  • Stop blackmailing Emerhor, Adjogbe –Urhobo group warns

The Bayelsa State Government has called on security agencies and other authorities to give more protection for journalists across the country. The government also appealed to journalists in the state to continue to work for the peace, stability  and progress of the state through fair and balanced reportage of activities.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson made the call in a statement to mark the 2019 World Press Freedom Day. He described practicing journalists in the state as critical partners in the development of Bayelsa, especially under the present Restoration Government of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson.  According to him, it is in recognition of their role and importance that the government since inception has supported them to effectively carry out their duties and operate without hindrance.

The Urhobo Nationalist Movement, yesterday warned the people involved in blackmailing Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and Engr. Samuel Adjogbe, the Executive Director Projects, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to desist from it. The group gave the warning in a statement by Alhaji Mumakai-Unagha and Henry Akpoveta, Chairman and Secretary of the group respectively. In the statement  made available to the Nation. the group said it had become obvious that some professional blackmailers were sponsoring some agents to rubbish the hard earned reputation of Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and Engr. Samuel Adjogbe.

They said the duo are illustrious Urhobo sons who are patriotic Urhobo to the core and Delta State in general and are committed to see to the opening up of the area.  According to the statement: “We wish to state here that the Urhobo can go to war because of their patriotism so as to defend them. “At this moment, the Urhobos seem to have no direction, we must appreciate one another, queue behind them to move the Urhobo nation forward. “It is regrettable that infighting and pull-down syndrome amongst the Urhobo is not the political solution.

At this moment of our time, we should learn from our past mistakes, take a deep breath on how to redeem the battered image that has brought the Urhobo down.” The group advised the Urhobos to tinker their focus towards what their future should be and how to achieve it, and not to rubbish one another, adding that both O’tega Emerhor and Engr. Samuel Adjogbe are gift to the Urhobo nation from God.  “What the entire Niger Delta region did not achieve since the inception of the Niger Delta Development Commission, the present c ommission has done wonderfully beyond human expectation and imagination.

  • Abe, Emerhor, Ogboru others hail victory

Senator Magnus Abe (Rivers South East) has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

A statement by Abe’s spokesman, Parry Benson, congratulated Buhari and Nigerians who helped make history.

The Senator urged the government to punish those found guilty of electoral offences no matter how highly placed. He condemned the violence in Rivers State and other parts of the country.

Abe said though the elections were far from being perfect, it, however, satisfied the yearnings and aspirations of the majority of Nigerians.

The statement reads: “Though the elections were in no way perfect, but nobody can dispute the fact that it has answered the yearnings of majority of Nigerians. It is a clear expression of the wish of the Nigerian people for continuity and progress.

“We, therefore, call on Atiku Abubakar and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to accept the people’s verdict and extend their hand of fellowship to the President-elect so that we can work together.”

Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, has congratulated President Buhari for his re-election.

Emerhor, in a statement yesterday in Warri, also thanked Nigerians for trusting the president enough to give him another chance at serving the country.

According to the chieftain, Nigerians should be assured that President Buhari would continue to deliver on his promises to them.

Emerhor, who praised his followers, especially the over 4,000 Buhari canvassers and their coordinators, said he contributed to delivering more than the required 25 per cent to the party.

He said: “I write on behalf of the Mainstream APC in Delta State, to greet president-elect, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his landslide victory in the February 23 elections.

“We have no doubt that your victory was well-deserved in view of your visible achievements in your first four years. I also thank Nigerians for voting to move the country forward, and giving our President four more years to consolidate on the foundational achievements of his first four years…”

The Delta State governorship candidate of the APC, Great Ovedje Ogboru, described President Buhari’s victory as a testimony of his good works in the last four years.

Ogboru said the victory is an indication of the confidence Nigerians have in Buhari despite the attacks and criticisms on him.

The candidate also hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting credible elections, saying the victory has revealed how much Nigerians love Buhari.

He said: “From the onset, I knew Buhari was going to win because he has done a lot for Nigerians, and I was optimistic that he would be rewarded with votes. This has shown that good work deserves appreciation, and Nigerians exhibited that last Saturday.”

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide also hailed the victory.

