He said: “I want to sincerely congratulate my fellow Muslims in our dear state and all over Nigeria for successfully witnessing the end of this year’s Ramadan fasting period, a period that came with tough spiritual challenges that were designed to strengthen our Iman.

“At the heart of our faith and a major demand on all faithful is the requirement to commit ourselves to wholesome living. This entails love for one another, love for fellow humans regardless of creed, region and ethnicity, love for our state and love for country.

“It is important that we continue to live with the spirit of love, peace, sacrifices, holiness and harmony which Ramadan requires and it is important that Nigerians must become better citizens in line with the teachings of Prophet Muhammed by supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to succeed.”

Eid-el-fitr: Let’s hold fast lessons from Ramadan – Senate leader

Senate Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, has urged Muslims to hold fast the lessons of Ramadan.

Bamidele, who made the call in a Sallah message in Abuja on Wednesday, rejoiced with the Muslim faithful as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr nationwide.

He said: “Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of the 2024 Ramadan which started from March 10 and ended on April 9.

“Within this timeframe, we must have learnt a lot of lessons, especially at this critical time in our history.

“Ramadan, I strongly believe, has again reminded us about the essence of forgiving others, ministering of compassion to the less privileged, respect for human dignity, promoting peaceful co-existence and upholding propriety and piety in all facets of life.

“This is what we must all embrace irrespective of our ethnic and religious leanings.

“These lessons are not meant for the period of Ramadan only. Also, they are, indeed, principles and values, which should always guide and shape the life of every Nigerian,” he said.

He further said: “Now that Ramadan has come to an end, these lessons should reflect in the way we support our government to resolve the myriad of internal challenges that we are collectively facing as a federation.

“It should reflect in the way we intercede; the more for this federation to sustain the gains of economic stability and political cohesion that we have started experiencing in recent times.

“It should also reflect in our approaches to conducting business; running government at all levels and discharging civic responsibilities on a daily basis.

“Since the sustained implementation of pro-people macro-economic policies under this government, stability has started returning to economic and fiscal spaces.”

According to him, against ₦1,900 per dollar in February 2024, the value of the naira is now ₦1,117.5 per dollar as at Wednesday.

“This represents a gain of about 42 per cent within the space of two months.

“Besides, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has settled a backlog of 7 billion dollars valid foreign exchange.

“The federal government has paid back a whopping sum of ₦4.83 trillion out of ₦30 trillion ways and means it obtained from the CBN. And the flow of foreign direct investments is improving by the day,” he said.

Bamidele said with these indices, the consumer price index, which measured inflation, would no doubt begin to drop significantly by mid-year as the government sustains the drive for economic and fiscal stability.

He added that the National Assembly was committed to providing much-needed parliamentary buffers to support key public institutions to efficiently discharge their mandates consistent with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.
