She further discovered that the usually began the sale of fake tickets at 6am before resuming at the council secretariat at 8am to collect the genuine receipts.

In a chat with newsmen, Ogbemudia said it was shocking for her to know that the people she empowered with jobs would be the ones to destroy the system.

According to her, “We discovered cash and fake receipts booklets from the two revenue enforcers. It was a driver that told me he bout the tickets at Uselu Market.”

The suspects however denied selling fake tickets to commercial motorists.

According to Monday, “Those receipts are not fake. They were given to us by staff of the local council.

Iyoha said, “I was shocked when they said the receipts are fake. All the tickets I sell everyday are collected from the council secretariat.”

Members of the Uwelu Community in Egor local government area have dismissed alleged dangers associated with female genital mutilations otherwise known as female circumcision.

They said circumcised females are not prone to prostitution neither do circumcision causes infection in females.

The Uwelu community spoke when the Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON) led advocacy visit to the community as part of activities to mark the international day of zero tolerance to FGM.

Spokesman for HERFON, Dr. Gabriel Ogbeide had told the women that FGM could lead to severe bleeding, complications at child, infections and trauma death.

  • Fire razes over 50 shops in Edo community

fire on Monday night razed over 50 shops at the popular Edaiken Market at Uselu, Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

The fire was said to have started at 8.30pm and spread to several shops.

But the local government chairman, Victor Enobakhare, said the fire was a sabotage by those who opposed the reconstruction of the market.

Enobakhare donated N1 million to the victims as a palliative measure.

He said: “I want to say that it was an act of sabotage. The area involved doesn’t have electricity because they don’t sell at night. They close as early as 7pm.”

Many of the victims were lamenting over the losses they incurred when our reporter visited the market yesterday.

A trader in the market, Mr. Chidera Nwakeze, said he just stocked his four shops with rice, beans and other food items before the fire occurred.

Nwakeze said: “I came to the market around 8.30pm and discovered that it was on fire. But before I could get to my shops, they had already been consumed with all my goods gone.”

Another victim, a businesswoman in the market who spoke in confidence, said the fire was a conspiracy by Igbo traders because they were the major victims.

“I don’t think that the fire was caused by any electrical fault because the section which got burnt had been without power supply.

“Someone must have set fire on this area of the market because it is dominated by Igbo traders,” she said.
