    Man, 34, arraigned for parading self as member of Eiye confraternity

    Dr. Kingsley Osagiobare, 34, was yesterday arraigned at an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State for allegedly parading himself as a member of a confraternity.

    Osagiobare, whose residential address was not provided, was charged with belonging to unlawful cult.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Jasper Tellang, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on October 23, at about 11pm at Idi-Ape, Ibadan.

    Tellang alleged that Osagiobare and others at large, paraded themselves as members of Eiye Confraternity (a.k.a. Air Lord).

    He alleged that it was an unlawful cult, whose members’ intent was to incite acts of violence and criminality on innocent members of the public.

    According to Tellang, the offence contravened the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The Magistrate, Mrs M. M. Olagbenro, granted the defendant bail for N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

     She adjourned the case till December 6 for hearing.

  • Six feared killed in cult clash in Ogun

    Six people were yesterday feared killed in a cult clash involving suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity and a rival cult, the Eiye Confraternity.

    The Nation learnt that the cults lost six persons – three on each side, in a reprisal, which occurred at Tosukun, Sagamu.

    But Police Commissioner Bashir Makama told reporters that the case was a fresh one, stressing that one person was killed and that the remains had been deposited in a mortuary.

    Makama, who has just replaced former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Iliyasu, said when details of what happened emerged, the information would be communicated to reporters.

    He stated that a police inspector, Sunday Ogundapo, who was said to be missing, but actually escaped from hoodlums during the Ifo mayhem on Sunday, had reappeared with injuries inflicted on him by his assailants.

    Makama said two other officers who conducted themselves unprofessionally in connection with the Ifo incident, had been identified and kept in police custody.

    The police boss, who spoke while parading over 75 suspects, including 17 robbery suspects, kidnappers and cultists at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, said the sale of human parts was one of the challenges the command was facing.

    He said he could not understand why people indulged in such heinous act, adding that the command had deployed tactical measures to arrest the situation.

  • Why cult killings can’t stop in Edo, by suspect

    A suspected member of Eiye confraternity, Leviticus Okon, has said that cult killings cannot stop in the state because it’s a generational war.

    Leviticus was paraded alongside 81 suspected cultists arrested in connection with the ongoing cult war.

    Police described Leviticus as a dangerous killer cultist.

    Leviticus told newsmen only one of his victims died while the other escaped with bullet wound.

    He was arrested along Second East Circular road while he and other cultists were on their way to kill a rival cult member

    He said: “The first person I shot did not die. The other one died. We were on our way to kill another person when we were arrested.

    “The one we killed is a bus conductor. He is a member of Aye. The fight is generation fight. The fight does not end.”

    In Uromi, the police arrested one Micheal Ebhodaghe and Henry Ighalo for selling arms and cartridges to cultists in the locality.

    An army deserter, Private Mbawa Lucky was paraded for belonging to one of the cult groups.

    The Edo Police Commissioner, Mr Muhammed Dan Mallam, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

  • Command nabs four for alleged murder, cultism

    Ekiti State Police Command has arrested four persons for alleged cultism and murder.

    The suspects are reportedly members of Eiye confraternity, who were allegedly involved in the killings of members of Black Axe “AIYE” confraternity in Ekiti and Ondo states recently.

    Among those nabbed by the Special Anti- Robbery Squad are Ayodele Ayodeji, 31, Olamide Olurunsola, 43, Gbenga Aluko, 29, and Adewale Adekunle, 23, all from Ifaki-Ekiti. Others escaped.

    A statement by Police Commissioner Mr. Asuquo Amba in Ado-Ekiti yesterday said the suspected cultists claimed that they surrendered their guns to a prominent king in Ondo State in 2017, but the claim was found to be false.

    Investigation showed that the suspects had been using a Toyota Camry Car with number plate KJA 710 FF to perpetrate the killings of victims. The vehicle has been recovered and is in police custody.

    Amba said items recovered from the suspects are: one cutlass, charms, one Dell laptop, a foreign woman photograph, two Ipad phones and one Infinix phone.

    He said:  “On February 11, about 2:30pm, at Ifaki-Ekiti, effort intensified by the team led to the arrest of some members of Eiye Supreme Confraternity Group. The suspects confessed to be members of Supreme Eiye Confraternity and

    claimed that their guns were in the custody of their fleeing colleagues.”