A statement by the spokesman, Daniel Dasimaka, described President Buhari’s victory as a testament of the level of acceptance he enjoyed in the country.

He, however, urged the President to reward the efforts and support he received from the Niger Delta by developing the region in his second term.

Prior to the election, IYC endorsed Buhari and gave reasons why the region should vote for him.

Dasimaka said beyond the endorsement, like minds in IYC worked to garner votes for the President following their conviction that he meant well for the region.

He said: “We congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari and urge him to treat his victory as a victory for all Nigerians, and see the country, including regions and state where he did not win, as his constituency.

“We urge the President to utilise and build on the support he and his party received from the Niger Delta by developing the region and Ijaw land…”

  • Emerhor: I’m vying for Delta Central senatorial seat

The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, has affirmed his intention to vie for the state’s Central Senatorial ticket.

Emerhor, who addressed a huge crowd that received him back to Delta State on his return from Abuja, after the submission of his Nomination and Expression of Interest forms, assured the people that APC would win next year’s governorship election and give President Muhammadu Buhari one of his highest votes.

According to him, after consulting his family, political associates and friends, he saw reasons with the elders and leaders of Urhobo in APC, who had persuaded him to vie for the senatorial seat.

Emerhor said the Urhobo deserve quality representation at the national level, adding that the image of the ethnic nationality was critical to him and those who urged him to contest.

Last week, the Forum of Urhobo Elders and Leaders purchased the Nomination and Expression of Interest forms and approached the 2015 governorship candidate of the APC in his country home at Evwreni, Ughelli North Local Government Area, to contest the only Urhobo Senate seat and salvage the image of the ethnic nationality.

Addressing the crowd, which followed him from Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area, to his home in Evwreni, Emerhor said: “Let me now report that I have consented to represent the Urhobo nation after due consultation with my family and political advisers. The forms have been duly submitted in Abuja. With your support and by the power of God, we will go into the direct primary the party has adopted for Delta State.

“From the beginning, when we pioneered the APC in Delta State, we have been receiving people into the party. APC is on a mission to rescue Delta State. We must make sure that the representation of Delta Central is one that will stand by President Buhari, a cool-headed, calculating and diplomatic representation; a representation that can get things done for the Urhobo nation…”

  • Ogboru will sit with me if he truly wants Delta APC to win in 2019 – Emerhor

The leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor has said, if Chief Great Ogboru, an APC governorship aspirant in the State wants the party to win in the coming election, he has no choice but to sit down with him and others to iron out their differences.

Emerhor, while reacting to a statement credited to Chief Ogboru, which was published in one of the national dailies, noted that it is shocking that a governorship aspirant who, purports to want to win election, is not desirous of ensuring that peace returns to the party in the state.

Ogboru, while justifying why Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, himself and their group shunned the reconciliatory meeting called by the Minister for State, Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, said that it was “illogical for him to sit down with those that embarrassed the party by attacking delegates at the national convention”,  demanding further that Emerhor and others should be sanctioned.

But in a swift reaction, the APC leader said “I am shocked that someone who wants to run for governorship and who purports to want APC to win, will express such unhelpful sentiments”.

Emerhor added that though there may be issues between the mainstream of the APC and the group led by Ogboru/Agege in Delta APC, it is clear that these issues arose from the different interests of aspirants like Chief Ogboru, who are trying to position themselves ahead of 2019.

“Ogboru in particular has decided to sponsor a faction from the day of his entrance into the party that has refused to integrates itself into the mainstream.

“In truth, it was Ogboru/Agege that should be held responsible for the fight and disruption at the convention because it was Senator Omo-Agege that in defiance of the erstwhile NWC of the party, replaced the approved/authentic Delta delegates with unknown persons and unleashed the attacks on the authentic delegates when they eventually arrived to take their place at the Delta pavilion at the convention”, he said.

He then stressed that it was ridiculous for Ogboru to call for him (Emerhor) to be sanctioned when in fact, “it was Senator Omo-Agege who as secretary to the convention accreditation committee abused his position and substituted the Delta state delegates with unknown persons.”

Emerhor stated further that, “it is unthinkable that Chief Ogboru instead of thinking of unity, is at this time still preaching a continuation of disunity and playing the blame card.

