    Education Management professor Mrs. Edith Olufunmilola Olorunsola will tomorrow deliver the 89th Inaugural Lecture of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

    According to the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof J.B. Ayodele, the lecture will hold at the University Auditorium.

    He gave the lecture’s title as “Revitalisation of Nigerian universities: A fulcrum for workers’ job satisfaction and performance”.

    The 29th convocation of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, (EKSU) held last Saturday was a celebration of excellence and distinctions as three distinguished individuals were conferred with honorary degrees in recognition of their outstanding contributions to nation -building and humanity, RASAQ IBRAHIM reports

    The 29th convocation ceremony of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), will forever be etched in the memories of all who witnessed it. The event, which took place last Saturday, was a grand celebration of excellence and distinction, as three distinguished individuals were conferred with honorary degrees.

    The Leader of the 10th Senate, Senator Michael Bamidele, Dr. Zach Adedeji, and former Minister of Finance, Dr. Mansur Muhtar were recognized for their selfless services and contributions to the nation’s development as well as advancing the cause of humanity.

    These honorary degrees were conferred in acknowledgment of their exemplary leadership, commitment to excellence, and service to humanity. The event was a celebration of their stellar achievements and a testament to EKSU’s unwavering commitment to recognizing outstanding individuals.

    The ceremony which atttracted arrays of distinguished  gathering of dignitaries including captains of industry, scholars, political figures and first class traditional rulers from within and outside the state served as a veritable platform to honor the honorees’ contribution to the society.

    Among them are the Senate President, Godswil Akpabio, 20 Senators, Ekiti state Governor,Biodun Oyebanji who is the visitor to the university,members of the House of Representatives,his Deputy, Chief Monisafe Afuye, Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibril Barau, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi,  Speaker Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, among others.

    The event was a moment of pride for the university, its students, and the state of Ekiti as a whole. It was a celebration of the achievements of three accomplished individuals and the graduating students, who have worked tirelessly to earn their degrees.

    Senate Leader  was awarded Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his significant contribution to the varsity, Nigeria and the international community as well as distinguished career in law and politics. His commitment to justice, equity, and fairness has earned him a reputation as a champion of the people.

    Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), received a Doctor of Management (Honoris Causa) degree in recognition of his exceptional leadership and contributions to taxation and revenue management. His expertise in taxation has been instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s tax policies.

    Muhtar, a former Minister of Finance, was garlanded with a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) degree in recognition of his outstanding contributions to finance and economics. His commitment to transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility has meritoriously earned him a reputation as a leading expert in the field.

    The honorary degrees awarded to these individuals demonstrate the ivory tower’s irrevocable commitment to excellence as well as its recognition of outstanding contributions to society. The ceremony was a celebration of achievement and a reminder that hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence  can lead to greater things.

    The event will be remembered for years to come, inspiring future generations of students, staff as well as the alumni of the ivory tower to strive for excellence and make meaningful contributions to nation-building and humanity.

    Beyond the conferment of the honorary degree, the institution’s  management also celebrated academic excellence as outstanding  graduating students were rewarded for their exceptional academic achievements.

    The outstanding graduating students were honored for their hard work and dedication. Oluwapelumi Oyelakin of the Department of Statistics in the Faculty of Science emerged as the   overall best graduating student with an outstanding CGPA of 4.89/5.0.

    In the Faculty of Law, Oluwanifemi Emmanuel Ogunmodede was recognized as the best male graduating student with a CGPA of 4.66/5.0, while Catherine Ayomide Opadokun was honored as the best female graduating student with a CGPA of 4.73/5.0.

    The award winners received cash prizes, with Ogunmodede receiving N1.5 million and Opadokun receiving N1.2 million for the academic brilliance. The Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe also announced award of  N500,000 to every student graduating with a First Class Degree in honor of his late Mrs. Gbemisola Olutayo Olowolafe.

    The Ekiti State University (EKSU) has explained the reason why its Governing Council and Senate decided to confer honorary doctorate award on the Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

    The university, in a letter by its Registrar, Mr. Ife Oluwole, said it was in recognition of Bamidele’s contribution to the development of the institution, Nigeria and the international community.

    Bamidele, according to the letter, will be honoured alongside Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zach Adedeji, and Chairman, Governing Board, Bank of Industry, Dr. Mansur Muhtar, during its next convocation scheduled to hold on March 29, 2025.

