  • Daura Emirate turbans Orji Kalu, ‘Danbaiwan-Hausa’

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq, has conferred the traditional title of ‘’Danbaiwan-Hausa’’ on the former governor of Abia, Orji Kalu in recognition of his efforts toward the development of Abia and Nigeria at large.

    Faruq stated this on Wednesday in his palace in Daura, when he conferred the title on the former governor.

    The monarch, who described Kalu as peace promoter, noted that the title has made him the representative of the Hausa in the entire Ibo land in the country.

    ‘’We appreciate your contributions to the business sector in Nigeria and your efforts in peace building for the good of community.

    ‘’We also appreciate the love you have for our son; I urge you to continue your campaigns for President Muhammadu Buhari,’’ he said.

    The Emir said that throughout the Hausa land, it is only the Daura Emirate that can confer that title to anybody, which means a ‘’Gifted son of Hausa Kingdom.’’

    Responding, Kalu commended the Emir for the title, and assured the monarch that he would continue to do more for the development and unity of the country.

    In his goodwill message at the occasion, the Minister for Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, described Kalu as a bridge-builder, who has consistently endeared himself into the hearts of the people and supporters of Mr President.

    ‘’For somebody, who has taken such initiatives, I think he deserved supports and collaborations.

    ‘’What has happened today will encourage him to do more toward Nigeria’s unity and integration,’’ he said.

    Kalu after the turban proceeded to the residence of President Muhammadu Buhari where he held a closed-door meeting with the President.(NAN)

  • Buhari marks Eid -El-Adha with prayers, 800 metres walk

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday joined the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk and other Muslim faithful, to observe the Eid prayers at Kofar Arewa Eid Ground, Daura, Katsina State.

    Buhari, according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu, had the honour of performing the symbolic slaughtering of the ram at the Eid ground, signifying total obedience to the will of Allah as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.

    After the prayers, the President shunned protocol and opted to trek some 800 metres, acknowledging cheers from Nigerians who had trooped out en masse to attend the Eid prayers and also catch a glimpse of Mr President in his hometown.

    Speaking to reporters at his residence after the walk, the President said he didn’t expect anything less from his ‘immediate constituency’ even as he thanked the almighty God for a bumper harvest and Nigeria’s steady progress towards food sufficiency.

    ‘‘I am very happy about it (the warm reception) and I do not expect anything less from my immediate base.’’ he said

    The President who wished all Nigerians a happy and successful Sallah celebrations, expressed delight that the country was spending less on food imports, noting that it was a major boost to the agricultural policies of his administration.

    At a separate event, the President received members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) currently serving in Daura community- an audience that has become part of his schedules during the Sallah celebrations in the past years.

    Reaffirming his support to the scheme established in 1973, the President told the corps members: ‘‘It is better to know all the country than for people to be state-inclined.

    ‘‘I always look forward to meeting the NYSC team because since I served mostly in the south when I was in the military, some people in Lagos the only thing they know is the sea.

    ‘‘For them (NYSC members) to be brought to the desert or near the Sahel region is a very difficult thing but it will make an impact on Nigeria.

    ‘‘I have personally spoken to Gen. Gowon to thank him for having the initiative to start the NYSC programme. It is very good for Nigeria,’’ he said.

    The President formally welcomed the Corps members to the ancient town of Daura and asked them to enjoy their national service year.

    In his remarks, the Corps Liaison Officer, Jibrin Ishak, thanked the President for prioritizing the welfare and a secured future of the Nigerian Youths through his style of leadership and developmental initiatives.

    ‘‘The voice of the people is the voice of God and by the grace of God, we pray that in 2019 you will continue to be President of Nigeria to do more for us,’’ Ishak said.

    The representative of the Corps members prayed God to sustain the President with good health, long life and prosperity.

    In his usual tradition, the President, in the spirit of the season, donated a bull, 10 bags of rice and half-a-million Naira to the Corps Members.

  • Emir of Daura to honour Kalu with title

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq (CON), will honour former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu with a traditional chieftaincy title.

    This was stated in an August 8 letter addressed to Kalu.

    This is coming few months after Kalu embarked on peace tours of the Southwest in April and Northwest in June.

    On June 15, Kalu visited Katsina State where he was received by the Emir.

    The letter reads: “I have the pleasure to write and inform you about the conferment of the traditional title of Dan Baiwan Hausa on you, in appreciation of your support to our son, President Muhammadu Buhari.

