We will challenge you on Ondo motor park project, Ekimogun Roundtable tells Rep member Makinde

The Ekimogun Roundtable has threatened to challenge what it described as legislative deceit around all public/constituency projects in the Ondo community.

It was reacting to a public advertisement by Hon. Abiola Makinde, member, representing Ondo East/West federal constituency, announcing his conjunctive/partnership stake with the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NIBBRI) in a groundbreaking ceremony of a motorpark project in the constituency scheduled for August 24 in Ondo City.

In a statement by its acting secretary, Ms Christiana Ayodele, the group averred that there are clear distinctions between government-fully funded projects and private or joint venture projects, claiming that in the case of the Ondo City Motorpark Project, the Federal Government holds 100 percent equity being the sole financial of the project.

The group said Hon Makinde is a serving lawmaker under the payroll of the same Federal Government, arguing whatever legislative input is part of his legislative duties as a lawmaker.

It accused Makinde of arrogating a conjunctive or partnership stake in a project fully funded by the Federal Government, saying it was politics taken too far and will not go unchallenged.

‘’Before a conjunctive or partnership stake can be announced, parties must come with equity contributions in an agreeable form.

“We, as a people are more interested in the entire procurement detail in terms of source of funds, cost implication, scope of work, bill of quantity and other contract detail rather than such an inexistent stake announced by Hon Makinde,” the statement explained d.

The Roundtable stressed: “Politicians should stop acting in a manner suggestive of rendering favour to the people, and Hon.

“Makinde should be reminded that legislators are not empowered to engage in executive functions in a manner that arrogates project sponsorship or procuring entity functions to them as this amount to clear misinformation.

“The only entity recognised in an entire procurement process under the country’s Public Procurement Act and as far as this Motorpark project is concerned is NIBBRI, any other conjuctive/partnership arrangement with any person becomes a procurement infraction.”

The Roundtable commended NIBBRI for its effort of citing the project in Ondo City, assuring that Ondo people are accommodating and will continue to support NIBBRI in all its developmental efforts to the City.

The Ekimogun Roundtable, a socio-economic group of Ondo indigenes at home and in Diaspora, has berated Ondo West/East federal constituency representative Hon Abiola Makinde over what it described as his weak defence to a serious allegation bordering on poor legislative performance.

The group in a statement  by its acting secretary Christiana Ayodele, said Mankinde has not attended to concerns of his constituents which borders on his legislative performance.

It alleged since the election of Makinde, Acts of Parliament and other federal legislative activities look like vestiges and artifacts to his constituents.

The group stated Makinde’s response shows lack of  understanding of his duties as a lawmaker and looks pretty like a drowning man looking for anything to hold on to.

“Our enquiries are basic and direct, and instead of him to give a precise and accurate response, he resorted into baseless and unfounded rhetorics deceiving himself by describing  Ekimogun Roundtable as faceless.

“None of his responses spoke about his plenary attendance and whereabout  for the past 7weeks precisely 2nd of June before the house goes on recess just two days ago.

“The Ekimogun Roundtable is not a political organisation and we are not ready to throw political banters. We have done what we are supposed to do as responsible organisation by approaching the National Assembly for information,” the body stated.

It stated Makinde is still wallowing in the euphoria of the past, not knowing “our people have woken and ready to take appropriate constitutional steps that will correct all his errors and misrepresentations.”