    The letter said: “I have the pleasure to inform you that the Governing Council and Senate of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, have resolved to honour you with the conferment of an honorary degree, Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) at the forthcoming convocation scheduled to take place on 29th March 2025.

    “The conferment of the degree is purely in recognition of Senator Bamidele’s significant contributions to the development of this university, our dear country and the international community.

    “Other nominees for the conferment of honorary degree at the forthcoming convocation are Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zach Adedeji and Chairman, Governing Board, Bank of Industry, Dr. Mansur Muhtar, who served as the Minister of Finance under late President Umaru Yar’Adua,” Oluwole said in the letter.

    Bamidele, in a statement by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, on Sunday, thanked the Governing Council and Senate of the Institution for the resolve to confer the honorary doctorate on him.

    He said the conferment of the honorary doctorate is a challenge for the pursuit of greater public good, to which he was utterly committed.

    He, thus, vowed to leverage his good office to promote the rule of law; pursue the enactment of pro-people legislations and lead the path to collective peace and prosperity across the federation.

    Before the latest conferment, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, conferred Doctor of Public Law (Honoris Causa) on Bamidele on February 11, 2024. Also, Joseph Ayo Babalola University honoured him with the Doctor of Public Administration (Honoris Causa) on January 23, 2023.

    Both institutions conferred the honours on the Senate Leader, citing his commitment to the development of progressive legislations and the pursuit of national peace through pro-people legislations.

    EKSU claim bronze at MOB Unity Cup Championship

    The Ekiti State University Football team known as EKSU Galacticos have emerged the third-place winners of the 2025 edition of the MOB Unity Cup Championship.

    EKSU GALACTICOS in the third place match decided at the Christ School playing ground in Ado Ekiti defeated Alara football club.

    The Ekiti State University team opened scoring through a well-connected free kick at the edge of the box which eventually resulted in an own goal in the fifth minute of play. They added the second goal in the 33rd  minute through Adesoji Semilore.

    The second half produced no goal as both teams lost many scoring chances thus leaving the goal line at two nil at the end of the regulation time.

    With the completion of the third place match, the stage is now set for the final match both in the male and female categories.

    Chairman of the  media committee of the championship, Toyin Ayoola, said in a statement the  organising committee will meet soon to fix a date for the grand finale.  The  NYSC Samba Boys of Irepodun/Irepodun Local Government  will face  Delight Football Club of Ado in the  male category while Golden Queens and Ajakaye Memorial Babes of Iyin also from  Irepodun Irepodun/Ifelodun, will trade tackles in the female category.

    This second edition of the championship has been rated as one of the best organized youth soccer tournaments in Ekiti State considering the organization and rewards for outstanding teams and players.

    Winners of this year’s tournament will go home with One Million Naira while the runners up will receive Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira and the third place winners will receive Five Hundred Thousand Naira both in the male and female categories.

    There will also be mouth-watering gifts for outstanding players with goodies for other stakeholders including coaches, referees and outstanding sports writers from the sponsor of the championship, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District.

    Recall that at the end  of the last edition, Senator Bamidele gave scholarship to some coaches in a bid to enhance their professional coaching capacity.

    CFA Society, FMDQNext, EKSU to deepen finance skills

    CFA Society Nigeria, FMDQNext and Ekiti State University (EKSU) have partnered to deepen finance and investment skills as part of long-term commitment to the development of the Nigerian financial markets.

    As part of the programme, some outstanding students of Ekiti State University (EKSU) were exposed to basic investment skills, including live trading on FMDQ  in Lagos.

     The three-day hands-on training, themed : “ Developing the Next  Generation of Finance and Investment Management Leaders “, was initiated as part of CFA Society Nigeria’s university outreach programme aimed at developing future finance and investment management professionals through the establishment and endorsement of investment clubs in Nigerian universities amongst other initiatives. 

     The maiden training, through its immersive learning model, has also strengthened the partnership between CFA  Society Nigeria, FMDQNext and Ekiti State University . The Key topics included:  Overview of the financial sector and FMDQ Group operations and Live Trading Sessions in which  the top three students earned a profit, the highest being over N2 million.

