No respite yet for Elizabeth Atuche

While fate is often cruel to man, it sometimes fashions out happy moments. Unfortunately for Elizabeth Atuche, the happy days are few and far between. Since her husband’s travails began some time back, Elizabeth has become the main victim in her own horror movie.

Formerly one of Nigeria’s high flying social birds, Elizabeth has had her wings clipped, at least in the social arena which she used to dominate. Ever since her husband, Francis Atuche, a former MD of the defunct Bank PHB, was fingered in cases believed to have brought the once-flourishing institution to its knees, Elizabeth has been forced to flee her comfort zone and embrace anonymity.

These days, the former mainstay of high octane shindigs is more likely to be found in a church, seeking divine help for an end to her travails. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which has turned her husband to a frequent guest of courtrooms, is however in no mood to relent as it has vowed not to rest until justice is secured.

  • Elizabeth Atuche sings new song

THE songs people sing is usually a reflection of their mood. A burial is the best place for an elegy while an ode is the expected musical accompaniment for a grand achievement. For high-flying bird of high society, Elizabeth Atuche, old things have passed away as the popular former bank manager is now humming a new tune.

The wife of former Bank PHB boss, Francis Atuche, has been running from pillar to post since the EFCC came knocking over issues of financial impropriety levelled against her husband. But, run as she might, the race seems unending with no destination in sight.

Since he was placed under the spotlight, Francis has been a frequent guest in court while Elizaeth has become a frequent guest in the house of God. Like a snake that sheds its old skin, Elizabeth has let go of her former ways and is now a picture of leanness and frugality.

    Elizabeth Atuche in another life

Life means different things to different people. For some, it is one long bed of roses from cradle to grave. They are born, bred and buried with silver spoons in their mouths. For others like Elizabeth Atuche, however, life is a long and hard-fought game of chess. At one point, she was winning handily. But now she appears to be losing, and she is doing all she can to avoid being checkmated.

Ever since she and her husband Francis Atuche became perennial guests of the EFCC over issues concerning  the defunct Bank PHB, Elizabeth Atuche has shed her social skin, choosing to lie low.

Now nowhere to be seen is the formerly elegant figure who bestrode the social scene like a goddess. In her place is a lonely and frugal Elizabeth who now moves from one house of God to another seeking lasting cure for her family’s troubles.

She has become deeply religious, giving herself over to constant fasting and prayer sessions, which, going by recent developments, are yet to bear fruits.

  • Elizabeth Atuche adopts low profile

For some people, good fortune is like a daughter or a sister who answers their every call. For others, it is like the legendary Jamaican sprinter, Usain Boltelusive and uncatchable, no matter how fast or how earnestly one runs after it.

The latter scenario brings to mind the case of Elizabeth Atuche. Since her husband, a former boss of defunct Bank PhB, was arrested for allegedly defrauding the bank, it has been one song of lamentation after another for the former high-flying social bird who now keeps a low profile.

It was gathered that following her husband’s travails, the once bubbly Elizabeth now moves from one house of God to another, hoping for a miracle that would turn the tides of fortune her way again. She has left the social arena behind and turned a new evangelical leaf.

Those who have observed the 50-year old wife of Francis Atuche in recent times now comment on her considerable weight loss, a result, perhaps, of constant vigils and fasting sessions.

However, going by recent developments, Elizabeth is not out of the woods yet and needs to double her spiritual supplications. This is because the Appeal Court recently ordered a retrial of the case against her embattled husband after a lower court had earlier ruled in his favour.

  • Elizabeth Atuche seeking God’s face

THE dark-faced beauty and wife of Francis Atuche, the former helmsman at the defunct bank PHB, Elizabeth Atuche who recently clocked fifty in February has been dancing to one song of misfortune after another ever since the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission bulldozed her husband and herself into court on charges of embezzling funds at the defunct Bank PHB. Since the rain of misfortune first fell on the Atuches, it has refused to let up and since become a torrential downpour, eventually forcing Elizabeth to seek refuge in the house of God. It was gathered that since 2014 she has been a regular visitor in church, no doubt supplicating the almighty to take away their affliction and shame. Her new-found religious devotion has amazed observers However, it seems her sojourn in the house of God is yet to yield the desired dividends as the trial of her husband alongside two other former bank MDs is set to recommence in earnest. Perhaps Elizabeth needs to pray harder.

  • Elizabeth Atuche born again?

There are few things human beings detest as much as sudden change. It leaves the mind befuddled and one’s affairs in disarray. That seems the situation with Elizabeth Atuche, wife of former Managing Director of Defunct Bank PHB Plc, Francis Atuche.

From being one of Nigeria’s high flying social birds, Elizabeth is now battling with the challenges that fate has thrown her way. Elizabeth has suffered some ‘hard times’ over her husband’s travails and has had to abandon her comfort zone in the social arena for a reprieve in the house of God. Today, she is a devout believer and ardent church attendant.

Atuche, hardworking financial expert, has been a regular face in court since his unceremonious exit as a helmsman at the then Bank PHB. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refused to back down on his case and seems bent on seeing his back as he matches to jail. He was one of the bank executives accused of mismanaging customers’ and share-holders’ hard-earned funds on account of which Bank PHB’s operations were taken over by AMCON.

Also feeling the heat as Atuche’s next of kin, Elizabeth has taken their case to God, perhaps for mercy and grace. She has made a sharp U-turn that has seen her drop social adventures for spiritual voyage. She has also cut down considerably on her weight; a new frame observers say might not be unconnected with continual prayer and fasting.

HOW times change. One of Nigeria’s high flying social birds, Elizabeth Atuche, wife of former Managing Director of the defunct Bank PHB Plc, Francis Atuche, has had to abandon her comfort zone in the social arena to seek respite in the house of God after the knocks she suffered with her husband. Today, Elizabeth is a staunch believer and ardent church attendant.

The rumour mill has it that she was forced to seek solace in God because of her husband’s travails. Rather than sit back to enjoy the fruits of his labour for many years as a financial expert, Atuche has been a regular face in court since his inglorious exit as the helmsman at the then Bank PHB. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refused to back down on his case and appears determined to see his back as he matches into jail.

Atuche was one of the bank chief executives who allegedly fleeced customers and shareholders of their hard-earned moneys. Atuche is answering court cases bordering on corrupt enrichment and other unethical practices, which allegedly caused Bank PHB to go down and had to be mopped up by AMCON.

Feeling the heat as the next of kin to the embattled banker, Elizabeth has taken her husband’s case to God, perhaps for mercy and grace. She has made a sharp U-turn that saw her drop her social life to embrace the bible.

She has also cut down considerably on her weight, wearing a new frame some say might not be unconnected with incessant prayer and fasting.
