Firm: over 600m businesses verified in our global identity system

Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) Nigeria has said over 600 million businesses worldwide are recognised and verified through DUNS Number, reinforcing its status as a global standard for business identity, credibility, and cross-border commerce.

In a statement, Senior Manager of Customer Success & Engagement, Atinuke Williams,  noted that from multinational corporations to emerging enterprises, the nine-digit identifier has become essential for proving legitimacy and accessing financing, with over 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies relying on the system.

“The DUNS Number — short for Data Universal Numbering System — assigns each business a unique global identity, enabling companies to distinguish themselves, build trust with partners and access international opportunities,” she said. “For many organisations, the number has become critical to securing investment, strengthening reputation and participating in global supply chains.”

Williams added that in Nigeria, Dun & Bradstreet Nigeria remains the only authorised provider of DUNS Number, connecting local companies to a global network of verified enterprises.

She said the identifier has evolved beyond a simple listing tool into a gateway to a data-driven ecosystem where trust underpins growth. “Companies with a DUNS Number benefit from enhanced visibility and credibility, especially when engaging international partners.”

Beyond issuing the identifier, the firm also offers a suite of business intelligence and analytics solutions designed to help organisations grow securely and manage risk.

These include DUNS Registered Seal (DRS), which allows verified businesses to display DUNS Registered™ badge; Vend-R, a vendor risk-management solution for assessing and monitoring third-party exposure; Finance Analytics for improved lending and investment decisions; and Risk Analytics for identifying and mitigating threats.

Pupils learn poetry, self expression to mark World Children’s Day

ruth Isabella Peters Foundation has hosted a creative poetry workshop, “My Voice, My Space,” in honour of International World Children’s Day on Thursday.

Rooted in the global theme: “My Day, My Rights,” the workshop welcomed pupils from Taqwa Schools for enriching poetry and creative writing experience to build confidence, encourage self-expression, and deepen emotional awareness through the written word.

Held in Lagos, the workshop was facilitated by Ruth Peters, founder, who created a warm and supportive environment where pupils could explore their thoughts, identities, and rights through poetry.

Daniel Krull, consul general of Germany in Nigeria was present, marking a moment that reflected the convener’s German–Nigerian heritage.

Pupils selected a word from the Word Bank—a curated set of powerful and expressive terms and used it as foundation for crafting their own poems. Each pupil wrote and recited their poems to the group, fostering public speaking, confidence and peer appreciation.

A standout moment was installation of the Poetry Wall, which showcased the pupils’ poems. The display served as a visual celebration of their voices, creativity, and ideas, reinforcing the message that every child’s word holds meaning, beauty, and power.

Peters said: “We believe every child deserves a space where their voice is valued. This workshop allowed them to express their thoughts freely and discover the strength and beauty in their words.”

The workshop reflects the foundation’s commitment to promoting literacy, emotional development, and creative expression among the young.

Firm warns businesses against patronising fake DUNS agents

Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) Nigeria, the sole authorised provider of the globally recognised DUNS number in the country, has issued a warning to businesses and professionals about the rise of fraudulent individuals and entities falsely claiming to offer DUNS registration services.

The DUNS Number, short for Data Universal Numbering System, is a unique nine-digit identifier used globally to verify the legitimacy of businesses and track their commercial records.

As a trusted name in business data and analytics, D&B issues these identifiers to support transparency and trust in the global marketplace, according to a statement by the company.

In Nigeria, the company is the only authorised issuer of the DUNS Number. However, it has noted a disturbing increase in scammers posing as its representatives and targeting unsuspecting individuals online. These impostors often promise expedited DUNS Number registration in exchange for payment via unverified platforms.

To ensure authenticity, D&B Nigeria advises businesses to use only its official contact channels in seeking information from the company.

Senior Manager, Customer Success & Engagement at Dun & Bradstreet Nigeria, Atinuke Williams, said:  “We do not outsource DUNS Number services to any third parties or agents. “Any such claims are false. We urge the public to remain vigilant and use only our official channels to apply for or verify a DUNS Number.”

The company warns that falling victim to these scams can result in data breaches, financial loss, and reputational damage. In some cases, victims have received counterfeit DUNS Numbers that do not appear in D&B’s global database.

D&B Nigeria reiterates its commitment to supporting business integrity and urges all companies to stay informed and cautious when seeking business verification services.
