Musk fails to show up for hearing over his $1 million daily giveaway

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Tesla, X and SpaceX and the world’s richest man, has failed to turn up to a court hearing in Pennsylvania over the legality of his $1m daily giveaway – for the second time.

Since 19 October, registered voters in seven battleground states have been able to go into a draw to win the money if they sign a petition supporting free speech and gun rights.

The state’s district attorney argues that the giveaway is an “illegal lottery”.

Musk did not attend the first hearing last Thursday, and today, his lawyer Chris Gober told reporters outside the court that his client will not be “bullied”.

Biden calls out Musk for ‘illegally working in U.S.’

President Joe Biden slammed Elon Musk for hypocrisy on immigration after a published report that the Tesla CEO once worked illegally in the United States. The South Africa-born Musk denies the allegation.

“That wealthiest man in the world turned out to be an illegal worker here. No, I’m serious. He was supposed to be in school when he came on a student visa. He wasn’t in school. He was violating the law. And he’s talking about all these illegals coming our way?” Biden said while campaigning on Saturday in Pittsburgh at a union hall.

The Washington Post reported that Musk worked illegally in the country while on a student visa. The newspaper, citing company documents, former business associates and court documents, said Musk arrived in Palo Alto, California in 1995 for a graduate program at Stanford University “but never enrolled in courses, working instead on his startup. ”

Musk wrote on X in reply to a video post of Biden’s comments: “I was in fact allowed to work in the US.” Musk added, “The Biden puppet is lying.”

Investors in Musk’s company, Zip2, were concerned about the possibility of their founder being deported, according to the report, and gave him a deadline for obtaining a work visa. The newspaper also cited a 2005 email from Musk to his Tesla co-founders acknowledging that he did not have authorization to be in the U.S. when he started Zip2.

According to the account, that email was submitted as evidence in a now-closed California defamation lawsuit and said that Musk had applied to Stanford so he could stay in the country legally.

Musk is today the world’s richest man. He has committed more than $70 million to help Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and other GOP candidates win on Nov. 5, and is one of the party’s biggest donors this campaign season. He has been headlining events in the White House race’s final stretch, often echoing Trump’s dark rhetoric against immigration.

U.S. agency okays Elon Musk’s brain aid chip for restoring vision

The United States (U.S.) Food and Drug Administration has approved Elon Musk’s brain-chip startup, Neuralink, as a “breakthrough device” designation.

Named as ‘Blindsight,’ the device is designed to restore vision in individuals with complete or partial blindness, including those with non-functional optic nerves.

Neuralink, on its X page on Tuesday, wrote: “We have received Breakthrough Device Designation from the FDA for Blindsight.

“Join us in our quest to bring back sight to those who have lost it. Apply to our Patient Registry and openings on our career page,”

Reports indicated that the FDA awards its breakthrough designation to medical devices that treat or diagnose life-threatening conditions, expediting their development and review.

Musk, while announcing the update, highlighting Blindsight’s potential to restore vision in even the most severe blindness cases on his X social media platform, said: “The Blindsight device from Neuralink will enable even those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see.

“Provided the visual cortex is intact, it will even enable those who have been blind from birth to see for the first time.

“To set expectations correctly, the vision will be at first be low resolution, like Atari graphics, but eventually it has the potential to be better than natural vision and enable you to see in infrared, ultraviolet or even radar wavelengths, like Geordi La Forge.”

The Hearing journal also stated about Neuralink: “The implant is based on a brain-machine interface (BMI) technology, a neural lace technology that acts as a communication bridge between the brain and a wired device. This technology is poised to help those with sensory and motor disorders and other neurological conditions with AI. While research into BMI is still limited, and Neuralink promises to deliver a scalable, high-bandwidth system.

“Neuralink has three necessary components: a link, neural threads, and a charger. The link is a sealed implanted device that stimulates and transmits neural signals. The neural threads are small and flexible threads that contain many biocompatible thin film materials, which have polyamide as a substrate encapsulating a gold thin film trace.”

  • UK slams Elon Musk for ‘civil war’ comments on far-right riots

UK slams Elon Musk for ‘civil war’ comments on far-right riots

The British government has called on Elon Musk to act responsibly after the tech billionaire used his social media platform X to unleash a barrage of posts that officials say risk inflaming the violent unrest gripping the country.

