    Ondo council boss distributes 5,000 educational materials

    Chairman of Akoko Northeast  Local Government Area of Ondo State,  Mohammad Olawale Mutiu, has distributed over 5,000 educational materials to secondary schools across the council area.

    Mutiu said the initiative was part of his administration’s commitment to supporting the education sector.

    Items distributed were bags, books, reuseable bottles and pen.

    Describing education as bedrock of development, Mutiu said investment in students would help them secure their future and contribute positively to the growth of the community and the state at large.

    He  said that plans were underway to renovate dilapidated classrooms in some of the schools and to provide additional facilities that would create a more conducive environment for learning.

    According to him, education remains the most powerful tool to fight poverty and insecurity, hence the need for all stakeholders to support government’s efforts in strengthening the sector.

    Schools that benefitted were the Agboriki Comprehensive High School, College Ikare Secondary School, and AUD Secondary School. Others included Osele Comprehensive High School, Comprehensive Secondary School Ikare, and Ise Akoko High School.

    Founder of Eduminds Africa, Miss Motunrayo Oyedele, said the gesture was geared towards making education more attractive to students while also assisting parents by reducing the financial burden of buying books for their children.

    Community leaders present at the distribution ceremony applauded the council chairman for his foresight and called on other public office holders to emulate the initiative.

    Non-profit organisation donates educational materials to Lagos schools

    A Non-Profit organisation, Oshodi Parapo Foundation has donated educational materials to 15 public schools in Oshodi, Lagos State.

    The Convener of the Initiative and CEO, Solomons Ltd, Mr. Solomon Edukugho

     said the gesture aimed at bolstering educational support for students in Lagos state.

    The foundation, according to him, is building upon its established charity projects focused on education, adding that the foundation is on a mission to provide essential learning materials to schools, starting with a donation of free exercise books.

    “Education has long been hailed as the key to unlocking a brighter future; yet for many students across the state, financial constraints have stood as insurmountable barriers to accessing quality education,” said Edukugho.

    “What we did today it’s just a way of giving back to the community, the government cannot do it alone.”

    Aside from the donations of educational materials, the Oshodi Parapo Foundation also sensitized  students and teachers on proper waste management.

    A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), The Nature’s Treasure, has given over 500 writing materials including pens and school bags to pupils in three public schools, in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.

    Etunrenre Primary School; C and S Primary School, Idiroko, and Erikorodo Primary School, Ikorodu are the three schools that benefited from the project, which was referred to as the “2023 back to school programme.”

    An Environmental activist and the Convener, Mrs. Mariam Olawale-Bakare  said that the NGO was committed to helping  vulnerable members of society, fighting for their rights, and fostering environmental sustainability.

    She educated pupils on the importance of preserving a clean and sustainable environment, emphasising that they were never too young to advocate for change for their surroundings.

     “Today, we have come to share love with you because you are part of nature and you ought to be cherished. We believe in the act of giving in order to put smiles in your faces. This is our first back to school programme and we won’t stop at this, we will be donating 500 note books, including pens and school bags.

    “We shall continue to reach out to you as we receive more from our donors too.  Strive for success and be ready to help others because you are all treasured.

    “Conserve the resources around you by not wasting water running from the tap, put off lights and fans, trash your waste properly inside waste bins and keep your environment clean always.” she said

    The NGO’s Media and Publicity Director, Ms. Fatimah Abdul guided the pupils through appropriate and inappropriate garbage disposal techniques.

     She also said: “I encourage all of you to share the message with your parents at home.”

    You should all shun illegal waste disposal practices such as littering, waste burning, patronage of cart pushers, dumping of refuse into drainage channels and canals as well as transporting waste from homes to road medians.”

    Representative of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Ikorodu Local Government Authority, Mrs Rafat Alagbe, thanked  the convener and her staff for the gift.

    She urged the pupils to make good use of the resources.