     “ The training is one of the many ways by which CFA Society Nigeria. interfaces with Nigerian Universities through our various outreach programs including the iconic investment club network we are building across Nigerian Universities.

    All these are designed to catch them young, develop and deepen the talent pool in our financial markets and develop them into future leaders in the finance industry”” President , CFA Society Nigeria, Ibukun Oyedeji said.

    Corroborating him, the Executive Director, CFA Society Nigeria, Yemi Ajagun said : “The students were highly engaged and enthusiastic throughout the training. They appreciated the opportunity to learn outside the classroom and were particularly thrilled by the practical aspects of trading. The hands-on competition and overall experience exceeded their expectations.

    “ The positive reception and successful outcomes have proven our concept of exposing students to immersive hands-on and practical training with practitioners as a way of enriching the learning experience of students. FMDQ’s involvement was pivotal in ensuring the students had real-world exposure to finance and trading activities.”

    A cross-section of the students, expressed gratitude to CFA Society Nigeria, FMDQ Next, and the Pro-Chancellor for making the experience possible. They highlighted the transformative nature of the training, stating that it provided them with invaluable insights into the financial world and prayed that the opportunity would be availed to many more students.

    Beyond the financial training, formal students were treated to additional activities such as a dinner,  hosted by the Pro-Chancellor at Lagos Jet Ski and a visit to Ebony Life Cinema, and recreational games.

  • We won’t stop producing quality doctors, says EKSU provost

    THE Medical College of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti has said the institution will not rest on its oars in producing good medical doctors in view of its state-of-the art training facilities and quality manpower.

    The institution recently graduated the first set of medical students after 10 years of study due to delayed accreditation.

    Provost of the college, Prof. Kehinde Oluwadiya, said lack of funding which had been the reason for lack of accreditation for the college in the past, was now a thing of the past.

    Oluwadiya, who spoke in Ado-Ekiti at a news conference heralding the induction of the 43 pioneer doctors produced by the college, assured that there would not be a hitch in accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) again.

    According to him, all the medical students that sat for final MBBS had “very good result as the students had 100 per cent passes and a distinction in surgery in the final examination. Overall, there were seven distinctions recorded by the graduating students in all the four professional examinations they sat for in the college”.

    According to the provost, the college curriculum ensured good quality medical doctors and the admission system is competitive, saying: “For instance, last year, over 700 candidates jostled for the 50 slots in the college.”

    He said Emeritus Professor of Pathology, Professor Williams Odesanmi, would on Monday deliver the induction lecture entitled: “Legal and ethical issues in medical practice” while the induction proper would take place later that day.

  • Ekiti varsity postpones exams over students’ protest

    The Management of Ekiti State University has postponed the first semester examination scheduled to commence on Monday.

    The examination was postponed to July 1st after a protest by students of the institution, who claimed that they were not given enough time to prepare.

    The students, who had earlier held a congress where it resolved to call for an extension of the examination, gathered at the satellite gate of the institution to express their grievances.

    According to them, some students who were supposed to sit for examinations on Monday still sat for test on Sunday evening, saying such was absurd in an academic environment.

    They claimed that the action of the institution was to deliberately lure students to failure, which may force some of them to commit suicide.

    It was gathered the decision was reached after the management had a marathon meeting with the institution’s Student Union Government (SUG).

    According to a statement by institution’s Registrar, Mr Akin Arogundade in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, the new date for the examination was chosen to ensure security of lives and properties on campus and its environs.

    Atogundade said all academic activities on campus have been postponed till Monday 1st July while students are expected back on campus on June 30.

    He added all students preparing for exams should ensure payment of all necessary fees, saying evidence of payment would be used for clearance and examination permit.

  • Sex-for-mark: Ekiti Varsity queries lecturer

    The Management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti has issued a query to one of its lecturers, Dr. O.O Aduwo, who was filmed naked in a 29 seconds trending video footage on social media while allegedly attempting to have carnal knowledge of one of his students.

    The institution in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti by its Head, Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Bode Olofinmuagun, said the query was to give the lecturer fair hearing so as to ensure justice and equity.

    “The attention of the management of Ekiti State University has been drawn to a video that has gone viral on an alleged sex scandal involving one of our lecturers.

    The video allegedly fingered one Dr O. O. Aduwo of the Department of Accounting as the culprit and query has been issued to the accused lecturer, to state his own side of the story.