“The party must move beyond fights and crisis and that is why I have decided along with other mainstream leaders of the party to support the reconciliatory move by Dr Ibe Kachikwu who has taken it upon himself to ensure that peace returns to the party.

“Our resolved to win 2019 governorship election in Delta state is bigger than any individual’s interest, and that is why I will work the party’s NWC, the Minister and other leaders of the party to ensure that we are stronger to win the 2019 election.

Emerhor therefore advised Ogboru to key into the process of reconciliation if he truly wants the party to win the 2019 elections in Delta State.

  • Stop smearing our names, Emerhor, Adjogbe tell APC defector

Stop smearing our names, Emerhor, Adjogbe tell APC defector

The Executive Director of Projects at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Samuel Adjogbe, has said recent remarks about himself and the leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, by a former party member, Jesutega Onokpasa, is an attention-getting attempt to smear their names.

Onokpasa, who recently defected from APC to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said Emerhor and Adjogbe allegedly monopolised the activities and dividends of the party.

The former APC member said he could no longer stay in the same party with the duo.

But Adjogbe, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media, Ogheneovo Itefue, said the former party member was ungrateful, adding that the service he rendered APC during the 2015 election was fully paid for.

He also described as highly misleading Onokpasa’s claim that he was treated with “extreme disrespect and unpardonable wickedness”, despite what he claimed to have “done for the party”.

Adjogbe said: “Onokpasa, as a writer cum lawyer, was engaged and fully paid for every article he wrote for the benefit of the party. So, for him to say he helped the party is very untrue. How can he say he helped the party when he was fully paid? One would have expected the firebrand lawyer to understand the simple terms of a contractual relationship to which he was a party.

“Furthermore, ask Onokpasa about the Toyota Corolla car he was given in December 2017. He refused to mention that fact in his fallacious media report. Also, it smirks of utter mediocrity for Onokpasa to also fail to include in his report all the enormous foodstuffs and money he received from the party during the festive season.”

The politician also queried why the attention of those seeking to get one benefit or the other in Delta State APC was focused on the office of the EDP, which has over 10 APC appointees.

The NDDC director said while everyone has the right to belong to any party of his/her choice, “I make bold to state that no single person has a monopoly of the media and the use of derogatory words”.

  • 262 benefit from Emerhor’s N13.1m empowerment

Two hundred and sixty-two persons, including women and youths, yesterday partook in an empowerment programme sponsored by leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor.

The event marked the end of a four-day 60th birthday celebration in his Evwreni home in Ughelli North.

Another party stalwart and former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, gave N1 million to 20 widows.

Emerhor said he considered it meaningful to identify with Nigerians under stress, saying the people have not been empowered since the PDP took over power in 1999.

He urged beneficiaries to invest the seed-fund, saying they will be monitored on how they use it.

Emerhor promised there will be future endowment for those who prove to be resourceful with the fund.

“The government has a responsibility to provide for the citizens so that there is a minimum standard of living for the people. But unfortunately, since 1999 when the PDP came to power, we have not been able to attain that level of empowerment.

“This is one of the primary reasons we are fighting to take over the government because we are people-oriented. The APC must stand to ensure that good governance is enthroned in Delta State.”

Ochei, who lauded Emerhor’s benevolence, said: “We cannot describe what the state government is doing as empowerment because that is our commonwealth. But we must laud Emerhor’s efforts because what he is doing today is from his personal pocket for the benefit of his people.”

  • Emerhor marks diamond jubilee with medical outreach

Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, will organise a medical outreach and other charity activities to mark his 60th birthday.

A statement yesterday by his media aide, Aghogho Orotomah, said the celebration will run from Thursday till Sunday, at his country home in Ewreni, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

According to the statement, the business tycoon chose to give back to the society by providing free health services, empowerment and entertainment to his people.

The statement reads: “Olorogun Emerhor is, however, celebrating this Diamond Jubilee by giving back to the community through a medical outreach, charity football match, cultural dance competition and an empowerment programme.

“These events will start on Thursday and end on Sunday at his Evwreni country home.

“On Saturday, the actual birthday, Emerhor will host cultural dances and shows, and an open house where family, friends, party faithful and well wishers are expected through an open invitation.”

