    1,250 get empowerment skills in Lagos

    One thousand, two hundred and fifty women have graduated from five skill centres in Lagos State.

    This brings the total, since 2019, to 15,195. The four-week training ran in five centres.

    Beneficiaries learnt tie & dye, catering and confectionery, gele tying and make-up application, hair stying and wig making, fabrics stoning and embellishments, soap production and pomade/healthy insecticide production, hair cut and more.

    Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Cecilia Dada, said the programme is to  on ‘uplift the indigent, vulnerable and displaced persons, as well as people with disabilities…’

    She said the aim is also to provide individuals with skills to improve livelihoods, break from poverty, and contribute to society.

    “We believe skills’ training are essential for building human capacity. Thus, through strategic programmes, we equip individuals with skills at our centres.

    “The training is free. By this, we ensure financial constraints is not a barrier..

    “It will also interest you to know our efforts are not limited to our residents. We have extended support to displaced persons from Congo and Sierra Leone in the state.

    “The social inclusion in the THEMES plus agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has afforded these recipients opportunities of training and empowerment. By this, we are assisting their economic reintegration, and contributing to growth of West African region.”

    Chair of Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, Rasheedat Adu, haild the state, urging trainees to ‘unlearn vices which can ruin society, and learn to be useful and inspire others…’