Justice Minister Heidi Alexander made the comments Tuesday morning after Musk posted a comment saying that “Civil war is inevitable” in the U.K. Musk later doubled down, highlighting complaints that the British criminal justice system treats Muslims more leniently than far-right activists and comparing Britain’s crackdown on social media users to the Soviet Union.

“Use of language such as a ‘civil war’ is in no way acceptable,’’ Alexander told Times Radio. “We are seeing police officers being seriously injured, buildings set alight, and so I really do think that everyone who has a platform should be exercising their power responsibly.’’

Britain has been shaken by violence for more than a week, as police clashed with crowds spouting anti-immigrant and Islamophobic slogans in cities and towns from Northern Ireland to the south coast of England. The unrest began after right-wing activists used social media to spread misinformation about a knife attack that killed three girls during a Taylor Swift-themed dance event on July 29.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has described the riots as “far-right thuggery,” said after an emergency meeting with law enforcement officials and government ministers Tuesday that perpetrators will swiftly be punished.

More than 400 people have been arrested due to violence in more than two dozen towns and cities and about 100 have been charged, after Starmer announced plans to ramp up the criminal justice system.

An 18-year-old man who trashed police cars in Bolton, in northern England, on Sunday was believed to be the first person sentenced in the unrest. James Nelson got a two-month prison term Tuesday after pleading guilty in Manchester Magistrates’ Court to criminal damage, police said.

“That should send a very powerful message to anybody involved, either directly or online, that you are likely to be dealt with within a week and that nobody, but nobody, should be involving themselves in this disorder,” Starmer said.

Starmer deflected questions from reporters about Musk, saying his focus was on keeping communities safe.

The government is calling on social media companies, such as Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, to do more to combat the spread of misleading and inflammatory information online.

Alexander said Tuesday that the government would look at strengthening the existing Online Safety Act, which was approved last year and won’t be fully implemented until 2025.

“We’ve been working with the social media companies, and some of the action that they’ve taken already with the automatic removal of some false information is to be welcomed,” Alexander told the BBC. “But there is undoubtedly more that the social media companies could and should be doing.”

That type of rhetoric may be part of what sparked Musk’s attack on the government. Musk has taken a more combative approach to his critics than was the norm in Silicon Valley technology firms, said Alex Krasodomski, who studies the intersection between technology and politics at Chatham House, a London-based think tank.

“He has sparred with U.K. and EU policymakers in the past when they have questioned his approaches to content moderation on the platform,” Krasodomski said.

X didn’t respond to an email seeking comment. It rarely responds to media requests.

Musk just kept wading into the debate about the violence in Britain.

After Starmer posted a comment on X saying that the government “will not tolerate attacks on mosques or on Muslim communities,” Musk responded with the question, “Shouldn’t you be concerned about attacks on (asterisk)all(asterisk) communities?”

Musk attached a similar comment to a video that said it showed a “Muslim patrol” attacking a pub in Birmingham, highlighting the original post for his 193 million followers.

Such comments are vintage Musk, who has a history of making provocative statements, said Stephanie Alice Baker, a sociologist at City University of London who has studied online discourse. Musk frequently comments on geopolitical issues and his fans come to his defense when he is criticized, Baker said.

Earlier this year, he clashed with a Brazilian supreme court justice over free speech, far-right accounts and purported misinformation on X. He also accused Venezuela’s socialist president, Nicolás Maduro, of “major election fraud” after last week’s disputed election.

Those comments are closely watched by a group of people attracted by his success in business, Baker said.

“Musk’s following represents the cult of the entrepreneur …” she said. “By questioning convention, they are depicted as gifted visionaries, who can predict the future and bring it into being. For his fans and followers, Musk’s impulsive comments are perceived as part of his genius.”

  • Six things to know about Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk’s 20-year-old transgender daughter

Six things to know about Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk’s 20-year-old transgender daughter

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, recently shared a personal and controversial experience involving his child’s gender transition.

In an interview with Jordan Peterson, Musk expressed regret and concern over his decision to consent to puberty blockers for his child, Xavier, now known as Vivian Jenna Wilson.

Musk described the experience as “incredibly evil” and claimed he was “tricked” into signing documents for the treatment.

He believes his child was manipulated into believing they were the wrong gender and worries about the long-term effects of the treatment.