  • Kachikwu, Emerhor lead Delta APC factions to close ranks

In a bid to put its house in order ahead for the next general election, the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved its leadership crisis.

The party, at a special meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Petroleum Affairs, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, and co-chaired by the 2015 governorship candidate of the party, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, in Onicha-Ugbo, resolved, among other things, that all litigation should be discontinued.

According to a statement issued by the party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Leonard Obibi, it was agreed that the National Working Committee (NWC) should conduct an election to reflect for all interests in the party.

The statement reads: “The meetings deliberated on terminating all current disputes within the party in order to introduce a new lease of life that would propel the party into a more united and stronger political family. The entire leadership has thus resolved among other things as follows:

    “All interest groups or individuals are to within 90 days withdraw all legal cases from court effective the date of this meeting;

    “To request the National Working Committee (NWC) to take necessary steps, after the withdrawal of all court cases, to conduct a repeat congress for the election of an all-encompassing State Exco which tenure will expire at the same time as the current Exco in April 2018. It was also unanimously agreed that there shall be no interim Caretaker Committee for the party, and that the repeat Congress shall be open to all party members, both old and new, to ensure comprehensive and all-inclusive participation;

“The Delta State APC family has undertaken to start working together in unison and will continue to make whatever sacrifice is necessary for sustaining the peace and progress of our party.

“There was also a general consensus that the party will make a public apology to any leaders who have a case of libel in court as a result of previous publications of the party; and that those members of the State Exco on suspension for various infractions be forgiven and recalled through the proper channels of authority within the party.”

Some party leaders at the peace meeting were Sir Olisaemeka Akamukali (member, Board of Trustees), Chief Adolo Okotie-Eboh, Chief Great Ogboru (represented by Evang. Ossai Abeh) and Hon. Victor Ochei.

Others were Chief Hyacinth Enuha (represented by Dennis Nwanokwai) and Dr Alex Ideh, both of whom were of the late Senator Francis Okpozo’s Elders and Leaders Group.

Present also were Chief Frank Kokori, Chief Ayiri Emami and the full complement of the State Working Committee (SWC), led by the State Chairman of the party, Prophet Jones Ode Erue.

Prior to the Onicha-Ugbo meeting, a peace parley was held in Abuja, which was attended by party leaders, including Prof. Patrick Utomi, Chief Great Ogboru and Chief Hyacinth Enuha.

