    CIBN to induct 1034 new members

    The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) will induct 1034 new members in Lagos on Aug. 26.

    The institute said the new members would consist of 234 newly qualified associates.

    Others are: “42 Chartered Bankers in Masters Business Administration (CBMBA), 689 Microfinance Certified of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (MCIBs) and 69 Banking Certificate graduates.’’

    CIBN said in a statement in Lagos on Monday that the granduands would be inducted at its 2017 Graduates Induction and Prize Awards Day.

    The institute said that a lecture to prepare the minds of the new members for the challenges ahead and particularly to acquaint them with survival tactics in any economic difficulty would be held as part of the ceremony.

    It said that the lecture with the title “Entrepreneurship Mindset: Critical success Factor for the 21st Century Professional” would be delivered by Mr Olabode Agusto, the Founder of Agusto and Co.

    The institute said the ceremony would be attended by members of the banking community and representatives of corporate organisations.

    It said that the Special Guest of Honour would be Mrs Eniola Fadayomi, a Fellow of Institute of Directors (FIoD) and Chairman of African Prudential.

    Nigeria, Chief (Mrs.) Eniola Fadayomi, has reiterated the vision of IoD to institutionalise the tenets of sound corporate governance and best practices in the country’s business environment.

    She stated this at the “New Members Evening and Induction” ceremony into the IoD in Lagos.

    Mrs. Fadayomi said IoD, which is a league of directors and business leaders, has maintained cordial relationship with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and companies in both the public and private sectors of the economy.

    She disclosed that the institute, in a bid to increase its national and international visibility, has joined the African Corporate Governance Network (ACGN) in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Also, through the IoD Centre for Corporate Governance, it has partnered with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to establish a Register for Independent Corporate Governance Network.

    IoD Nigeria, she added, has established a Register for Independent Directors in Nigeria that would serve as a pool from which organisations and agencies in need of high level directors could assess.

    It has together with the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) collaborated to train directors of companies listed on the exchange.

    About 110 new members were inducted at the event.

    ‘Involve private sector in Transformation Agenda’

    The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoS), Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji, has urged the private sector to be more involved in the implementation of the Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government.

    He said this when a delegation of the Executive Council of the Institute of Directors (IoD), led by its President and Chairman of Council, Chief Eniola Fadayomi, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

    Aji explained that the aim of the Transformation Agenda, is to change the economy into one that is private sector driven, create wealth and employment opportunities for the youth.

    He said the civil service is willing to cooperate with well-meaning organisations, such as the IoD, particularly in capacity development and integrity building.

    He told the delegation that his office has initiated a public-private sector staff exchange programme aimed at experience sharing and the building of mutual understanding between the two sectors.

    Mrs Fadayomi said the mission of the organisation was the entrenchment of good corporate governance in work places through training.

    She also said the international affiliations of the institute, particularly in Africa, which has opened up new vistas for members.

    She called for the enrolment of senior officers in the Federal Civil Service, as members of the institute, to improve the relationship between the public and private sectors.

  • SA Life MD is IoD Fellows

    The Institute of Directors (IoD), Nigeria has elevated the Managing Director, SA Life Assurance Ltd, Mr Austin Enajemo Isire, along with nine others, to its Fellows grade at its Fellows’ Evening in Lagos.

    The institute’s President, Chief Eniola Fadayomi, said: “Yearly, the institute confers the status on deserving members who have served in varying capacities while making notable contribution to the business community.”

    She said financial members with a minimum of 10 years unblemished character of directorship experience who have sustained their IoD membership for not less than five years are upgraded yearly to the fellowship of the institute, adding that Isire and his fellow recipients have been found worthy by the institute.

    Isire, who is the Vice Chairman of the institute’s Banking and Financial Services Committee and Member, Finance and General Purpose Committee, has been an active member of the institute and has used his position to assist it.

    Isire was appointed Managing Director/CEO of SA Life in March, 2002.