Vivian Jenna Wilson, born Xavier Alexander Musk, is a 20-year-old transgender daughter of Elon Musk.

She was born in 2004 in California as a twin with her brother Griffin.

Vivian attended Crossroads K-12 School in Santa Monica, with annual tuition costs up to $50,000.

She tried to hide her true gender identity from her father for several years and officially adopted her mother’s maiden name at 18.

Vivian filed a petition to change her name and gender just three days after her 18th birthday, citing she “no longer wishes to be related” to her father “in any way”.

She has a strained relationship with her father, who disagrees with her political views, claiming she believes all rich people are evil.

“My son is dead” – Elon Musk opens up on struggle with child’s gender transition

CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk has shared a deeply personal experience involving his child’s gender transition, revealing that he felt “tricked” into consenting to puberty blockers.

In a candid interview with psychologist Jordan Peterson, Musk expressed his concerns about the treatment’s long-term effects and the motivations behind its recommendation.

He described the experience as “incredibly evil” and claimed that he “lost” his son, Xavier, now known as Vivian Jenna Wilson, to the “woke mind virus.”

Musk stated: “It’s evil. You’re taking kids who are far below the age of consent.

“It’s very possible for adults to manipulate children who are having an actual identity crisis into believing that they are the wrong gender.”

Musk disclosed: “Well, it happened to one of my older boys. I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys, Xavier. This was really before I had any understanding of what was going on, and we had COVID going on, so there was a lot of confusion. And I was told Xavier might commit suicide.”

Peterson, challenging the notion, said: “That was a lie right from the outset. No reliable clinician ever believed that.

“There was never any evidence for that, and also, if there is a higher suicide rate, the reason is the underlying depression and anxiety and not because of the gender dysphoria. And every good clinician knows that, too, and they’re too cowardly to come out and say it.”

Musk added: “It’s incredibly evil. And I agree with you that the people that are promoting this should go to prison.

“I was tricked into doing this. It wasn’t explained to me that puberty blockers are actually just sterilization drugs.

“I lost my son, essentially. They call it ‘deadnaming’ for a reason. The reason they call it ‘deadnaming’ is because your son is dead, so my son, Xavier, is dead, killed by ‘the woke mind’ virus.”

“So I vowed to destroy ‘the woke mind’ virus after that. And we’re making some progress.”

This revelation comes as Musk announced plans to relocate his company’s headquarters from California to Texas, citing the state’s new legislation on gender identity and parental rights as the final straw.

“This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas,” Musk wrote on X.

Daily Mail reports that Vivian Musk, formerly known as Xavier, publicly announced her transgender identity in June 2022, at the age of 18.

At the same time, she petitioned to legally change her name to Vivian and adopt her mother’s surname.

“I no longer want to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form,” Vivian said.

Australia drops court case against ‘X’ over church stabbing videos

Australia’s internet watchdog has dropped a court case against Elon Musk’s social media platform ‘X’, eSafety commissioner Julie Inman-Grant said on Wednesday.

Australia wanted to force ‘X’ to remove footage of a Sydney church stabbing from the platform.

‘X’ blocked the posts in Australia pending a legal challenge, before the Federal Court ordered the platform to temporarily hide the video for all users globally.

Inman-Grant said in a statement a Federal Court case had now been abandoned.

“Our sole goal and focus in issuing our removal notice was to prevent this extremely violent footage from going viral, potentially inciting further violence and inflicting more harm on the Australian community.

“I stand by my investigators and the decisions eSafety made.

“Most Australians accept this kind of graphic material should not be on broadcast television, which begs an obvious question.

“The question of why it should be allowed to be distributed freely and accessible online 24/7 to anyone, including children,’’ she said.

The case was seen as a test of Australia’s ability to have social media platforms comply with the country’s laws.

ESafety remained committed to holding companies to account without fear or favour, ensuring they complied with the laws of Australia and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all Australians, Inman-Grant said.

“We will not waver from this commitment.’’

A 16-year-old boy was charged with a terrorism offence after two people were injured in the alleged stabbing at the “Christ The Good Shepherd Church’’ in western Sydney on April 15.

The church attack came days after six people were killed and dozens injured in a stabbing at a Sydney shopping centre.

“This would significantly improve Disney’s share price. While I don’t own any Disney shares today, I would definitely buy their shares if Nelson were elected to the board. His track record is excellent.”