  • Emerhor: 2017 for hope fulfilment, economic growth

Emerhor: 2017 for hope fulfilment, economic growth

•Delta APC leader’s unity with Ogboru a treasure, says  Kokori

elta State Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olorogun Otega Emerhor, has expressed grateful to God for what he called His favours in 2016 for the party, Nigerians and the life of individual Delta residents.
The frontline politician hoped that 2017 will be a year of renewal and growth.
Emerhor’s New Year message, which was released by the Director of Strategic Political Communication of Rescue Delta Media Group (RDMG) of Delta APC, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, said the APC Board of Trustees (BoT) member was confident that the new year would usher in the fulfilment of the hopes of the residents and clear the nation’s path for economic renewal and growth.
Emerhor said: “I write to congratulate all Nigerians and, in particular Deltans, as we come into Year 2017. We must first give all the glory to Almighty God who continues to keep us safe and well in a most difficult period in our country.
“Year 2017, however, promises to be a year of hope, renewal and growth. The APC-led Federal Government has spent the last 20 months to lay a strong foundation for the future economic and social political emancipation of our country. In spite of the subsisting hardship pervading the land, 2017 will see these efforts bear visible fruits.
“The APC government remains the true hope of renewing our country for growth and development and I encourage Nigerians to sustain their support for APC and President Muhammadu Buhari.
“In Delta State, the future direction could not be clearer. The 17 years of Peoples Democratic Pary’s (PDP’s) misrule, corruption, degradation and exploitation without any visible signs of development continued unabated. This is why Deltans are clearly rooting for the rescue of the state by the APC in 2019. The progressives’ political broom swept the state in 2016 with the coming together of all the opposition political heavyweights as well as those in the PDP and other parties, into the APC.
“The APC has struggled in 2016 to harness all the strengths it has gathered, but 2017 is the year of to be or not to be. 2017 is the year we must put our house in order and grow our strength. In late December 2016, we, unfortunately, lost a key voice, leader, elder and stakeholder in this effort: Senator Francis Spanner Okpozo. While we mourn him, we must honour him by securing the unity that will enable us to achieve the dream of a liberated Delta State, that he longed to see.
“I, therefore, would like to use this opportunity of a new message to call on all contending interests in our party to put the general interest above any other. I, personally, will do so, and will put every effort to see that all our forces are united and all interest and tendencies are accommodated in our APC house. This is why I termed 2017, a year of Renewal, Hope and Growth (RHG).
“I pray that we all join hands in this effort, leaders and followers, all, to bring Delta State back into the mainstream of the Nigerian politics as we all support President Buhari to elevate the economic and social political conditions of all Nigerians.”
Also, the Delta Central Leader of APC and BoT member, Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, described 2016 as a Golden Year for the progressives in Delta APC.
In his New Year message, he noted that this happened because of the coming together of two essential political leaders: Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru.
The elder statesman added: “I am the happiest man living on the surface of the Earth today. The reason is that Ogboru and Emerhor are two positive forces that, hitherto in 2015, went their separate ways after a robust political relationship in the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP). That singular decision worked against the progressives and we could not achieve much.
“In 2016, barely a year after the elections, God intervened and the duo got united. This, to me, is one of the landmark achievements of our great party and we shall consolidate and maximise the gains. This is why irrespective of membership of any faction in our party at the state level, we must, as a necessity, come together to rescue Delta State from the political shenanigans of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) corrupt leaders.
“From 1999 till date, PDP and its rogue leaders impoverished the good people of Delta State. We must, therefore, put away petty squabbles, unnecessary jealousy, envy and queue behind our State Party Leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and the state party executives under the able chairmanship of Prophet Jones Erue to bring good governance and quality dividends of democracy to our people.
“I am pleased with the strategic moves by President Muhammadu Buhari in the fight against corruption as well as the APC national government’s patriotic efforts in building a solid and prosperous future for Nigeria and Nigerians. Our economic pains of today will sure manifest in quantifiable economic boom in the near future and beyond.
“We have made significant and enviable progress in Delta APC, especially in 2016, when lots of other political heavyweights, like Hon Victor Ochei, Chief Ominimini, Z. A. Aginnighan, Hope Abijor and many others with their huge supporters joined our party in the three senatorial districts. We give God the glory.
“I wish to salute the uncommon humility, sound and very healthy leadership disposition of our great and amiable leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, who in the face of trials, provocation and unnecessary confrontations held his cool, remained calm and calculated. He also moved our party from obscurity in Delta State to a political mega force ready to take over the state.”
“I am particularly happy that our able chief publicist and my good political son, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, is back in the saddle, reconciled to his boss, Emerhor. It is a thing of joy and I look forward to quality service from the Pen Eagle as we take bold steps to take over the affairs of Delta State from our common enemy, the PDP.
“I wish Nigerians and Deltans a prosperous Year 2017.”

  • Emerhor predicts landslide victory for apc, Godwin Obaseki

Emerhor predicts landslide victory for apc, Godwin Obaseki

A Delta state All Progressives Congress  Leader, Olorogun Otega Emerhor has described governor Adams Oshiomole as a proactive leader and astute politician who over the years exhibited uncommon pedigree in governance.

He said the massive infrastructural development and socioeconomic advancement in the state is the reason  why the good people of Edo State assured the APC of their massive votes for Godwin Obaseki and the party come September 10 the, this year.

The APC chieftain and Vice Chairman of Standard Group asserted that Godwin Obaseki parades intimidating credentials and excellent wealth of experience as board room expert and economist who over the years gain national and global recognition in his professional career.

Emerhor opined that Edo is strategic to Delta State politically which is why all hands are now on deck between the two states party structures to work together extensively towards the consolidation of APC stronghold in Edo and strategic alliances for APC to take over Delta State in 2019.

He further disclosed that party members registration will commence next week in Delta State to enlarge the political family in preparation for the final collapse of PDP in the state, come 2019.

The campaign flag off venue was on Saturday overflow of heavyweight politicians from across the country.

Victory he said is sure for APC and Godwin Obaseki come September 2016.
