Emirates celebrates 859,000 flights with Boeing 777

Emirates, the world’s largest operator of the U.S. Boeing 777, has celebrated the fleet completion of 859,000 flights.

Emirates pilots globally have  logged over 4,720,000 flight hours since the delivery of its  first Boeing 777  in 1996.

Last week, the airline and Boeing marked the 150th Emirates 777 delivery milestone, with a triple delivery of two Boeing 777-300ERs and one Boeing 777 Freighter.

Emirates has an order book of 196 Boeing 777s valued at $93 billion at list prices.

“Emirates’ approach to global air travel has created substantial additional demand for U.S.-made aircraft and engines, and benefited millions of travellers,” said its President, Sir Tim Clark.

“The Boeing 777 makes up the majority of our fleet, and gives us the range and flexibility to provide non-stop services to almost any city within a 16-hour flying range of our hub in Dubai. Our orders for these efficient jets have come on the back of our steady growth in the U.S. and globally. We are proud to connect U.S. cities to tourism and trade opportunities in destinations across Asia, Africa and the Middle East which were previously underserved by direct air transport links.

“It’s clearly a win-win situation when our investments in U.S.-made technology together with our global operations help to support U.S. jobs and strengthen American prosperity,” he added.

  • Emirates, SAT sign agreement

Emirates, a global connector of people and places, and South African Tourism, the marketing agency for South Africa, have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) that will open the way for the development of joint marketing initiatives aimed at growing the number of visitors from the Middle East to South Africa.

The MoA was signed by Thulani Nzima, South African Tourism Chief Executive Officer, and Orhan Abbas, Emirates Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations for Latin America, Southern and Central Africa; on the sidelines of the Arabian Travel Market 2015, currently being held in Dubai. The South African Minister of Tourism, Mr Derek Hanekom, who is attending the travel market, was also present at the signing ceremony.

The agreement extends until 31 May 2016 and provides a framework under which Emirates and South African Tourism will work together and explore various marketing initiatives aimed at promoting South Africa in various regions in the Middle East which will be identified by the two parties.

“In Emirates, we have found a like-minded partner with the willingness to work together in growing the number of visitors to South Africa. We are excited to jointly discover and access markets in regions that have massive untapped potential.

“It is our mission to find and implement the best strategies to market South Africa and position it as the preferred travel destination. We are, therefore, delighted to collaborate with partners who can assist us in accessing new markets and spreading our footprint,” said Mr Nzima.

“South Africa is a very important market for Emirates. We fly to three destinations in the country – Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban – bringing in both leisure and business visitors from across our network, which currently extends to more than 140 destinations around the world.

“ This agreement underpins our commitment to support South African Tourism, which also benefits us as an airline with multiple points and frequencies into the country,” said Mr Abbas.

The agreement will see marketing activities such as attendance of tourism trade shows and fairs, trade familiarisation trips, product presentations and workshops, amongst others, be undertaken to achieve the parties’ objectives.

Emirates, with its hub in Dubai, has a fleet of more than 230 aircraft and flies to more than 140 destinations across six continents. The airline flies four times daily to Johannesburg, twice daily to Cape Town and once daily to Durban.

Emirates doubles capacity to tourism hotspot Seychelles

Emirates is set to increase its capacity to the popular Indian Ocean Island of Seychelles, when it switches from the current Airbus 330-200 used on one of the two daily services to a larger Boeing 777-300ER from June 1.

The introduction of the Emirates Boeing 777-300ER, which operates as flight EK705 from Dubai and as EK706 on the return flight, will increase overall capacity on the route by 1,722 seats per week and will make the route an all-Boeing 777 operation.

56-57 Tourism 18-04-2015.“The Seychelles is a very popular leisure destination, and we have experienced consistent growth on the route since we started operations to the island on January 1, 2005 with three weekly flights using an Airbus A330-200.

“Since then, we have had to gradually increase our frequencies and deploy larger aircraft to meet growing demand, and now ten years later, starting from June 1, we will have two Boeing 777s on the route,”said Laurie Berryman, Vice President, UK & Ireland at Emirates.

“The island draws a lot of leisure travellers from across our network, with many coming from the Middle East, Europe and Russia. In 2014, Emirates carried well in excess of 200, 000 customers to and from the Seychelles,” he added.