    This will be followed by a panel which would to dig deep into the matter,” he said.

    According to the trending video, the senior lecturer in the Department of Accounting of the institution was caught on Wednesday by the lady’s boyfriend and his friends who had informed the lady to play along with the lecturer.

    It was learnt they have besieged the residence of the female student following a tip off that Aduwo would be visiting the lady.

    In the video, some people were seen dragging the embattled lecturer out of a room with a plea that they should have mercy on him.

    A senior lecturer at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, has been caught pants down while allegedly attempting to have carnal knowledge of one his students.

    The lecturer identified as Dr. O.O Aduwo was seen nude in a 29-second video clip which has gone viral on social media.

    It was gathered that Aduwo is a lecturer at the department of Accounting of the institution.

    Some female students of the varsity who were believed to have laid siege to the residence of the female student were seen dragging the embattled lecturer out of a room.

    The nation learnt that the lady’s boyfriend and his friends were said to have informed the lady to play along with the lecturer when he made overtures to her in exchange for marks.

    According to the video, an audible voice chatted: “This is a lecturer of EKSU. He wants to have S*x with a student.

    The voice said a lot of unprintable things laying bare the escapades of the lecturer. While making mockery and torturing the lecturer, one of the boys was seen pressing a powered electronic device to on his body to shock.

    Aduwo was screaming and begging the students for mercy but the pleas was rebuffed.

    He was beaten black and blue by the students when trying to resist being pulled out from the room naked.

    Meanwhile, the female student was the one who uploaded the video clip on her Whatsap status, captioning it “I am not sending oh, he wants to f**k fresh pu**y”.

    Speaking with the Nation, some students of the institution who craved anonymity confirmed the identity of the lecturer in the video as a popular person.

    They berated the level at which lecturers in the institution demand for sex in exchange of mark, saying they intimidate students to have sex with them.

    The students said there are several cases of such in the institution but most victims were not bold enough to expose the act.

    When contacted for confirmation, Dr. Aduwo phone was switched as the time of filing the report.

    Meanwhile, the institution’s Public Relation Officer, Mr. Bode Olofinmuagun who confirmed the incident, added that the management will investigate the matter before necessary action would be taken.

     

  • VC, Provost, others indicted for alleged embezzlement in Ekiti

    The visitation panels set up by Governor Kayode Fayemi in his drive to re-position  the State owned institutions and the broadcast service has indicted the management of the institutions for alleged financial infractions.
    The panels which were constituted through executive orders signed by the Governor are for Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti; College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti; and College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero Ekiti.
    Among the infractions committed by the managements, according to the government, were cases of financial recklessness allegedly perpetrated by heads of the institutions and gross abuse of office.
    Briefing newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Saturday after the two days State executive council meeting presided over by Fayemi, the Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, said the council considered the white paper on each of the institutions and took far reaching decisions on them.
    Oyebode said part of the decisions taken was that, the government must set up  functional governing councils in all the institutions to be able to implement panels’ decisions in line with the existing laws.
    The Nation gathered from a source who crave anonymity that those that may be prosecuted by anti graft agencies are: the Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Prof Samuel Oye Bandele, Provost of the College of Education, Prof Mojisola Oyarekua, former Director General of BSES and Fayose’s Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, EKSUTH Chief Medical Director, Dr Kolawole Ogundipe and ex-Provost of College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero Ekiti, Pastor David Ojo.

    He said: “the Ekiti State executive  council during its meeting of of Wednesday and Friday of January 17 and 19 respectively received the white paper on the recommendations of the visitation panels  by each of the institutions in the state and gave approval for their implementations.
    ” Council observed a general trend of leadership and administrative challenges in the institutions.
    “It also observed abuse of office and financial recklessness in some of the institutions  .
    ” It was decided that government would take immediate steps to put in place governing councils in the five institutions that will be saddled with the responsibility of implementing the recommendations contained in the white paper.
    “The state government is committed to ensuring that all institutions in the state are repositioned for excellent service delivery”, he stated.
    However, Oyebode did not delve on details of the recommendations, but it was gathered that many of the affected heads of the institutions would be prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).
    It was also revealed that some will be made to make refunds for alleged misappropriation of funds.