    The CP said the police have also arrested Kehinde Adams and Adeyanju Timilehin for allegedly receiving stolen property.

    “On February 8, the suspects were arrested with the aid of tracking technology.

    They confessed to have bought a stolen Infinix Hot 5 phone from Adeniyi Adewumi and Sunday Idowu, who belong to a robbery syndicate, who had earlier been arrested, charged to court and remanded in prison custody.”

    Amba said the suspects would be arraigned after investigations.

     

  • Cultists on rampage in Benin, kill eight

    The ongoing cult war between the Aye and Eiye confraternities has led to the killing of eight persons in different parts of Bénin City and environs within the past three days.

    On Monday night, one undergraduate identified as John Terry was killed along Upper Uwa Street off M.M Way Bénin City.

    Sources said he was engaged as polling agent to one of the political parties in the February 16th botched general elections.

    Eyewitnesses said Terry was beaten to death with rods and sticks by his assailants.

    A father of four identified as Africa was on Tuesday morning hacked to death at Aifuwa Junction after shots fired at him did not penetrate his body.

    The corpse of Africa was dumped at the Central Hospital mortuary.

    At Three House area at Upper Sokponba in Ikpoba-Okha local government area, traders and shop owners scampered for safety as suspected cultists robbed passers-by and shot into the air.

    Two boys belonging to rival cult group were shot dead.

    A pharmaceutical shop owner who pleaded anonymity said over 20 persons ran into his shop when the shooting started and they laid on the floor to avoid being hit by stray bullets.

    He said traders around the area now close their shops from 7:30pm since on Sunday.

    According to him, “I was inside my shop when I received a call that I should lock my shop and go home because the area was about to scatter. As I stood up to tell my boys to lock up, I saw people running into my store to take refuge.

    “All of us were on the floor while shootings were on. We later heard many people were robbed while two boys were killed.”

    Another witness said policemen later stormed the area and started arresting innocent persons.

    On Sunday night, the Manager of the hotel owned by Osaze Odemwingie, Osato Okunkpolor, was killed by cultists who engaged in a shootout.

    In December last year, Governor Godwin Obaseki has unveiled a new security architecture in the State, known as “Operation Wabaizigan” (Stop All Bad Things) with brand new 30 Hilux Vans, 50 Patrol Vehicles equipped with Communications gadgets, two APC vehicles and motorcycles.

    Edo Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the Police has set up security measures to make sure the city is safe and well protected.

    On critics of the “Operation Wabaizigan”, Nwabuzor said it was too early to condemn the security outfit.

    He urged residents in the state to be patient as the focus was on the general election.

    A security source said the renewed killings since last Saturday are linked to the money released by political parties for the now postponed general elections.

  • Police arraign two men for being members of “Eiye confraternity”

    Two men who police accused of being members of the “ Eiye confraternity”, on Friday appeared in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.

    The police charged Funmilayo Oluwakomiyo  and John Fredrick,with felony and unlawful association.

    The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendants and eight others at large on Nov. 15 around 11: 30 p.m., at a secluded bush in Idepe Okitipupa did conspired to commit felony.

    Omoyeigha said that the defendants and their accomplice held secret meeting aimed at disturbing the peace of the community.

    He said that the defendants committed offences punishable under sections, 516 and 64(a), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Dickson Ogunfuyi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N50, 000 each and one surety each in like sum.

    Ogunfuyi ordered that the sureties must produce evidence of a year tax clearance as part of bail conditions.

    He adjourned the case until Dec. 14 for further hearing.

  • Police arraign suspected cultists, terrorising Lagos community

    Eight men who allegedly terrorised members of the public, were on Monday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos by the Police.

    The men are listed as: Olarigbe Olanrewaju, 22; Moses Ademola, 23; Evans Ezikiel, 20; Taiwo Oluwasegun, 19; Ganiyu Bashiru, 21; Wasiu Balogun, 29; Sundau Omete, 24; and Tunde James, 20.

    The men were alleged to have deployed dangerous weapons in a manner to cause breach of peace in the Oke-Iranle area of Ajah, in Lagos.

    They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society and unlawful display of arms in the public.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 each by the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje.

