Eduwo, Preko emerge LBA winners for May

Lobi Stars forward Kingsley Eduwo and FC Ifeanyiubah’s Ghanaian head coach Yaw Preko have been named League Bloggers Awards (LBA) Player and Manager respectively for the month of May.

Eduwo and Preko posted superior performances with their clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in the month under review to fend off other contenders in the running for both categories of awards.

It was a strong field of shortlists for the player’s award as Eduwo had to square up with last season’s top scorer Godwin Obaje of FC Ifeanyiubah, Enugu Rangers winger Osas Okoro and Plateau United left-back Daniel Itodo.

At the end, the list was trimmed to just two players, Eduwo and Obaje. The FC Ifeanyiubah man and his Lobi counterpart were tied on three goals apiece in May.

Eduwo scored in Lobi’s 1-0 win at Sunshine Stars and got a double against MFM FC while Obaje netted in FC Ifeanyiubah’s 3-0 success at Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and then scored the two goals that saw off four-time champions Kano Pillars in Nnewi.

However, Eduwo topped Obaje with an assist in their three-nil victory over MFM at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi on May 28 when he provided the assist for Sunday Akleche’s goal to wrap up a fine day in the

    office for Lobi.

Abdu Maikaba of Akwa United, Solomon Ogbeide of Lobi Stars and Chukwuma Agbo of Rangers were all in line for the manager’s award alongside Preko.

The next edition of LBA will be for manager and player for the month of June.

Lobi Stars striker Kingsley Eduwo has told ScoreNigeria.com.ng he hopes to score 20 goals this season to lift his NPFL club.

The former Sunshine Stars forward scored a brace in a Week 21 game to help Lobi beat his ex-club Shooting Stars 3-1 to take his goals’ haul to 10 this season with eight of the goals in the league.

“I am a striker and scoring goals is my business. I am always excited and happy when I score as it means a job well done,” Eduwo told SCORENigeria.

“My target is to score 20 goals this season.”

He has already hurt his two former clubs, Sunshine Stars and Shooting Stars, after he scored against them in straight games.

Eduwo keen on firing Lobi to top

Kingsley Eduwo is looking forward to scoring more goals for Lobi Stars in the second round of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

“I’ve scored five goals so far, I am hoping to score more goals but I’ve created a lot of assists which has helped my team,” Eduwo told Goal.

“I’m hoping to get more goals in the second half of the season.”

On the Ortom Boys’ plans to achieve their targets this season, Eduwo said: “Some new players have joined us and we are hoping to get a good outing.

“We are not in a good position right now, we want to be at the top because that’s where we belong. Paul Onobi, Samad Kadiri and some other guys have all joined us here at Lobi Stars. Quality officiating is very important, in most cases players do give up on away matches before they even play because they know officiating may be bias.

“I hope that the League Management Company (LMC) and the referees will work on giving us good officiating in every match in the second round.”

Sunshine want to make history, says Eduwo

Sunshine Stars forward Kingsley Eduwo has told AfricanFootball.com they are fired up to win the Nigeria league for the first time in the history of the Akure club.

‘The Akure Gunners’ have come very close on several occasions to be champions, but they are yet to crack it.

The former Shooting Stars striker, who was among the goals on Sunday when Sunshine Stars beat Bayelsa United 2-0 to stay on top of the league, said they will not relent in their efforts to be champions at the end of the season.

“Our target is to win the league and by the grace of God, we will,” Eduwo told AfricanFootball.com.

“We have come this far due to good trainings, tactics and talented players. We are all motivated to make history by winning the league which will be the first time in the club history. We won’t relent.”

The Flying Eagles invitee has scored twice this season for the league leaders, who have recorded 33 points from 17 matches, a point ahead of closest rivals Wikki Tourists.

  • Eduwo tops The Predictor’s XI

    Eduwo tops The Predictor’s XI

After Match Day 6 of the Glo Premier League, Sunshine Stars attacking midfielder, Kingsley Eduwo, stood out and deservedly claimed a spot in my team of the week.

It is the second consecutive time that Eduwo will make my team following another superb performance. Eduwo was the Wolves slayer in Sunshine Stars’ 3-2 win at the Akure Township Stadium on Sunday. He scored twice and assisted another as the Akure Gunners eased to a nervy win – their first this season.

The former 3SC man is now the top scorer of his club on three goals and one behind the league leading scorer, Isah Aminu of Kaduna United.

Wolves claimed two spots in my team. Goodluck Onamado did put in a good shift defensively at right – back in spite of coming under the cosh but it was Josiah Maduabuchi who stood out for the Seasiders in Akure and capped it with a wonder strike.

Ebele Obi, who is the older brother of Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel, did just enough between the sticks as Heartland earned their first point on the road at Kaduna United.

Ousmane Pape Sane, Chinedu Efugh, Iyasele Odili, Obinna Nwobodo, Prince Aggrey, Andrew Abalogu, Saibou Badarou and Bayelsa United’s two-goal hero at Nembe City, Peter Ebimobowei complete my team of the week.

Undoubtedly, Richard Bubagha of Bayelsa United becomes only the second coach to lead his team to a road win this season. Bubagha makes my team for the first time on the strength of his team winning 2-0 at Nembe City in the Bayelsa derby.

    The Predictor’s XI – Match Day 6

Ebele Obi (Heartland) – Goodluck Onamado (Warri Wolves), Ousmane Pape Sane (Enugu Rangers), Chinedu Efugh (Heartland), Iyasele Odili (Bayelsa United) – Obinna Nwobodo (Enugu Rangers), Prince Aggrey (Heartland), Kingsley Eduwo (Sunshine Stars), Josiah Maduabuchi (Warri Wolves), Andrew Abalogu (Enyimba) – Saibou Badarou (Heartland) and Peter Ebimobowei (Bayelsa United)

    Coach: Richard Bubagha (Bayelsa United)

  • Everybody wants Eduwo

    Everybody wants Eduwo

No less than four Globacom Premier League clubs are believed to be interested in signing Kingsley Eduwo, supersport.com can report.

Bayelsa United, Dolphins, Sharks and Sunshine Stars are the clubs in line for the services of Eduwo, who played for 3SC in the 2012/13 season. But discussions with the interested NPFL clubs are still ongoing.

“We are still talking to the clubs that are interested in Kingsley Eduwo,” Lanre Famakinwa, who represents the teenage striker, told supersport.com.

Eduwo, 17, is also attracting interest from clubs in Norway and Turkey but Famakinwa would rather not want to make comments on that just yet.

The striker scored three league goals for 3SC last season after joining the Ibadan side in the mid-season transfer window. He netted a brace of goals against champions, Kano Pillars and one against Bayelsa United.

The Liberty FC forward, who played on loan at 3SC last term, had scored five goals in six Cup games for his former club, Gateway FC this year.

Eduwo finished at Bols International High School in Lagos two years ago before joining Bridge Boys FC in 2012.
