    Daniel dumps Crown FC

Crown FC striker, Bode Daniel, has said he has played his last game for the demoted side in match day 38 clash against Akwa United in the 2013/14 Glo Premier League season.

The Ogbomosho-based side were demoted to the second tier league, Nigeria National League (NNL)  with Gombe United, Kaduna United and Nembe City.

Daniel said several approaches have been made prior to the end of the season and after by some top-flight sides but he is not in a hurry to agree to terms with any side for the upcoming season. “I must confess to you that my body and mind are no more with Crown FC. I’m certain I’ve played my last game for the side against Akwa United in the 2013/14 league season.

“I’m resting right now with my family but when I decide on my future definitely Crown FC won’t be mentioned. It has nothing to do with the side’s demotion to the lower league but a desire for a change of environment.

“I’m certainly looking elsewhere for greener pastures in the new season, clubs actually approached me while the season was on and as I speak with you there have been renewed interest in me by some teams but nothing has been agreed.

“I want to take my time and study each proposal carefully before I’ll commit myself, I don’t want to make any mistake. Though I’m open to discussions with any team that wants my service but I’ll like to settle down ultimately with a top flight side,” said Daniel to supersport.com.

The Ogbomosho-based side’s top striker scored seven goals in the league as well as four goals in the 2014 Federation Cup.

  • Abuja’s mountainous garbage dumps

    Abuja’s mountainous garbage dumps

When the idea of moving Nigeria’s capital city from Lagos to Abuja was conceived in the late 1970s, it was believed that the new capital city would be less congested and neater  than Lagos that seemed so crowded and grimy so much so that it fell short of international standard of what a country’s capital should be.

The perception, as encapsulated in the Abuja Master Plan, was a world-class capital that would match those of  USA, England, Japan and Germany, among others that are near perfect in terms of tidiness and orderliness.

Never was it thought to be a city where refuse dumps would be competing in height with one of the tallest mountains, let alone being overcrowded like the Old Oshodi in Lagos State.

We concede that in the first few years after it finally became the nation’s capital from 1986 during the regime of Military President  Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, there was an appreciable level of orderliness and neatness. However, the same cannot be said of  Nigeria’s capital city. It has been characterised by seemingly irreversible inclination to why it took over from Lagos as capital city, which are congestion and filthiness. Several mountains-like refuse dumps beautify the city, especially in the area councils. The situation has become a source of worry to successive administrations of  the Federal Capital Territory and residents of the area.

In the circumstances, residents of  Kubwa 2 Extension, Bwari Area Council of the FCT, have cried out to the administration of the council over what they called “life-threatening refuse heaps”. They urged the council to save them from the looming danger that may result from the mountainous garbage dump. This, they said, the council could do by evacuating the garbage mass along the Kubwa-Dutse Road which is causing health hazard to the people.

In a chat with our correspondent, most of the residents said the garbage has piled for a very long time, adding that there was need for the council to evacuate it as the stench oozing out of the heap was becoming unbearable.

One of the residents, Ike Eguna, said the area was not the best place to be designated a garbage dump as it was along the road, stressing that people pass through there breathing in the bad odour.

“The garbage heap is along the road. Most people pass through there to church and when we do, we don’t always feel comfortable. We have to pass the area in a rush. It is rather disgusting and one is scared of the health hazard it might cause to people,” he said.

Another resident, Gonu Boku, pleaded with the council to designate another areawhere people could be dumping their garbage. He added that very soon the garbage heap will make the road impassable.

“When that happens, I don’t know what we will do. It is already happening.

We are calling on the council authorities to help in evacuating it before the situation becomes worse,” he said.

Another resident, Hassana Muhammed, added  that  the mai bolas had made matters worse at the area as they travel from all parts of  Kubwa and

Dutse to pill refuse there, adding that there was need for the mai bolas to be shown the designated venues where they could dump the garbage.

