Efe Omorogbe sheds light on mediation efforts in Mercy Chinwo, EeZee Conceptz conflict

Renowned entertainment expert and founder of Now Muzik Group, Efe Omorogbe has weighed in on the ongoing dispute between gospel artist Mercy Chinwo and her former label, EeZee Conceptz, responding to recent statements by Apostle Anselm Madubuko about his role as mediator in the case.

He weighs in as a music industry expert and as an individual present at their last mediation meeting.

Omorogbe, in a video he shared to his Instagram page, revealed he was present at a mediation meeting held on May 13, 2024, between Mercy Chinwo, EeZee Conceptz, Hilda Dokubo, Apostle Anslem Madubuko, Mena Ajakpovi, representatives of Mercy Chinwo and Judi Kay (their husbands).

He went on to state that the central issue discussed during the meeting was a transfer of master rights for music catalogues.

According to Omorogbe, master rights traditionally reside with record labels and can only be transferred through a negotiated buyout, not through coercion or force.

“Master rights are typically owned by the label under standard industryagreements,”Omorogbe stated.

“If an artist wants to acquire these rights, they must follow proper procedures. This includes conducting a valuation of the catalogue, making an offer to the label, and negotiating fair agreement. Forcing a label to relinquish master rights is not in line with global industry practices.”

Omorogbe addressed Apostle Madubuko’s recent claims that EeZee Conceptz obstructed previous attempts at reconciliation.

While acknowledging the challenges involved, he emphasized the importance of respecting contractual agreements and resolving disputes through transparency and professionalism.

He also noted that similar cases have been resolved through negotiation, referencing Burna Boy’s efforts to repurchase his master rights from Aristokrat Records for earlier recordings in his career.

He stressed that the proper route for the talents is to offer to buy the master rights at a fair valuation, which EeZee Conceptz can either accept or reject.

The meeting, held at the residence of a prominent reverend, included representatives from both parties, gospel artist Judikay, EeZee Conceptz’s legal counsel, and veteran actress Hilda Dokubo. Omorogbe stated that he attended the meeting to provide context and share insights on resolving disputes within the industry.

He concluded by saying: “This is an issue that can be resolved professionally and amicably. There is no need for compulsion, law enforcement, or undue escalation. Negotiation is the right path to resolve such matters.”

The dispute between Mercy Chinwo, Judi Kay and EeZee Conceptz has sparked significant public interest, with allegations and counter-allegations from both sides regarding financial impropriety, contractual breaches, and ownership of the artist’s music catalogue.

Eezee Conceptz calls out Mercy Chinwo over contractual dispute

Eezee Conceptz CEO Ezekiel ThankGod has accused gospel singer Mercy Chinwo of manipulating institutions to bully them despite receiving $625,000 from the label.

Ezekiel made the allegations in a series of Instagram posts.

According to ThankGod, Mercy Chinwo is attempting to claim ownership of a music catalog that Eezee Conceptz fully funded.

He claimed that Mercy Chinwo received quarterly royalties and immediate remittances from the 50/50 agreement but still breached their contract.

ThankGod recalled how Mercy Chinwo started as his backup singer and he housed her for months before securing an apartment for her.

He expressed disappointment that despite his investments in her career, Mercy Chinwo is trying to take over the catalog without contributing financially to it.

The dispute between Eezee Conceptz and Mercy Chinwo began in 2022 when the singer broke ties with the label over a disagreement.

The gospel musician had shared a cryptic message, begging God to protect her from dishonest people.

Eezee Conceptz urged Mercy Chinwo to post her bank statements and songs received before and after signing with the label.

He wrote: “$625,000 – that is how much you have received from Eezee Concept to date. But, you would prefer to insulate that part to keep deceiving people and weeping sentiments on how you signed a bad contract or had been treated badly. Same deal you desperately pursued me for years and had to get third parties to impress on Eezee Concept to sign you.

“Despite offering a 50/50 earnings ratio. You are still trying to weaponise law enforcement and religious organizations, all in a bid to take over a catalog you did not spend one Naira on. You’ve received over $635,000 to date. Still, this situation persists. While claiming and singing it all for Jesus, your actions paint a different picture.

“You started as my backup singer in the studio and on stage. Unlike some Music talent producers and Label executives, it is not something I stumbled into by marriage or association.

“It’s disheartening to see lies being spread and efforts to weaponize law enforcement and religious affiliations against me. I invested my blood, swear, and hard-earned money into you. I housed you for months before securing two-bedroom apartments for both you and your band leader.

“You breached our contract by failing to deliver a third album and withholding funds meant for the label from content and events. When this happened, I didn’t attack you. Instead, I reached out, proposing a reconciliation meeting and even suggesting an independent audit for transparency.

“Last year, I was illegally detained by EFCC for nine days, far from Lagos, where our business took place. Under duress, $274,000 was extorted. Yet, I still didn’t resort to dragging you publicly. As a law-abiding citizen, I chose to follow the legal processes outlined in the contract you signed with Eezee Conceptz.

“If your hands are clean, why avoid the Multidoor resolution process in our agreement? Why manipulate in situations to bully me? You deny the contract when it speaks of your obligations and our benefits, but quote it when it benefits you. Discrediting the same document that you have hugely benefited from.

“Kindly post your bank statements and songs received 3 years before you were signed and 3 years after you signed. You’re now attempting to claim ownership of a catalog I fully funded. A body of work you never contributed financially to. For years, you’ve received both quarterly royalties and immediate remittances from the 50/50 agreement, but this greed and betrayal that persists are beyond comprehension.

“Let me remind you. I founded the label that built your platform, put food on your table, and gave you opportunities beyond your dreams. Through God’s grace, u did this and no one can erase the role Eezee Conceptz played in building your influence.

“I’ll continue to act lawfully, trusting the legal system and God to defend my peace and reputation……

“I appreciate the multitude of prayers, support, and love. May truth and justice prevail”
