    Court docks man over alleged theft of bus

    A 27-year-old man, Johnson Michael, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of a Toyota Sienna, valued at N1.8 million.

    Michael is facing a count charge of stealing.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Duro Adekunle, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 7 at Deborah Event Centre, Osogbo.

    Adekunle said that the defendant stole the Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 974 AZ, worth N1.8 million, property of one Lukman Olatunbosun.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The defendant denied committing the offence.

    Counsel to the defendant, Mr Ranageous Ugwu, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

    The Magistrate, Mr Ashiru Ayeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

    He adjourned the case  until Dec.22 for mention.

    Court remands man over possession of weapons

    An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of 25-year-old man, Simiyu Olayiwola, in Ilesha Prison over alleged possession of dangerous weapons.

    Olayiwola is facing a four-count charge bothering on unlawful possession of weapons and attempted stealing.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Fatima Sodamade, ordered that the defendant should be kept in prison due to the magnitude of the offences committed and adjourned the case until Sept.18 for mention.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Duro Adekunle, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 16 at about 11:30p.m., at Ilobu area of Osogbo.

    Adekunle said the accused was arrested by a police patrol team while dangerous items were recovered from him.

    “We recovered UTC knife, charms, and bullet from the accused at odd hours.

    “The accused was in possession of the dangerous weapons with intention to use the items to steal,’’ he said.

    According to him, the offences contravened Sections 27(1) (b) (11), 213, 430(1), and Section 4, and punishable under Section 509 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

    Father, son docked for stealing government vehicle in Osun

    A 67 year old father, AbdulYekin Salawudeen, his son Salawudeen Hammed 27 and one Sarafa Adeyemo 26, on Tuesday were arraigned before Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly stealing a Toyota Hiace Hummer vehicle belonging to the State Ministry of Justice.

    The accused were docked on a two-count charge bothering on felony and stealing.

    The police prosecutor, Mr Duro Adekunle told the court that the three accused persons committed the offense between 20 and 23rd of July at about 0600hrs at number 57 Church Street, Oke Oke- Onitea in Osogbo.

    According to him the accused persons conspired to commit felony to wit stealing.

    He said the  accused allegedly stole one Toyota Hiace Hummer Vehicle with Registration number  O5A-O4O5 engine number JTGSX23P4B6109833 valued at seven million naira (7,000,000) property of the Osun Ministry of Justice Osun state.

    He added that the offense committed by the accused is contrary to and punishable under Section 516,  383(1) and 390(9) (10a) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun 2002.

    The accused persons who had no legal representatives pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge preferred against them.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimoh Sodamade in her ruling granted them bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties in like forms.

    The case was therefore adjourned  till September 25 for hearing.

    Man docked for beating son to death for stealing neighbour’s belt

    A 45-year-old man, Sikiru Adebayo, was on Thursday arraigned in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating his son to death.

    Adebayo is facing a count charge of murder.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Duro Adekunle, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 31, at Abidogun Zone 7 area of Osogbo.

    Adekunle said that the defendant flogged his son, Uthman Adebayo to death after the son stole a belt belonging to a neighbour.

    He said the offence contravened Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun, 2003.

    Defence counsel, Mudashiru Balogun, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

    Balogun said that the case file released from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), indicted a manslaughter charge against his client.

    The plea of the defendant was not taken.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimoh Sodamade, ordered remand of the defendant in police custody and amendment of the charge to reflect manslaughter as indicated by the DPP.

    The case was adjourned until Aug. 11 for mention.
