The newly appointed commissioner of police to Kano state, Salman Garba, on Wednesday, June 26, said he was in Kano not to serve a particular interest, but to continue his service to Nigerians and the country.
Garba was responding to questions on how impartial he would handle the emirate tussle involving Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Bayero.
It was gathered that Garba and Aminu Bayero are blood-related, as he hails from Ilorin, Kwara state, where Bayero’s mother comes from.
But the new commissioner, who briefed journalists at the police headquarters, Bompai, said he was hearing that for the first time, insisting that he is in Kano to serve everyone, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
“First and foremost, I am a Nigerian, and I am here to serve Nigerians. The news of me belonging to the same family as Bayero is new to me; this is the first time I have heard it. For me, I will do my best for Kano,” he stated.
He assured the public of his commitment to ensuring effective security measures in the state, acknowledging “the outstanding achievements” of his predecessor, AIG Ussain Gumel.
“I have already obtained briefs from my predecessor as well as the Command’s Department Heads on the Security situation of the State.

“The security of life and property is our primary concern, and we will work according to the provision of the law,” he assured.
Garba said: “Kano State Police Command under my supervision, will be committed to creating a safe and more secure environment where residents can thrive, businesses flourish and visitors feel welcome to the State.
“To achieve this, we have mapped out strategies to ensure a peaceful Kano State through robust community policing engagements, and synergy with other security agencies and community stakeholders.
“Use of technology in investigations and operations, professionalism and accountability, strategic communication in public enlightenment and sensitisation.”