The Boeing 777-300ER will have a three- class configuration, with eight First Class Private Suites, 42 lie flat seats in Business Class and 310 spacious seats in Economy Class.

Customers on Emirates flights enjoy the famed hospitality of its multi-national cabin crew, including nationals of the Seychelles, and gourmet cuisine.

“The announcement by Emirates that they will be introducing a second Boeing 777 on the Seychelles route is indeed good news for the tourism industry of our islands.

“This announcement also guarantees our visitors that they can now enjoy the Dubai – Seychelles service with three classes on both Emirates flights every day.

“We take this opportunity to thank Emirates for their continued support and for believing in the tourism industry of Seychelles,”said Alain St. Ange, Minister of Tourism and Culture of the Seychelles.

  • Emirates Group honours top employees

Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, Ahmed Bin Saeed Al- Maktoum has honoured 51 employees for their commitment to excellence, exceptional levels of dedication and exemplary performance and service to the company’s customers.

Ten individual and team achievements were acknowledged during the ceremony with three of these stemming from outstanding levels of teamwork.

Hundreds of colleagues, families and friends of this year’s winners gathered at the annual ceremony at Emirates’ Group Headquarters, as Sheikh Ahmed presented them with the Najm Chairman’s Award trophy and a monetary gift.

Addressing the audience, Sheikh Ahmed said: “I know that many of you have been eagerly waiting for this day. The Najm Chairman’s Awards is the highlight of the Emirates Group calendar, as we celebrate your most amazing achievements.”

The annual Najm  Chairman’s Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of Emirates staff around the world. Hundreds of Emirates Group employees are nominated for the coveted award and after a rigorous selection process the winning candidates are named.

He continued: “We saw major growth in 2014 across the business. We won many industry awards. And we welcomed over 9,500 new colleagues into the Emirates Group family. These success stories created headlines around the world. But today’s achievements come from people who have worked quietly behind the scenes.  They have shown commitment, courage and the will to succeed. It gives me great pleasure to award them in the presence of their family, friends and all of you here today.”

This year, the Najm Chairman’s Award winners stories ranged from saving lives to forfeiting personal time to help passengers in distress,  working in challenging and dangerous environments, to professionalism in highly pressurised and difficult situations.

Najm Chairman’s award winner  Hanane Senhaji literally went the extra mile when she travelled a staggering 1,053 extra miles to help a customer complete her Hajj journey. When an elderly lady from the Philippines was travelling to Jeddah to start her Hajj pilgrimage, she fell ill on board and had to stay in Dubai. When the woman’s health improved, she wanted to complete her pilgrimage but was not allowed to travel alone. Hanan travelled with the woman to Jeddah, so that this elderly customer could be reunited with her son and complete her pilgrimage.

Villajos Gary Almoite and Herald Mendoza Mateo, both coordinators for dnata in Singapore, saved the day when an incoming aircraft missed its assigned spot due to low visibility. Gary jumped from the belt loader in front of the aircraft and crossed his hands to indicate that the aircraft had  to stop. Herald worked in tandem to raise the air-bridge to stop an imminent collision with the aircraft which was too close. Their swift actions and quick decision making helped ensure the safety of customers.

The Group continues to develop and expand its employee base. Last year, the Emirates Group strengthened its total workforce country.

  • Emirates seeks new opportunities in Nigerian market

Regional Manager of Emirates Airline, West Africa Mr. Manoj Nair has said that the airline is seeking new opportunities in the Nigerian market, which he described as huge for the carrier.

He said the airline is working hard to expand its operations in Nigeria, which would be carried out if serious market studies have been carried out.

Speaking in an interview, he said Emirates would not extend further flights beyond Lagos and Abuja to Dubai for now until market demands require that it increases capacity to other cities.

He debunked rumours that Emirates is seeking traffic rights into Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt .

Such information, he said, has been making the rounds for some years.

He spoke of plans by the airline to offer competitive fares for Nigerian passengers, even as he said Emirates is not worried over the entrance of competitors on the route.

He affirmed that more airlines on the route is a better deal for Nigerian passengers in terms of air  travel services .