    “Your achievements in youth development are laudable and appreciable, apart from your contributions to the development of Abia State and the country.”

    Kalu’s media aide, in a telephone concersation, said: “Yes, I can confirm that Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu will be conferred with the traditional title. This is a great news, not just for him, but for all Nigerians. Apart his efforts in promoting the good works of the President and his re-election, it is also in recognition of his selfless strides in preaching peace and unity, the need for peaceful coexistence in the country, regardless of tribe or religious affiliation. Not also forgetting his philanthropic and empowerment programmes.

    “This shows that we can truly live as one despite our tribal or religious differences. The date for the turbaning ceremony will be revealed soonest on an agreed date.”

  • …Emir of Daura: no mortal power can stop President’s re-election

    The Emir of Daura,Katsina State, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, declared yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari looks unstoppable in his re-election bid next year, as  no mortal power can constitute any obstacle in his quest.

    “No mortal power will prevent Buhari’s re-election. He has five  more years to go from date,” Umar said while receiving a former governor of Abia State , Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu in his palace.

    “At the end of his second term tenure ,Nigerians will even crave for his third term, because of what he might have achieved, God will shame any one against Buhari’s re-election,’’ he added.

    The Emir warned those he said were out to  frustrate Buhari’s re-election bid, and said  God will shame them

    Kalu had earlier told the emir that some  people are bent on frustrating Buhari’s re-election bid, but that their effort would not come to fruition.

    He said a prominent figure from the southern part of the country was among those spearheading the issue, but that Buhari’s noble cause would prevail at end of the day.

    He said the President had “performed excellently in various sectors especially in addressing the problem of corruption” which had given the county a bad name for many years.

    The former governor was in the state as part of sensitization for the actualization of another term for the president, an effort he was making through the National Movement for the Re-election of Buhari. 

    Kalu also visited  Governor Aminu Bello Masari, and the Emir  of Katsina ,Abdulmumini Kabir Usman to promote the president’s re-election bid.

    Kalu said Buhari deserves another term in office in view of the people-oriented programs carried out in the country, even as he condemned those unduly criticizing him over his ambition.

    He said “Buhari deserves re-election not criticism to enable him complete the good work he has begun for the country.”

    He added that come 2019 general election; there was no amount of intimidation, blackmail or attacks that could stop the president from seeking another term in office.

    Also speaking, governor Aminu Bello Masari called on Buhari not to be bothered by criticisms, but give attention to his good work for Nigeria.

    Masari described Buhari’s critics as enemies of democracy, with call on Nigerians to come out enmass next year and vote for Buhari, to enable him consolidate on his achievements.

  • Buhari Leaves Daura for Abuja after APC congress

    President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday departed Daura in Katsina State for Abuja after participating in Saturday’s APC ward congress.

    The News men reports, the President voted at his Sarkin Yara `A’ ward, Daura.

    The news men reports that the president’s helicopter, marked NAF-540, took off from the Daura helipad at 9:25 am for Abuja.

    The president was seen off at the departure point by the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk, top party officials and several well-wishers.

    Unconfirmed sources however, the news men that president Buhari, was expected to make a stop-over in Katsina to commiserate with the family of the late Chief Imam of Katsina, Malam Muhammad Lawal, who died on Sunday at the age of 95.

    Daura Emirate Council to hold special payers for Buhari

    Daura Emirate Council in Katsina State, on Saturday said it would hold special prayers to thank God for the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from his medical vacation in London.

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji  Umar Farouk, said in his palace that the special prayers was to also to seek God’s grace for the well being of the nation.

    Farouk pledged that the emirate council would continue to support the Buhari led administration in its crusade against corruption, efforts at enhancing national security and its promotion agriculture in the country.

    He expressed confidence that the President would salvage the country and put it on the path of growth and development to effectively compete with advanced nations of the world.

    Meanwhile, a unionist, Comrade Ibrahim Killi, has attributed the recovery and safe return of the President to the tremendous goodwill and prayers of well meaning patriotic Nigerians.

    He expressed the belief that Buhari would aggressively pursue his agenda of reforming the country.

    Killi advised Buhari to focus on the provision of infrastructure, rehabilitation of roads, refineries and improving power supply as well as human development.

    Another resident, Alhaji Sani Zimbo, commended Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo for his loyalty and commitment to the unity of the country. “We salute his courage and administrative acumen,’’ he added.
