Zion Prayer Movement denies attack claim on Ebuka Obi

The Zion Prayer Movement Outreach has dismissed as false a viral YouTube video claiming its Spiritual Director, Evangelist Ebuka Obi, was attacked by gunmen during the commissioning of a free hospital in Aguleri, Anambra State.

In a statement issued in Lagos by Evangelist Obi’s Media Adviser, Dan Aibangbe, the ministry described the video as “a wicked fabrication” designed to instill fear and discourage participation in its upcoming end-of-fast prayer crusade.

According to Aibangbe, the hospital commissioning was a huge success, attended by government officials, dignitaries, and a large crowd of worshippers, with no security breaches reported. He confirmed that Evangelist Obi and his team left Aguleri peacefully around 4 p.m. and arrived safely in Owerri, Imo State contradicting claims of an 8 p.m. attack.

“The fake video could be a ploy to attract traffic to the Blogger’s channel or a mischievous attempt to create fear among the faithful, especially those travelling from the diaspora for the crusade,” Aibangbe said.

He therefore urged everyone to disregard the video and attend the crusade without hesitation, assuring them of their safety and a spiritually uplifting experience. The enemy traditionally adopts fear and rumours as weapons of warfare!

He assured worshippers of top-notch security at the upcoming event in Ngor Okpala, Imo State, and urged them to disregard the rumours.

“Imo State (particularly Ngokpala the venue of the upcoming crusade) is a safe haven for worshippers and visitors alike and Security arrangements in and around the theatre of the crusade is planned to be top-notch in safety, crowd control, as well as personal protection for all comers. As such, enemies of the Church spreading falsehoods are already defeated and will be put to shame by the power of God,” Aibangbe stated.

He further advised the public to verify news from credible sources, avoid sharing unverified content, and remain vigilant. He added that the misleading video has been flagged to YouTube for sanctions

Ebuka Obi’s Zion ministry opens first free psychiatric hospital

Seraphic Homes Foundation, a non-profit charity organization set up by the Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, Evangelist Chukwuebuka Anozie Obi, recently opened the first free Psychiatric Hospital and Home for the Elderly in Anambra State.

The N600 million facility was inaugurated by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in Aguleri community, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state. It is designed to provide completely free psychiatric care to individuals battling mental illnesses.

This comes barely five months after the evangelist opened a gigantic Orphanage and Old People’s Home in Mgbirichi, Owerri, Imo State.

Evangelist Ebuka said that comprehensive care including diagnosis, treatment, medication, rehabilitation, accommodation, and welfare would be provided to patients all at no cost to them or their families at the Anambra facility.

He explained that the initiative was his childhood vision and that the plan was to touch lives across the country.

“This hospital will start functioning fully from next month. We are going to have four vehicles going everywhere in Anambra to pick up mad persons and bring them here to help them.

“This is my childhood vision. I have travelled to so many parts of the world. You will not see mentally challenged persons roaming the streets in the western world. It is only in this part of the world that this happens”, he stated.

Obi said that having completed the project as well as the Orphanage and Elderly People’s Home in Mgbirichi, near Owerri, Imo State, his next move would be to Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers and other parts of the country.

In his speech, Soludo commended the evangelist for the project, saying that the government would support it fully.

Based on the foundation’s request, the governor promised to construct the road leading to the hospital and also connect it to the national grid.

Soludo told the evangelist that the state government would also support the hospital financially considering that the medical services would be rendered to the patients free of charge.

Meanwhile, Seraphic Homes Foundation revealed that the clinic is Nigeria’s first ever free psychiatric hospital.

It said that this grand opening marked the beginning of a new chapter in the country’s healthcare and social support system where love, faith, and compassion complement medical science to transform lives.

“The vision behind the project is to create a society where the mentally challenged are no longer abandoned on the streets, but embraced, treated, rehabilitated and empowered to live meaningful lives”, Evangelist Ebuka added.

Evangelist not responsible for blogger’s detention, say lawyers

The legal team of the Founder of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, Evangelist Ebuka Obi, has said he was not responsible for the detention of blogger Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu (a.k.a “Ijele Speaks”).

Ofogbu is on trial before Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court Lagos over an allegation of threat to Obi’s life.

At a briefing at the weekend, Obi’s legal team – Kingsley Okigbo, Ugonna Okpara, and Gerty Nkechi-Iloegbunam, as well as his Media & Public Relations Consultant, Dan Aibangbe, described the reports (not by The Nation) as “baseless, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and give the church and its spiritual leader a bad name”.

The team said the defendant was initially granted bail on June 14, 2024.

When he could not meet the bail conditions, he applied through his counsel for a variation, which the prosecution did not object to.

The court granted his request by varying the bail conditions and adjourned trial till October 21 and 22, 2024.

The team said as far as the church knows, Ofoegbu perfected the bail conditions and ought to have been released.

The team, however, said when the case came up on October 21, 2024, Ofoegbu’s counsel informed the judge that his client was still in custody and that he was not brought to court by men of the Nigerian Correctional Services.

Justice Aluko then asked why Ofoegbu was still in custody having been granted bail.

According to the church legal team, the prosecutor told Justice Aluko that Ofoegbu was in prison custody over a separate legal matter involving defamation and cybercrime against one Daddy Hezekiah, founder of Living Christ Mission.

The legal team added that as a law-abiding citizen, Evangelist Obi owed it a duty to report any wrongdoing done to him to the police rather than take laws into his own hands.

“As far as we are concerned and know, Ofoegbu was granted bail by the court in July 2024 in a case involving allegations of threats to life reported by Evangelist Obi and we did not oppose his bail,” the lawyers said.

They also provided documents to prove that Ofoegbu’s bail was perfected.

“The ongoing detention of Ofoegbu, popularly called ‘Ijele Speaks’, has no connection whatsoever with Evangelist Ebuka Obi,” the team insisted.

They added that the report by Sahara Reporters was incorrect.

According to them, Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, led by Evangelist Obi, is committed to transparency and integrity.

“The spiritual leader remains focused on his mission of preaching the gospel, promoting peace, and healing broken homes.

“We call on the public and media outlets to disregard the fabricated report by Sahara Reporters and warn that legal steps may be taken against those spreading false information.

“We urge Nigerians to seek verified information and reject sensational narratives aimed at damaging reputations,” the team said.

“Odeshi”, which literally means “Does not leak or penetrate”, is a programme which usually officially marks the end-of-the-year activities for the ministry located at Zion Estate, Ago, Okota, Lagos.

Speaking at the midweek Prophetic and Deliverance programme on Wednesday, Evangelist Ebuka disclosed that “Odeshi” would be held next weekend, December 9 and 10, beginning from 10 a.m. each day.
