  • ECWA Church launches TV station

The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has launched a television broadcast station in Jos for the purpose of advancing the course of evangelism and propagation of spiritual messages to its teaming worshipers in Nigeria and countries of Africa.

The broadcast station is located at the church headquarters in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

The church now has a radio station, a news magazine and a television station all for the propagation of Christian gospels.

Outgoing President of the church, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Gado, while unveiling the station at the colorful ceremony on Saturday said the television station will add up to its existing radio station to reach out to Christian fateful across Africa.

According to Gado: “SIM-ECWA is among the first missionary outfits to use modern media to reach out with the ‘good news’ of salvation, teachings about faith, and Christian living in Africa.

“The addition of ECWA TV to its existing Radio ELWA and Today’s Challenge Magazine makes it possible for ECWA to explore a broad spectrum of ministries designed to provide platforms for Christians within and outside ECWA to proclaim the Gospel of God’s kingdom to the whole world.

“Through the ECWA TV, God’s eternal love to the world would be proclaimed in a world filled with prejudice, hate, conflicts and confusion.

“Another focus of ECWA TV is to address the daily challenges Christians and humanity face in a dynamic world that presents humanity with more choice of evil than godly standards.

  • Lawyer sues Access Bank for failed N40, 000 ATM Transaction, demands N100m

Lawyer sues Access Bank for failed N40, 000 ATM Transaction, demands N100m

Mr Musa Baba-Panya, an Abuja-based Legal Practitioner has instituted a suit in the FCT High Court against Access Bank Plc claiming N100 million for alleged defamation of his character.

Mr Chidi Ifeonye, the counsel to the plaintiff, who filed the suit on May 26, made the process available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

The plaintiff had instituted the suit as a result of the bank’s failure to reverse the N40, 000 he claimed was debited from his Diamond bank account while using the defendant’s ATM facility on March 11.

The plaintiff had described N100 million claims as general, aggravated and punitive damages for the defamation.

Baba-Panya said that the defendant’s alleged recalcitrant attitude caused him grave embarrassment, hardship and trauma.

“After a considerable waiting, no response of any sort came forth from the defendant, till date, thus was left with no option than to institute this action,’’ he said.

The plaintiff averred that the money in debt was meant to execute a printing project at the ECWA Church, Maitama on that fateful day.

“The development was most unpleasant to both the printer and I. It especially put me in unwarranted ridicule and scrutiny among the Church folks,’’ he said.

The plaintiff is seeking a declaration finding the defendant liable for the defamation of his character via its negligent conduct against him.

The plaintiff is also urging the court to compel the bank to write a letter of apology copying the Customer Relation Manager platforms of the CBN-interbank system.

He also prayed for apology letter to be forwarded to the Customer Relation Manager of Diamond Bank Plc and to the ECWA Church, Maitama, Abuja.

Baba-Panya was also seeking the award of N40, 000 being the alleged liquidated money in debt.

He also sought an interest award at inter-bank rate on the money debt effective March 11, until final judgment.

The plaintiff further asked for award of 10 per cent interest on the final judgment sum until final liquidation.

He urged the court to grant him an award of N500, 000 as cost of legal cost, including solicitor’s fees.

The matter has however not been slated for hearing.

Striking workers lock up Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos

Striking workers of the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, on Wednesday locked up the hospital’s gates, vowing to keep the hospital shut until their salaries were paid.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the hospital, reports that no one was allowed into the premises as the angry workers turned back patients and staff on morning and afternoon shift duties.

Efforts to obtain details of the grievances proved abortive as workers of the ECWA Church-owned hospital are barred from forming a union, but a worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, accused management of being insensitive to the welfare of workers.

“We do not have a union to articulate our concerns which has made us rather helpless, but management has taken our patience for granted,” the source said.

Mr Nuhu Asama, the hospital’s Director of Administration, told NAN that the workers’ anger was “based on emolument arrears owed them”.

“Management is working very hard to resolve the issues. We won’t want something like this to ever occur in this hospital again,” he said.

He promised that issues raised by the workers would be tackled “expediently”.

Asama apologised to members of the public, especially the patients, for the hitch, and stressed management’s commitment to providing qualitative service to its patients.

NAN reports that management later convinced the workers to open the gates after promising to tackle their concerns “without any delay”.

  • ECWA Church launches new album

He reigns, the maiden album of young talented musicians of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), has been launched in Lagos.

The three-track album tagged ECWA Mega praise project was produced in conjunction with Kingdom Business Partners, a consortium of business owners in the church.

The singers were drawn from the youth chapels of the church and established music stars raised in ECWA.

Popular artistes like Bunmi Adeoye (Omije Oju) and Yomi Oluwayomi of the Arugbo Ojo fame also contributed some of the songs in the album.

Chairman of the event, who is also the Lagos State Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources, Mrs. Iyabode Obasa, praised the artistes for their dedication to propagating the gospel.

“There is strength in unity, stick together. Some had come earlier but pride was their greatest weakness. You have done well by bringing your individual talents together to exalt the name of the Lord and I can assure you that if you continue this way, the sky will be your limit,” Obasa stated.

Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Pilgrim Welfare Board, Mrs. Bolajoko Fashola, admired the artistes but also warned them against self-glorification.

The Presiding Chaplain of the Christ Church the Light, Rev Verralls, said investment in kingdom projects remains the best.

Chairman of the Kingdom Business Partners, Elder Peter Arogundade, described the album’s launch as culmination of series of projects aimed at propagating the gospel.

He said: “There are things we noticed that our generation have not been able to do, we think the younger generations have a better chance of realising these things.

“Besides, we decided to bring the youths together to showcase their talents by singing gospels songs that have proper evangelism message as against what obtains in the society today.”
