  • Car dealer bolts with N995,000

    A 48-year-old, Ishola Dickson, on Wednesday appeared in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun charged with N995,000 fraud.

    Dickson is facing a two-count charge of stealing and fraud to which he pleaded not guilty.

    The accused, according to Police Prosecutor Emmanuel Abdullahi, committed the offences sometime in October 2014 at Omisore junction, Ile-Ife.

    Abdullahi said the accused obtained N995,000 from the complainant, Johnson Friday, on the pretext of helping him to buy a Toyota Picnic car.

    The accused did not buy the car and appropriated the money, he said.

    The offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

    The Defence Counsel, Mr Samuel Obi, applied for the bail of the accused, promising that his client would not jump bail.

    Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Owolawi said sureties must swear to affidavit of means and also reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

    Hearing in the case has been fixed for February 2.

  • Court grants teenager N500,000 bail over theft, malicious damage

    An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Friday granted bail in the sum of N500,000 to a teenager (name withheld) charged with breaking into a carpenter’s workshop to steal some items.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Adejumoke Ademola-Olowolagba, also ordered that the 14-year-old should produce two sureties in like sum, also as a condition for the bail.

    Ademola-Olowolagba directed that the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be civil servants of grade level 08 and above.

    The teenager is standing trial on a five-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, break-in, malicious damage and possessing goods without receipt.

    He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

    According to the prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, the teenager stole one Qlink stabiliser, a Top Bond glue, a pair of school sandals and upholstery leather.

    He said that the accused was also found with one Panasonic television without a purchasing receipt.

    Abdullahi submitted that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 29, at 12:30a.m. at the Taxi Driver Area of Modakeke-Ife.

    The alleged offences contravene Sections 383, 390 (9), 430 and 508 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2003.

    The case has been adjourned until December 17 for mention.

  • Two men in court for stealing goats

    Two men in court for stealing goats

    Two men – Olaide Adebori, 45, and Sunday Omisakin, 42, were on Tuesday arraigned in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, in Osun, for allegedly stealing a she-goat and its kids.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 1, 2017, around 12:00 noon at Olurin Street, Ile-Ife.

    He said that the accused persons were in possession of the she-goat and its kids, reasonably suspected to have been stolen.

    The prosecutor also said that the accused persons conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breached of peace.

    According to him, the offence was contrary to and punishable under Sections 249 (d), 383, 430 and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The two defendants denied committing the offence.

    The defence Counsel, Mr Samuel Judge, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms.

    Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    Ijiyode said that the surety, who must swear to affidavit of means, should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

    The case was adjourned until June 28, for hearing.

  • Man arraigned for stealing truck

    An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Tuesday remanded in prison 45-year-old Sunday Fagbemi , who allegedly stole a truck worth N12 million pending when his bail application would be considered.

    The accused is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, theft and damage to property.

    Police Prosecutor Emmanuel Abdullahi told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 9 at Trailer Park, Ondo Road, Ile-Ife.

    Abdullahi said the accused conspired with others to steal the trailer with registration no. LSD 794 NX valued at N12 million, property of Global Concept Nigeria Ltd.

    According to him, the accused also stole a trailer tyre valued at N150, 000 and also damaged the ignition.

    The offences contravened Sections 383, 390 (9), 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun 2003.

    The Magistrate, Mr. Olalekan Ijiyode, said the accused should be remanded in Ile-Ife Prison until June 21 for ruling on the bail application.
