  • Man docked over sexual intercourse with goat

    A 20-year-man, Promise Okon, on Thursday appeared before an Egor Magistrates’ Court in Benin for alleged sexual intercourse with a she goat.

    Okon, whose address was not provided, is facing a count-charge of having sexual intercourse against nature, but he pleaded not guilty.

    The Prosecutor, Mr Osayomabo Omoruyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 15, in Egor area of Benin.

    Omoruyi said the accused was caught having sexual intercourse with the goat by some neighbours, who arrested and took him to the police station.

    According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 214 (2) of the Criminal Law of Edo State.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Egho Braimah, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

    Braimah, however, transferred the case to another magistrate court and adjourned the case until December 27.

    Man in prison for ‘stealing’ eight year old minor

    An Egor Magistrates’ Court sitting in Benin City, the capital of Edo State Wednesday sentenced a 25-year old man, Ekene Nwane to 14 years imprisonment for stealing an eight-year old minor, Success Imasuen for money ritual.

    It was gathered that the convict dressed in a red gown, grabbed and hypnotized his victim while the primary-two pupil was playing with her sister closed to their mother’s shop.

    The mother, Everlyn Imasuen, an Okrika clothes seller after making fruitless attempt to rescue her daughter from the convict alerted the passers-by for help which led to the arrest of the convict.

    Prosecutor Osayomwanbor Omoruyi who tendered a confessional statement and red gown as exhibits, told the court the offence was committed at No. 62 Siluko Road, Benin City on the 19th of September, 2017.

    He said the offence is punishable under Section 371 of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol. II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo State.

    The convict pleaded guilty to the one count charge leveled against him. He vowed not to engage in such a crime anymore.

    “Please forgive me, I will not do it again”, he pleaded.

    In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Igho Braimoh sentenced the convict to 14 years imprisonment without an option.

    Man remanded in prison for defiling friend’s 12-year -old daughter

    A 65-year-old man, Friday Azala, was on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by an Egor Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly having canal knowledge of his friend’s 12-year-old daughter.

    Azala was accused of defiling the girl at No. 6, Agho Street, off Textile Mill road, Benin, on April 9, 2017.

    According to the prosecutor, Ben Omoruyi, the accused is a friend to the victim’s father, who is bed-ridden, and always comes to the house on the pretence of seeing his friend.

    Omoruyi told the court that the accused had defiled the girl “several times before he was caught in the act.”

    He also said the accused always lured the girl with N20, to have his way.

    When his plea was taken, Azala, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The accused said he only embraced the girl and had never had sex with her.

    “I did no such thing as having canal knowledge of her, I embrace her only on five
    occasions, and I also released on those occasions.

    “Am only been lied against by her mother because we had a misunderstanding. We are neighbours.”

    The Chief Magistrate, Igho Braimah, who ordered Azala to be remanded in prison, adjourned the case till April 19, for hearing.

  • Man arraigned for rape

    A 30-year old man identified as Odion Igiogbe, has been arraigned before an Egor Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a 28-year-old girl.

    The incident happened on February 15 at No 50 Ugbowo road in Egor local government area.

    Police Prosecutor, C.S.O Nnamdi, informed the court that the accused did unlawfully rape the 28-year-old girl by having unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of rape.

    Presiding Magistrates, Mr W.E. Aziegbemhin, granted the accused bail in sum of N250,000 and a surety in like sum who must be a worker in any government establishment.

    Aziegbemhin adjourned the case to April 19 for hearing.
