Madaki and Chisom Gabriella in the lead role as Halita.

  • La Liga live on DStv, GOtv

    Round 21 of the 2018/19 La Liga season will, again, offer Atletico Madrid the chance of putting pressure on leaders Barcelona, while Real Madrid will hope to bridge the gap between them and their table-topping rivals. The matches will be live on DStv and GOtv.

    Atletico play at home to sixth-placed Getafe on Saturday evening (4.15pm on SS7 & SelGo4), while Barca will be in action away to Girona on Sunday (4.15pm on SS7 & SelGo4). Diego Simeone’s side will, on the evidence of the 3-0 thumping of Huesca last week, fancy their chances of picking up all three points and move within two points of Barcelona, who will seek to restore their five-point advantage against Girona.

    Real Madrid will hope to see their two rivals slip up, as they bid to revive their title hopes. They moved to third on the table with a 2-0 win over Sevilla last weekend and will be favourites to build further momentum when they play away to Espanyol on Sunday night (8.45pm on SS7 & SelGo4).

    Elsewhere, Karl Toko Ekambi and Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal will seek to halt their slide toward the foot of the table when they head to the Mestalla to face Valencia on Saturday night (6.30pm on SS7A & SelGo4). Villarreal are winless in their last seven matches across all competitions and have slipped into the red zone of La Liga.

    Sevilla will look to reinforce their place in the top four when they face Levante on Saturday (on SS7 & SelGo4), while Athletic Bilbao will look to maintain their promising recent form with a win at home to Real Betis (Saturday, 8.45pm on SS7/SS10 & SelGo2/SelGo4). Also on Saturday, Leganes will take on Eibar (6.30pm on SS7 & SelGo4).

    Sunday will see clashes between Real Valladolid and Celta de Vigo (12pm on SS7/SS10 & SelGo2/SelGo4) as well as Real Sociedad and Huesca (6.30pm on SS6).

  • The Emirates FA Cup back on DStv, GOtv

    MultiChoice Africa, through SuperSport, has acquired the rights to air the 2018/19 Emirates FA Cup season on DStv and GOtv in Sub-Saharan Africa. The season, which kicked off in August 2018, will commence in 2019 with third-round matches from January 4.

    “Our aim is to deliver a front-row view of the best football titles in the world for our valued DStv and GOtv customers so, from January 4 2019, they will be able to enjoy the Emirates FA Cup on SuperSport channels,” says John Ugbe – CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria.

    Customers will get access to the third round of FA Cup from January 4-6 alongside MultiChoice’s other major football title acquisitions, the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Champions League. Viewers can stream all the live football action on the DStv Now app to watch from wherever they are.

    This announcement follows the recent announcement of the UFC which will also begin airing on SuperSport from January 2019. “

    It was a night of grandeur for fans, media, friends and associates who came out in their best to the exclusive private screening of the highly anticipated movie Aquaman held at IMAX Filmhouse Cinemas Lekki, Lagos, courtesy of Dstv, the leading TV entertainment company.

    The big superhero film based on DC comics character evolves around Jason Momoa, the king of the sea who played the role of Arthur Curry (Aquaman) the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, who finds himself caught between a surface world that ravages the sea and the underwater Atlanteans. His on-screen wife,  Queen Mera (Amber Heard) is a pretty woman and a fierce fighter who is also a water breather just like her husband Arthur and together fought many hard water battles.
