  • Ebonyi APC suspends acting chairman

A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State yesterday said it had suspended indefinitely the factional Acing Chairman of the party, Mr. Eze Nwachukwu Eze, for allegedly conniving with some party chieftains to tamper with the party’s guidelines for tomorrow’s state congress.

Rising from a meeting of the party’s factional State Executive Council (SEC) in Abakaliki, the state capital, the Ben Nwaobasi-led faction said the suspension of Nwachukwu became inevitable to bring peace to the state APC.

It warned the public to henceforth be mindful of dealings with Nwachukwu and his co-party chieftains.

Ebonyi State APC had been factionalised since 2014 when the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, pulled out from the party to set up an office with some SEC members

The SEC members, led by Nwachukwu, who was then Nwaobasi’s Vice Chairman, purportedly announced the impeachment of Nwaobasi.

But the erstwhile chairman’s group, with the support of Senator Julius Ucha, a former governorship candidate under the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), faulted the impeachment for not following due process.

The factionalisation continued till the last ward and local government congresses, where both factions held parallel congresses.

Nwachukwu and some SWC members, last Monday, adopted as a working document a report presented to it by a three-man committee, led by Onu, which proposed a new zoning arrangement for Saturday’s state congress of the party.

  • Ebonyi APC reports Umahi to FG

The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday took the case of the state governor, Dave Umahi, to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, in Abuja.

They urged the Federal Government to call Umahi to order.

The Chairman of the state chapter of APC, Rev. Eze Nwachukwu, blamed the security challenges in the state to the governor.

According to him, the governor has penchant for crushing members of the opposition.

Umahi, he said, engages in wanton destruction of properties belonging to APC members and also brutalise them.

He said: “The former Secretary to the State Government who resigned recently confirmed in his resignation letter that the governor has a record of moving against those he is not on the same page with when he said he knew the governor will go after him, his family and friends.”

He also accused the governor of allegedly hijacking the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programmes in the state.

He said contrary to Umahi’s public support for President Muhammadu Buhari, the governor is against the President, describing him as a “cancer that must be avoided.”

  • Onu urges Ebonyi APC members to resist intimidation

Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, has urged the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State not to be intimidated by any one.

Onu made this call at his home town Uburu, in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state, while registering in the ongoing National Registration Exercise of the party.

According to him, party faithful who receive any form of intimidation or harassment should report such to the party’s national leadership and stakeholders.

“In states controlled by the APC, other parties are allowed to thrive because the party intends to build a new Nigeria where people would be free to exercise their franchise.”

Onu remarked that Ebonyi state remains a mainstay of the APC Onu, as the state belonged to the APC since 1999 when the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) and subsequently, the All Nigerian Peoples Party (APPP) held sway.

Chairman of the National Registration Committee to Ebonyi, Mrs Tina Adike commended Onu for his leadership qualities which have uplifted the party in the state, zone and country.

Ebonyi APC accuses Umahi of sponsoring attacks against Onu

The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has accused the state governor, Dave Umahi, of sponsoring attacks against the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

In a statement issued by the state acting chairman, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze, the APC alleged that the governor was involved in calculated attempts to damage the image of the minister, among other allegations.

“Governor Umahi has never ceased to sponsor opposition against Dr Onu. One will wonder what he stands to gain in his vain approach,” the chairman said.

The APC also alleged that the governor made efforts to stop Onu when he was being considered for the office of SGF by conspiring with opposing forces against him.

It will be recalled that shortly after the letter by Justice Nwali Syverster Ngwuta was made public, the governor allegedly referred to the people mentioned in the letter as political jobbers, a remark, the state APC claimed was targeted at Onu.

According to the APC, the governor’s remark was part of other efforts to damage the party’s rising profile in the state.

The party described Onu as a statesman, saying he responded without necessarily joining issues with Justice Ngwuta.

Ebonyi APC hails Buhari on infrastructure

The Ebonyi State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for his administration’s efforts to revive decayed infrastructure across the country, particularly in the Southeast.

The party noted that the region’s infrastructure had been neglected for too long.

In a joint statement by the party’s State Chairman, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze and the Southeast Zonal Secretary, Mr. Jonah Mkpuruka, APC praised the Buhari administration for quickly responding to the plight of Ndi-Igbo by awarding the contract for the reconstruction of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

The party also hailed the President for starting work on the Second Niger Bridge, which it said would boost socio-economic activities in the region and other parts of the country.

It thanked Mr. President for appointing their son, Mr. Elias Mbam, as the Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), adding that the humility, honesty, dedication and integrity of the average Ebonyi man would guarantee more appointments from Mr. President.

“This confirms Mr. President’s inaugural address where he stated that he ‘belongs to everybody and belongs to nobody’,” the party said.

The statement also poured encomiums on the Southeast leadership of the party for ensuring quick resolution of the internal crisis in the Ebonyi State chapter.

The party reiterated its commitment to work with all members, regardless of tendencies under the leadership of Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze. To this end, a seven-man Reconciliation Committee under the leadership of Dr. Mike Okoro has been set up to ensure genuine and complete reconciliation.
