Expect my goals in the Fed. Cup final — Ede

Enyimba’s striker, Ifeanyi Ede has said his brace against Lobi Stars is just a warning to their Federation Cup final opponent, Warri Wolves that they should be ready for war.

The Aba Millionaires fought hard before getting three goals in the last 15 minutes of the match but it was two goals off the boot of Ede that sent them on a victory path.

Ede already scored once against Lobi in the semi final of the Federation Cup played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin but he showed he had the antidote of the Makurdi Bombers after netting a brace yesterday.

“I don’t have much to say. What I will tell you is that we are going into the final of the Federation Cup full of optimism that we are going to win it. We defied the rain to beat Lobi today(yesterday) but against Warri Wolves on Sunday in Lagos there won’t be any hiding place for them,” Ede said.

Only the trophy will do — Yusuf, Ede boast

Enyimba of Aba’s head coach, Salisu Yusuf has asserted that only a victory at he final would be the ideal reward for the effort the Peoples Elephant have put into their game since the beginning of the second stanza of the league.

The Aba Millionaires beat Lobi Stars 1-0 in Benin yesterday to book another final ticket-their fourth in the last five editions and Yusuf who joined Enyimba at the beginning of the current season has disclosed that the club has worked to get to this stage.

The former Super Eagles’ Assistant Coach informed that all hands would be on deck to ensure that Enyimba win in the final this term to wipe the angst of their last two experiences in the final in 2010 and 2011 where they lost to Kaduna United and Heartland despite being the favourites in both finals.

He saluted the courage, steadfastness and the willpower of his wards for digging in deep to get the goal that sealed their place in the final at the expense of Lobi Stars.

Yusuf also praised Lobi for making the road to the final very difficult and holding their own with all determination and grit despite their precarious position on the league table.

“We are in the final and the only way to cap a good run of form is for us to win in the final. We have done our best and I will really praise the fighting spirits of the team. All the players were willing to work for each other and it showed against Lobi Stars.

“Lobi threw all what they had to it because they know that they are in a dangerous position in the league. They wanted to qualify for the continent through the Federation Cup but we did all we had to do to get a win on the pitch.

“I don’t like discussing about officiating but for us at Enyimba, it is only the trophy that will be ideal for all our labour,” Yusuf stated.

Enyimba’s goal hero, Ifeanyi Ede also reiterated that the Peoples Elephant’s target in the final is to lift the trophy.

He said he was happy to have scored the only goal but would be more than happy if they secure a third cup title for the club.

Ede set for Nembe City cracker

Enyimba striker, Ifeanyi Ede will be available for his side’s Glo Premier League Matchday 24 encounter against newcomers, Nembe City at the Aba Township Stadium on Sunday.

The former Enugu Rangers striker did not feature in his side’s 0-2 defeat at El-Kanemi Warriors in the Glo Premier League Matchday 23 at the Maiduguri Township Stadium. He was granted permission to recover strength after Super Eagles’ hectic 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) final fixture against the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Abidjan.

Ede said he has fully rested and is good to go in his team’s quest for maximum points against the Nembe-based side.

“I’m fully rested and will be available for the game against Nembe City. I’m hopeful to get the coaches’ nod to start in the game and I hope to give my best to ensure we grab the three points at stake.

“We can’t afford to toy with the three points after we were beaten in Maiduguri by El-Kanemi. We must fight very hard to reclaim the points so as to position ourselves for the challenge of the league title.

“The league table is tight from top to bottom that if you lose a point it takes you six, seven steps downward.

“Right now we’ve vowed to avoid dropping points both at home and on the road if we’ll remain relevant in the race for the title. Nembe City will be coming with the mindset to upturn the table or maintain the first fixture’s status quo which ended 1-1 apiece but I think we need the points more than they do.

“I’ll be excited to have my name on the scorer’s chart but the most important thing for us as a team is the three points, it’s irrelevant who actually scores the goal(s),” said the Super Eagles hitman to supersport.com.

The People’s Elephant are sixth on the log with 35 points from possible 69 though with a game at hand.