  • N8.8m debt: Aminu dumps Samsunspor

    N8.8m debt: Aminu dumps Samsunspor

Nigeria Under 20 star Umar Aminu has joined Turkish Super league side Balikesirspor from Samsunspor, who owed him close to 40,000 Euros (about 8.8Million Naira) from last season.

Balikesirspor will play in the Turkish top flight in the coming season after they finished as runners-up in the lower division last season.

Samsunspor valued the former Wikki Tourists forward at a million Euros (about N220m).

According to fanatik.com, Aminu was a big hit for Samsunspor last season, when he scored seven goals in the Turkish second division to spark off interests from several bigger clubs.

The 19-year-old striker is a match winner who could single-handedly decide a game.

Despite the cash problems that plagued Samsunspor last season, he played till the last kick of the ball.

  • Anambra: PDP dumps Nwoye for Ukachukwu

Anambra: PDP dumps Nwoye for Ukachukwu

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally bowed to the court ruling that voided the candidacy of Mr. Tony Nwoye and cleared Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as the party’s candidate for the November 16 Anambra State governorship election.

To this effect, the party yesterday forwarded Ukachukwu’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate for the election.

The letter, dated October 2, 2013 and addressed to the Chairman of the INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, was jointly signed by PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and National Secretary, Prof. Adewale Oladipo.

The letter affirmed the authenticity of Ukachukwu as the PDP’s standard bearer for the election, thereby laying to rest the controversy over who flies the party’s flag at the poll.

The party said its decision was informed by a ruling of a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt on the matter.

The leadership of the party had earlier forwarded Nwoye’s name to INEC before a Federal Hight Court in Port Harcourt ruled in Ukachukwu’s favour, in a suit he filed to challenge the choice of Nwoye by the party.

  • Patience Jonathan dumps association of friends

Patience Jonathan dumps association of friends

Success has many relatives, goes the saying. Even if one did not know this before now, the load of goodwill messages that have come the way of the Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, during her thanksgiving party last weekend, has lent credence to that assertion. It is therefore not surprising that many women in the corridors of powers are fervently courting her attention after abandoning her during her trying times.

The First Lady, who recently opened up for the first time on the health crisis that almost claimed her life last year, admitted that she was in coma for more than one week. She also said she underwent surgery nine times in one month. Now she is back and better. This explains why she staged an elaborate thanksgiving party in Aso Villa last Sunday, in appreciation of God’s goodness.

However, some of her friends, whom she said abandoned her on her sick bed, are now trying to worm themselves back into her heart, singing her praise to high heavens. Happenstances gathered that the First Lady has now separated her real friends from favour seekers and has also dumped the Association of Friends of the First Lady of Nigeria (FFLN).

In a bid to be part of the group, not a few women in the social space, particularly the high society, are engaged in tireless hustle to be part of it. But at the moment, the First Lady has decided to severe her relationship with them.

  • Woman dumps day-old baby

A woman, Mrs. Adejoke Ojo (26), has dumped her day-old baby boy in a bush at Ikere-Ekiti in Ekiti State.

She blamed poverty for her action.

The resident of No 9, Ikoyi Street, said her husband could hardly take care of their three children and she did not want to add more to their problems.

Mrs. Ojo said: “I am 26 years old. I did what I did because of poverty. I already have three children and I cannot care for the baby.

“Throughout the pregnancy period, I did not attend antenatal and did not buy any stuff for the baby. How then can I take care of him?”

Mrs. Ojo and her husband, Mr. Dada Ojo, have been arrested by the police. Speaking with reporters, Ojo said: “I am not rich; I am a commercial cab operator and I give her money out of the N1,000 I make daily, so that she can take care of our three children.

“I am surprised and disappointed by what she did. She did not tell me about her plans. When I returned home in the evening, I asked after my child and she told me he was dead. I became suspicious because the baby was not ill when I left in the morning.”

The police said the couple would be arraigned when they conclude their investigations.
