    Ekundayo named president of corporate secretaries international association

    Governance expert and seasoned corporate executive Funmi Ekundayo has been announced as the new President of the Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA), the foremost body representing governance professionals and corporate secretaries across more than 4 continents.

    The announcement which was made over the weekend on the Association’s offficial website marks a major milestone for Nigeria’s governance community and reinforces Ekundayo’s standing as one of the country’s most accomplished voices in corporate governance, law, and the financial services sector.

    Ekundayo currently serves as Group Managing Director of STL Capital Group, a role in which she has led strategic transformation and strengthened the firm’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading trust and fiduciary services institutions.

    An alumna of the Harvard Business School, Ekundayo holds Bachelor and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Lagos and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), where she serves on the Governing Council. 

    She recently completed her term as President and Chairman of the Governing Council of ICSAN (2023–2025), becoming the first female to hold the position in the Institute’s 57-year history, a tenure remembered for significant institutional reforms, capacity building, and unprecedented visibility.

    With more than 29 years of professional experience, Ekundayo began her career at Bentley, Edu & Co (in association with Irving & Bonnar), spending nearly a decade in legal practice before transitioning into the financial services and capital markets sector. 

    She later held senior roles at Sterling Asset Management & Trustees and United Capital Trustees, before joining STL Trustees where she rose through the ranks to become MD/CEO and later Group Managing Director of STL Capital Group.

    Her professional influence spans multiple sectors and sub sectors. She is a Past President of the Association of Corporate Trustees of Nigeria and previously served as Honorary Treasurer and Vice President of CSIA before assuming its presidency. 

    She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria; Institute of Capital Market Registrars; the Chartered Institute of Directors; the Institute of Investment Advisers and Portfolio Managers; and the Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals. 

    Ekundayo is an Associate of both the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

    In a statement, STL Capital Group said, “We are pleased to share the exciting news that, this afternoon, our MD/CEO was officially announced as the new President of the CSIA. Congratulations are in order as we celebrate this remarkable achievement.”

    Funmi on her part, stated that she looks forward to working with member Institutes across the globe to strengthen corporate governance standards, expand professional capacity-building programmes, and further position CSIA as a global leading voice for governance professionals.

  • Ekundayo to defend IBF European title in Lagos June 30

    Nigeria sensational boxer, Larry Ekundayo will defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Welterweight title at the Boxchamp Fest 2019 on June 30, at Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos, NationSport reports.

    The Boxchamp Fest 2019, a boxing, music and entertainment show, being packaged and promoted by Saleh Gloves Promotion in association with World Class Athletes (WCA) will also see Nigeria and current WBF African Cruiserweight champion, Tony Salam fight for WBO African Cruiserweight title against Bastie Samir of Ghana.

    Also on the fight card for the night are some home grown talents such as Riliwan Lawal and Taiwo Olowu among six other boxers that would be fighting for vacant national titles.

    The CEO, Saleh Gloves Promotions, Saleh Fawaz, who made the announcements in Lagos, said their opponents are been contacted and would be announced to the public when it has been fully arranged.

    “We are happy to announce to the public that Nigeria’s Salam and Ekundayo would be fighting their yet to be announced opponents come June 30 here in Lagos Nigeria. So many boxers within their range are contacted as regards the fight night and as soon as we solidify everything we would also make the general public aware of the developments.

    “It would be a spectacular of events where boxing would be mixed with entertainment and lots of good security and fun for the family to watch and enjoy,’’ Fawaz said.

    CEO of World Class Athletes, Ben Gray, the boxing promoter for Ekundayo said that Nigeria has the capacity to rule the world in boxing.

    He said the future is very bright if people can come together and work as a team for the good of the sport.

    “I am very proud to work with Ekundayo, we have been together since 2012 and been part of his dream which is to be a world champion and I see him reaching that soon,” Gray told NationSport.

    It has been announced by Frank Warren, one of the world’s leading boxing promoters, that elite Nigerian boxer, Larry “The Natural” Ekundayo, will be fighting for the WBO Inter-continental welterweight title at the Copper Box Arena, London on July the 8th.

    The undefeated, former African boxing champion and Prize Fighter winner has been given the opportunity to fight for this prestige’s title as the main support to Billy Joe Saunders, who headlines the show and is defending his world title live on BTSports.

    Larry Ekundayo (12-0) will fight against the highly ranked and much feared Gary Corcoran, (16-1) who has an impressive record and who has recently campaigned at a higher weight division. Should Ekundayo overcome this challenge he will be catapulted high into the WBO world rankings, with a world title shot in sight.

    “The Natural” recently attracted major media attention in Nigeria, and across Africa, as world Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua, recorded a special message requesting that all Nigerians get behind Larry in his forthcoming title fight.

    Speaking from his training base in London U.K, Ekundayo, who proudly wears the green and white of Nigeria into battle, said “I would really likely to thank my management team, MTK, for arranging this title shot and for Frank Warren for giving me an opportunity to showcase my skills in front of a global audience.”

    Ekundayo, represent the country’s best opportunity of delivering sporting success in 2017 for those who wear the Nigerian colours. He is thrilled to have the whole nation behind him, saying “They have recently passed a bill in the Nigerian National Assembly to help support me and help bring big time boxing back to Nigeria, if we as fighters are supported correctly we can rule the world at boxing!”

    Ekundayo, Ajose donate materials to young boxers

    Former Olympian, and World title challenger, Ajose Olusegun, and current undefeated African Champion, Larry Ekundayo on Saturday donated boxing equipments to young and aspiring boxers as part of their efforts at given back to the society.

    The boxers were accompanied by Head of World Class Athletes, Ben Gray and the boxers Special Advisor, Bimbo Folayan, Executive Director of the Nigerian Diaspora Direct Investment Summit and former head of the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK.

    Speaking after a workout session with some of Nigerian boxers, Ekundayo said he feels more fulfilled at engaging in such a project.

    “The ability of these kids are unbelievable and if we can have government and private sector to help like Arik Air, Union Bank and Bullet did with me, if it wasn’t for them I would not be boxing. So we need more of those sponsors in the support of boxing. We need to support our own

    “We came here to give back to the community, I could have represented England but this is my country, this is where I started from. We will try to bring the glory of boxing back and if we have the support of the private sector, that will be great.”

    For Ajose, “this is what I love to do, impacting knowledge to these kids. The presence of myself and Larry Ekundayo here can motivate and inspire them”.

    Bimbo Folayan who has been mobilising the Nigerian community and government to get behind the boxers said the plan is not only to deliver Nigerian World Champions but also positive trade ambassadors for the country, to help improve trade between the UK and the USA, this will be achieved through the international media attention a World Champion attains.

    Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Sports, Adeyinka Adeboye who represented Governor Akinwunmi Ambode assured the team of government support.

    Also present are the President of the Nigeria football and other sports supporters club, Rafiu Ladipo, SSA  Sports Facilities/ General Manager, Sports Facilities in Lagos State, Bolaji Yusuf and the General Secretary of Nigerian Boxing Board of control Remi Aboderin.

    The team will next head to Abuja where they will be presented to the National Assembly on the 15th of March. Whilst also in Abuja they will be appointed as Investment Representatives for the country and will conduct high level meetings on how they, with the support of the Government and leading businesses, can help deliver sporting glory to Nigeria with the specific aim of helping to improve the country’s image overseas through their sporting achievements.

    Finally, they will return to their home town Lagos to meet Lagos State officials and discuss how they can support the state’s aim of becoming a leading destination for sporting events.