The Emirates manager said the airline will continue to deploy big aircraft on the Nigerian route to cater for the comfort of passengers.

He said  Emirates airline has a lot of packages for its teeming  consumers which is classified into various leisure and business trips.

He added that to facilitate the seamless travel experience of Emirates passengers across the world, the airline has decided to use it’s best aircraft like the Airbus A380’s and Boeing 777 with adequate facilities onboard to ease and bring comfort to the passengers.

Meanwhile, over 200,000 passengers have used Emirates’ free onboard Wi-Fi since October this year, taking advantage of the airline’s service to connect with family, friends or colleagues when they fly.

On most Emirates A380s, passengers can access 10MBs of free data, and send emails, blog, tweet, post on Facebook, or browse the Internet.

Emirates currently offers Wi-Fi connectivity on 86 aircraft – on board all of its 56 Airbus A380s, as well as on 30 of its Boeing 777s.

A comprehensive retrofit programme is also underway to install Wi-Fi capability across the rest of its fleet.

  • Emirates receives B777-300ER

    Emirates receives B777-300ER

EMIRATES  has taken delivery of the airline’s 100th Boeing 777-300ER, the world’s largest, long-range twin engine commercial aircraft.

The Boeing 777-300ER forms the backbone of the Emirates fleet with the aircraft type currently operating to 77 destinations on the airline’s global network.

Delivery of Emirates’ first Boeing 777-300ER, took place in March 2005 and with a further 52 aircraft on order, the airline has become  the world’s largest operator of this aircraft type – in fact one in every five 777-300ERs flying today is in Emirates’ livery.

It takes 47 days to build a 777-300ER and each aircraft is made of three million parts. If you took all of the wiring contained within Emirates’ 100 777-300ERs and place it-end-to-end, it would stretch from Dubai to New York and back again, Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline said.

“The Boeing 777-300ER is one of the most remarkable aircraft ever built, and its combination of efficiency, range and payload is second to none. Our customers are equally excited by the aircraft and its on-board product, and to date, over 108 million passengers have flown on an Emirates Boeing 777-300ER.

“We have 204 more Boeing 777s on order, which supports over 400,000 jobs in the US, including those from various suppliers, such as General Electric which provides the GE90 engines that power all of our 777-300ERs,” added Sir Tim.

“We are proud of our long-term relationship with Emirates and for the confidence they have in Boeing’s products and services beginning with the 777 and continuing with the 777X in the years to come,” said Ray Conner, President/CEO, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

  • EMIRATES CLASH: Bruce to assess Aluko for fitness

EMIRATES CLASH: Bruce to assess Aluko for fitness

Super Eagles ace Sam Aluko will be properly assessed for fitness ahead of Hull City’s away clash against Arsenal.  Hull City coach

Steve Bruce, who gave  the hint, said players returning to international duties will not be thrown into the Emirates clash unless the medical team confirms they are fit enough to play for 90 minutes.

Sone Aluko and teammate Mohamed Diame endured long flights to link up with Senegal and Nigeria respectively and Bruce hinted that the players would be left out if they show signs of fatigue as a result of jet lag and hard fought victory against their opponents in the AFCON qualifiers.

“We’ll have to look at Diame and Aluko because they only played on Wednesday night.

“No matter who you are, if you’re hanging around airports, going on long-haul flights, playing games – you’re going to be fatigued.

“It isn’t fair on the players. We’ve got four or five who have been flying through the time zones, so we’ll have a look at them and see how bright they are,” he said

While Aluko had a good ride as the Super Eagles achieved a 3-1 victory over Sudan, same cannot be said of teammate Mohamed Diame as the Teranga Lions were beaten 1-0 by Tunisia.  Aluko came in as a second half substitute in Nigeria’s tie against Sudan on Wednesday at the Abuja National Stadium.  The 3-1 victory did not, however, stop the Glass House from showing Keshi the exit door.

Bruce would be hoping to earn a point at the Emirates coming after his side’s 2-0 home victory over Crystal Palace.   The victory against Palace remains the side’s only victory in five premiership matches including a 4-2 defeat at home by Manchester United

“The upgrade of our Abuja service to a Boeing 777 demonstrates our commitment to the Nigerian market and another step to ensure we offer world class products to our customers in Nigeria.