    The magistrate in her ruling ordered the accused to produce two sureties each in like sum.

    In addition, the sureties should show evidence of tax payments, to the Lagos State Government.

    Earlier, Police Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 8 at Oke-Iranle area of Ajah, in Lagos, at about 11:00 p.m.

    He said that the eight accused, conspired with themselves as members of Eiye Confraternity and engaged themselves in a fight with another group of unknown boys with dangerous weapons.

    “Some members of the public also sustained serious injuries while some properties were destroyed.

    “They were arrested by a team of police men, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Langbasa Division, Ajah and transferred to the Anti- Cultism Unit, State CID, Yaba on Nov. 9’’ Ihiehie said.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 42 (a), 51 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, (Revised).

    The case was adjourned until Dec. 18 for mention

  • Suspected cultist gets N50, 000 bail

    A teenage mechanic, Adeyemi Ridwan, yesterday appeared at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly belonging to the ‘Eiye’ confraternity.

    Ridwan, 18, who lives at Onitire Street, Pako, Itire, Mushin, Lagos, had pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society and possession of weapons.

    Prosecutor Lucky Ihiehie alleged that the offences were committed on October 27 about 5:30pm at Pako bus stop, Itire, Mushin, Lagos.

    He said the accused and five others at large were arrested by the Insp. Boniface Ukoha surveillance team on Itire Road, by Pako bus stop, following a tip-off.

    Ihiehie alleged that the accused was arrested with a short cutlass hidden inside his jeans trousers.

    The prosecutor said the case was reported to the Anti-Cultism Unit, Gbagada, on October 28.

    Magistrate E. Kubeinje admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.

    She said the sureties must show proof of means of livelihood, with evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government for two years.

    Kubeinje adjourned the case till December 4 for hearing.

     

  • Three men docked over alleged cultism in Ogun

    Three men, Femi Hassan, 39, Gabriel Benson, 25, and Wasiu Ogunjobi, 19, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly belonging to a secret cult, `Eiye Confraternity’.

    The accused, of no fixed address, were facing a two-count charge of unlawful possession of firearms and belonging to a secret cult.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused persons and others still at large conspired to belong to an unlawful society called Eiye Confraternity.

    According to Mustapha, the accused men committed the offences on Feb. 27 at about 11.00 p.m. at Gasline area, Ijoko, Ota.

    He said that the accused persons conspired to create fears into the minds of residents by threatening people with cutlass, axes and knife.

    Mustapha said the offences contravened Section 3 and 5 of the Secret Cult (Prohibition and Special Provision) Act Laws of Ogun State, 1999.

    The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Matthew Akinyemi, granted them bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

    Akinyemi said that one of the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.

    He also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government and their addresses should be verified by the Police.

    The case was adjourned until April 4, for definite hearing.

    Court remands eight men for cult membership

    An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, ordered that eight men, be remanded in Ile-Ife prison custody for allegedly belonging to a proscribed group, Eiye confraternity.

    The suspects are: Femi Owotade, (a.k.a Water), 30; Omisope Ismail, 25; Elujulo Olamilekan, 25; Olatunbosun Oyeyemi, 20; Kolawole Makinde, 28; Adedoja Ademola, 27; Ademola Adedayo, 23 and Oladipupo Waheed, 19.

    Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, who gave the ruling, asked the counsel to the accused, Messrs Niyi Akole and Ben Adiereje to come with a written application for their bail.

    Ijiyode ordered that the accused be kept behind bars pending the advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

    He said that his court lacked jurisdiction to try the accused and they would be arraigned in a proper court of law.

    The eight suspects are facing a three-count-charge of conspiracy, engaging in secret cult society and possession of dangerous items.

    The Police Prosecutor, Insp Christian Olajide, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 12 around 2:30 p.m. at Ita-Olopo House, Igbotapa Area, Ile-Ife.

    Olajide said that the accused conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit: being members of an unlawful society.

    He said the accused engaged in an unlawful society, named “Eiye Secret Cult confraternity”.

    The prosecutor said that among the dangerous items found on the accused at the point of their arrest included: UTC axes, charms, cutlasses, among others, which they could not give a satisfactory account.

    The offence, he said, was contrary to and punishable under Sections 64 (a), (b), 430 and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

    The case was adjourned to Aug 31.
